Several dungeons in retail World of Warcraft drop mounts, but the mount does not always come from the boss in the way players expect. Some are rare boss loot tied to a specific difficulty, some come from the end-of-run Challenger’s Cache in Mythic+, some are rewards for hitting a season rating threshold, and one is bought from a vendor with dungeon loot. Notable examples across expansions include Stratholme’s Deathcharger’s Reins, Sethekk Halls’ Reins of the Raven Lord, Magisters’ Terrace’s Lucent Hawkstrider in Midnight, and Windrunner Spire’s Spectral Hawkstrider in Midnight. The list below covers the best-documented examples as of October 2026. It is a set of notable examples, not a complete catalog of every dungeon mount ever available.
The four ways a dungeon mount reaches you
Before comparing dungeons, sort each mount by the route it uses, because the route determines what you have to do and whether the reward can be farmed repeatedly.
- Direct boss drop. The mount is a loot item from a named boss. These are usually tied to a specific difficulty, and several are Mythic-only.
- Mythic+ Challenger’s Cache. The end-of-run chest in Mythic+ can carry a chance at a mount. The chance is separate from any boss drop in that dungeon.
- Seasonal rating achievement. Keystone Master and Keystone Legend achievements unlock season-specific mounts at Mythic+ rating thresholds. These are not boss drops and they rotate with the season.
- Vendor exchange. A vendor sells a mount in exchange for items that drop in dungeons. The mount itself does not drop from a boss.
Older dungeon mounts
These mounts come from earlier dungeons. They are listed in Wowhead’s all-time completionist mount guide, which is the main source for this section. Because the guide is a comprehensive list of older sources, treat it as a starting point and confirm in-game that each dungeon and difficulty still offers the drop.
| Dungeon | Mount | Boss or condition | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stratholme | Deathcharger’s Reins | Lord Aurius Rivendare | Legacy dungeon drop. |
| Sethekk Halls | Reins of the Raven Lord | Anzu | Legacy dungeon drop. |
| Magisters’ Terrace (legacy) | Swift White Hawkstrider | Kael’thas Sunstrider | This is the legacy dungeon. It is a different dungeon from the Midnight Magisters’ Terrace listed below, with different mounts. |
| The Culling of Stratholme | Reins of the Bronze Drake | Infinite Corruptor | Timed dungeon encounter source. |
| Utgarde Pinnacle | Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake | Skadi the Ruthless | Legacy dungeon drop. |
| The Stonecore | Reins of the Vitreous Stone Drake | Slabhide | Legacy dungeon drop. |
| The Vortex Pinnacle | Reins of the Drake of the North Wind | Altairus | Legacy dungeon drop. |
| Zul’Gurub | Armored Razzashi Raptor; Swift Zulian Panther | Bloodlord Mandokir; High Priestess Kilnara | Two mounts from two different bosses in the same dungeon. |
| Timewalking dungeons | Reins of the Infinite Timereaver | Various | The guide groups this under Timewalking dungeon drops rather than a single boss. |
| Return to Karazhan | Midnight’s Eternal Reins; Smoldering Ember Wyrm | Attumen the Huntsman; Nightbane | Listed as two dungeon mount sources. |
Expansion-specific dungeon sources
The newer sources below come from expansion-specific guides. The difficulty column matters here: several of these mounts drop only on Mythic, and the guides do not show a Normal or Heroic drop for them.

| Dungeon or source | Mount or reward | Boss or condition | Route and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Underrot (Battle for Azeroth) | Underrot Crawg Harness | Unbound Abomination | Mythic boss drop. Mythic+ Challenger’s Cache also has a chance at it. |
| Dragonflight dungeons | Ivory Trader’s Ottuk | Vendor: Tattukiaka | Vendor exchange. You trade three dungeon-drop rings, including Thunderous Downburst Ring from The Raging Tempest and Unstable Arcane Loop from The Azure Vault. See the vendor section below. |
| The Stonevault (The War Within) | Stonevault Mechsuit | Void Speaker Eirich, Mythic | The boss drops a Malfunctioning Mechsuit item that starts a short questline. The guide summary does not spell out the questline steps, so check the in-game quest text on your run. |
| The Darkness (The War Within) | Wick’s Lead | The Darkness, Mythic | Mythic dungeon drop. |
| Magisters’ Terrace (Midnight) | Lucent Hawkstrider | Degentrius, Mythic | Mythic boss drop. Mythic+ Challenger’s Cache also has a chance at it. |
| Windrunner Spire (Midnight) | Spectral Hawkstrider | Restless Heart, Mythic | Mythic boss drop. Mythic+ Challenger’s Cache also has a chance at it. |
| Altar of Fangs (Midnight patch 12.1) | Swarming Spawnling | Zul’jan | Reported in the Midnight patch 12.1 guide. The difficulty and current availability were not confirmed in the source material, so check the boss in the Encounter Journal before planning a farm. |
Seasonal rating mounts
Seasonal mounts are not boss drops. They come from Keystone Master and Keystone Legend achievements, which require Mythic+ rating thresholds during a given season. A mount tied to one season can stop being obtainable when that season ends, so do not treat these as permanent farms.
- Dragonflight Mythic+ Season 1: Hailstorm Armoredon, from the Dragonflight Keystone Master: Season One achievement.
- The War Within seasons: Diamond Mechsuit and other seasonal reward mounts from keystone season achievements. Confirm whether the specific season’s reward is still obtainable.
- Midnight Season 1: Calamitous Carrion (Keystone Master, 2,000 rating) and Convalescent Carrion (Keystone Legend, 3,000 rating). Wowhead’s Midnight Season 1 mount guide, checked in October 2026, gives these thresholds.
- Midnight Season 2: Breath of Blight (Keystone Master, 2,000 rating) and Blight of Ruin (Keystone Legend, 3,000 rating). Wowhead’s Midnight Season 2 overview, crawled the week of 2026-10-08, gives these thresholds.
The Ivory Trader’s Ottuk exchange
The Ivory Trader’s Ottuk is the main example of a dungeon-linked mount that is not a drop at all. You trade three dungeon-drop rings to the vendor Tattukiaka to receive it. Because it is an exchange, the effort is collecting the rings rather than attempting a single boss. The guide does not give drop rates for the rings, so plan your runs around the items you need rather than an expected time.

How to check a dungeon before you farm it
- Open the Encounter Journal and select the dungeon. Check the boss loot tab for the difficulty you plan to run, because Mythic-only mounts do not appear on Normal or Heroic loot lists.
- Open the Achievements window and search for the season’s Keystone Master or Keystone Legend achievement. Confirm the season is still active before counting on its mount.
- Open the Collections journal and check the Mounts tab to see whether you already own the mount. Some seasonal mounts show as unavailable after their season closes.
- For Mythic+ caches, look for the mount among the cache’s reward options at the end of the run. The chance is a random roll, and the guides do not state a drop rate.
What this list does not establish
This list covers notable examples from the sources reviewed, not a verified inventory of every mount a dungeon has ever offered. The older-dungeon section relies on a single comprehensive guide, and the newer entries come from expansion guides, so a few older or regional-only sources may be missing. Drop rates are not published for any of these mounts in the sources reviewed, so there is no basis for ranking one dungeon above another by expected farming time. Patch notes and season rotations change these sources, so confirm current availability in game before you commit time.
Blizzard’s official patch notes are the authoritative reference for season transitions and reward changes. The mount-by-mount details above come from Wowhead’s guides, which are cited by name, not by link.
