Update Roblox Studio from inside the app
- Open Roblox Studio—not the Roblox Player app.
- Save your current place. Publish it as well if you want the latest changes stored online.
- Look in the upper-right corner of Studio for Update.
- Click Update and confirm that you are ready to save or close the open place.
- Wait while Studio closes, installs the update, and restarts.
- Sign in again if Studio asks you to.
Roblox provides the in-app update control when Studio detects that the installed version is outdated. Keeping Studio current provides access to the latest supported APIs and features. The exact button label or placement may change in a future release; Roblox’s current setup documentation identifies the control as Update in the upper-right.
How to update Studio manually
If Studio opens but the update control is missing, manually running the official installer is the best next step. This effectively reinstalls the current Studio files over the existing installation, so you normally do not need to uninstall first.
Windows
- Save and close every Studio window.
- Open the official Roblox Studio setup page.
- Select Download Studio.
- Open the downloaded
RobloxStudio.exe. - Follow the installer prompts, then launch Studio and sign in.
Mac
- Save your place and quit Studio completely.
- Download Studio from Roblox’s official Creator Hub setup page.
- Open the downloaded
RobloxStudio.dmg. - Follow the installation instructions and launch Studio.
- Restart the Mac if Studio still will not open or the update does not complete.
Do not download a third-party “Roblox Studio updater.” Studio is free, and an unofficial updater can bundle unwanted software or provide outdated files.

If the Update button is missing or does nothing
The absence of an Update button does not by itself prove that Studio is current. Work through these steps from least disruptive to most disruptive:
- Save and close your place. Do not force-close Studio while important work is unsaved.
- Quit every Studio window. A second window or background process can prevent the updater from starting.
- Restart the computer. This clears stuck Roblox processes and can release files locked by the installer.
- Open Studio again. Check the upper-right corner for the update control.
- Run the official installer manually. Use
RobloxStudio.exeon Windows orRobloxStudio.dmgon Mac. - Check compatibility. Confirm that the operating system meets the current Studio requirements below.
- Check network and security software. A firewall, antivirus program, VPN, proxy, or security filter may interfere with downloading or launching Roblox files. Prefer allowing Roblox through the relevant protection rather than leaving security software disabled.
- Check the system clock. On Windows, verify that automatic date and time are enabled and that the time zone is correct. An incorrect clock can cause connection or authentication failures.
- Uninstall, restart, and reinstall. Use this escalation step only if running the installer over the existing installation does not work.
Roblox’s general Studio troubleshooting guidance also recommends restarting, checking proxy settings and the system clock, closing other programs during installation, and reinstalling when problems continue.
Windows requirements and troubleshooting
Roblox’s current Creator Hub setup documentation lists these Studio requirements:

If the installer will not run, close Roblox and other demanding applications, restart Windows, and run the installer again. Check Windows proxy settings and confirm that firewall or security software is not blocking Roblox. If the installation remains corrupted, follow the reinstall process in Roblox’s official reinstall guidance.
For persistent Windows installation or launch failures, corrupted temporary files or other Roblox files may be involved. Roblox also documents these issues in its desktop troubleshooting article. Advanced cleanup should come after restarting and reinstalling, not before.
Mac requirements and troubleshooting
The current Creator Hub setup page lists macOS 10.14 as the minimum version and macOS 14 or later as recommended. It lists 3 GB RAM as the minimum, 8 GB as recommended, and recommends a resolution of 1600×900 or higher.

Quit Studio fully, download the current RobloxStudio.dmg, and reinstall it. Restart the Mac if the installer completes but Studio will not launch. If that does not resolve the problem, use Roblox’s Mac troubleshooting instructions, which include removing Roblox applications and, when necessary, cleaning Roblox logs or settings.
Deleting logs or settings is an advanced step because it can remove local preferences or cached data. Do not begin there. Also remember that macOS application menus appear in the system menu bar at the top of the screen, rather than necessarily inside the Studio window. The update control itself is documented as being in Studio’s upper-right corner.

Will reinstalling Studio delete your Roblox games?
A saved or published Roblox place is stored separately from the Studio application files. Reinstalling Studio normally replaces the application files and does not remove places saved to your Roblox account. However, an unsaved local edit can be lost when Studio closes, so always save or publish before updating or reinstalling.
For important projects, use Roblox’s Version History or keep a local backup. Version History can restore a saved or published version, but restoring a version does not automatically publish it to the live experience; review it and publish it separately when ready.

For packages, Roblox documents an AutoUpdate option on a package’s PackageLink, as well as manual update controls. Modified package copies may not update automatically. See the official package documentation.

How to tell whether Studio updated
Roblox’s current setup documentation does not provide a universal, current version-number menu path. Instead, look for practical signs that the update succeeded:
- Studio closed and restarted without an installation error.
- The Update button is no longer displayed.
- The feature or API that prompted the update is now available.
- The official installer completed successfully.
- Studio opens normally after a full quit and relaunch.
A Studio update changes the creator application and its engine/API environment. It does not automatically change the live game or publish work to players.
Is Roblox Studio available on phones or tablets?
Roblox’s current official setup documentation describes Studio for Windows and Mac. It does not present Studio as a mobile application for phones or tablets. To update Studio using the documented method, use a supported Windows PC or Mac.
When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox Support after restarting, running the official installer, and attempting the documented reinstall process if Studio still will not update or launch. Include:

Providing those details is more useful than reporting only that “Studio will not update.”
The Bottom Line
Save your place, use Studio’s Update button when available, and fall back to the official Creator Hub installer if it is missing or fails. Uninstall only after the normal reinstall path fails, and never close Studio with important unsaved work.
