2. Remove the existing Canon printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
If the printer is not listed, continue with the driver removal steps below.
3. Remove the old Canon driver
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printui /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Select the Canon driver associated with the printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when offered.
- Confirm and restart Windows.
If Windows says the driver is in use, close Canon utilities and print-related applications, restart, and repeat the process.

4. Download the replacement package
Open Canon’s official Support site and search for the exact printer model. Select the installed Windows version and architecture when Canon presents those choices. Download the listed Printer Driver, MP Drivers, or complete setup package.
Avoid third-party driver aggregators and standalone DLL downloads. The complete Canon installer is important because it supplies the DLL and its related files together.
5. Install the package
- Close open applications.
- Disconnect or turn off the printer if Canon’s installer requests it.
- Open File Explorer and go to Downloads.
- Right-click the Canon installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the connection and installation prompts.
- Connect or turn on the printer only when instructed.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Print a Windows test page.
To test the result, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer, choose Printer properties, and select Print Test Page. If the test page prints and the startup error no longer appears, the driver installation repaired the problem.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.

- Press Windows + E.
- Select This PC.
- Search for
cnb_0301.dll. - Review every result’s folder path.
Do not copy a file from one result to another. A DLL with the right name in the wrong directory may belong to a different installation or may be malicious.
A 32-bit Canon component can be used by a 32-bit Canon utility on 64-bit Windows. That does not mean you should copy it into C:WindowsSystem32. Windows uses separate locations and loading rules for 32-bit and 64-bit software, so the correct destination is determined by the Canon installer.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components when other programs are failing
Use this step when several unrelated applications report damaged or missing system files. If only Canon software is affected, reinstalling the Canon driver is more likely to help.
Run DISM
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
Do not close the window while DISM is working. A successful completion indicates that the Windows component store was checked and repaired if needed.
Run System File Checker
In the same elevated Command Prompt, enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward, then test the Canon utility again.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupt files, test the printer. If it reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run the DISM command again before repeating SFC.

Install pending updates
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Check for updates again after restarting.
Inspect Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if present, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a yellow warning icon or an unknown device.
- Right-click the affected Canon entry and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
If the device has an error, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and run the Canon installer again. Do not select a generic driver merely to make the warning disappear unless Canon documents that driver for the model.

Usually, no. There is no evidence that cnb_0301.dll is part of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or Windows itself.
A Canon installer may require a runtime in a particular case. If it displays that requirement, use the architecture specified by the installer. Installing a random Visual C++ package will not replace a missing Canon driver component and may leave the original problem unchanged.

Not as a first-line repair.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver library may not be self-registering. Running:
regsvr32 cnb_0301.dll
can produce “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found” or a dependency error. That result does not prove the Canon installation is repaired or damaged.

Use regsvr32 only when Canon’s documentation or a Canon support technician specifically instructs you to register that particular file. For a missing printer-driver DLL, reinstall the complete package instead.
Do not download the DLL separately
Standalone DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file with no relationship to your printer. Even a genuine copy may not fix the missing dependencies, registry entries, services, or configuration installed alongside the driver.

Do not place a downloaded copy in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A game folder
- An unrelated application folder
- The Windows directory generally
Use Canon’s model-specific installer. If the printer is no longer supported for your Windows release, check Canon’s compatibility information and use a Windows-provided driver only when Canon or Microsoft documents that path.
