If you do not need those Critterpedia entries, remove the turnip instead. Unsold turnips rot every coming Sunday, according to Nintendo.
Use spoiled turnips to catch ants and flies
A spoiled turnip left on the ground can attract both ants and flies. Ants and flies are separate Critterpedia targets, so this can help if you still need either one. The game references identify the turnip as a possible attractant; they do not promise that a bug will appear immediately.
- Place one spoiled turnip on the ground somewhere you can check easily.
- Look for ants on or near it, and watch for flies flying nearby.
- When a bug appears, equip your net and catch it.
- Pick up the turnip when you are finished if you do not want it left on your island.
Nookipedia’s item entry classifies spoiled turnips as trash and notes that they attract ants and flies when left on the ground. Nintendo Life’s fly guide also identifies spoiled turnips as fly bait.
Remove them if you do not need the bugs
If you have already caught the bugs you want, pick up the spoiled turnips and clear them from the island. The item’s documented use is attracting ants and flies; the cited references do not establish another useful action for it.

When turnips spoil
Nintendo’s beginner guide says: “However, any unsold turnips turn rotten every coming Sunday, so you can’t hold on to them indefinitely.” Treat the coming Sunday as the practical spoilage cutoff. Nintendo Life describes spoiled turnips as turnips over one week old, but Nintendo’s Sunday guidance is the clearest stated timing rule.
