World of Warcraft: Forever is simplifying PvP progression, but it is not removing the weekly routine. Blizzard’s announced system separates Honor from Rank Points, limits Rank Point progress each week, and adds seasonal weekly tasks. Three tasks per season award a Legacy Point, and Blizzard says Legacy-related tasks remain available in future seasons.
How does WoW: Forever PvP progression work?
Blizzard describes the redesign as a simplification of the original Honor System that aims to keep it “Approachable and Familiar.” The system has two distinct progression elements: Honor, which functions as a currency earned through PvP participation, and Rank Points, which advance rank progression through specified activities. Blizzard says battlegrounds and certain quests award Rank Points, and that it aims to make Honor acquisition more consistent.
Those are design goals and rules in Blizzard’s announcement, not reported test results. The announcement does not establish actual reward rates or show how quickly different players will progress.
What does the weekly cap mean?
Rank Point progress is capped each week. That puts a limit on how much rank advancement players can make during a given week, even though the system also adds more ways to earn progression. Blizzard has not stated the cap amount in the cited announcement text, so there is no supported number to use for planning.

The practical trade-off is between more consistent Honor acquisition and a fixed weekly pace for ranks. The tasks add another route to Honor and Rank Points, but do not remove the weekly Rank Point limit.
What are the weekly tasks?
Each season includes a journey with weekly tasks. Completing tasks awards Honor and Rank Points, according to Blizzard. The official announcement does not specify the total number of tasks in a week, their exact objectives, or the reward amount for each one.

Three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. That is a stated system rule, not a statistic about player participation. Blizzard says these Legacy-connected tasks remain available in future seasons, so missing a particular week does not necessarily close off the associated Legacy goal.
Why are players calling the weekly system controversial?
GamesRadar+ framed the weekly tasks as a controversial grind and quoted a few anonymous commenters objecting to recurring checklists. One comment said, “Please don’t do the weeklies thing”; others described “weekly checkboxes” they felt they had to complete and the prospect of farming every week.

These are examples published by GamesRadar+, not a representative poll or a measure of how most players feel. The concern they illustrate is that optional-looking tasks can feel obligatory when they award progression. Whether the tasks feel like helpful extra routes or another weekly chore will depend on their objectives and rewards, details not established in the announcement.
Does missing a week put Legacy progress out of reach?
Not necessarily. Blizzard says Legacy-related tasks persist into future seasons, giving players a later opportunity to complete them. That persistence can soften the cost of missing a particular week, although it does not establish that every other reward or rank opportunity is similarly carried forward.

For players assessing the design, the key distinction is between the weekly Rank Point cap and persistent Legacy tasks: rank advancement remains paced weekly, while the Legacy-related tasks are described as available beyond their original season.

Blizzard’s announcement says the goal is to simplify the original system while retaining its roots, and that the seasonal journey offers more ways to make progress each week. Those statements describe the intended design; they do not independently demonstrate that the system will feel more accessible or less grind-heavy in play.
