Yes—Nintendo Today! is a real, free Nintendo app available for iPhone, iPad, and Android. It launched on March 27, 2025, and delivers personalized Nintendo news, videos, comics, game information, event reminders, calendar features, widgets, and wallpapers. It is a smartphone and tablet app, not a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 game.
You need a Nintendo Account, a supported device, and an internet connection. Availability can vary by country or region.
What is Nintendo Today!?
Nintendo Today! is an official content and event-calendar app for smart devices. Nintendo describes it as a personalized daily feed for news and information about its games and related events.
Depending on your interests and Nintendo-related activity, the app can show:

The calendar launched with themes based on Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pikmin. Nintendo also says the in-app event schedule can optionally link with the iOS Calendar app or Google Calendar app.
When did Nintendo Today! launch?
Nintendo announced and released Nintendo Today! on March 27, 2025, alongside that day’s Nintendo Direct. It launched for iOS and Android, with an initial rollout across 40 countries and regions. Nintendo’s original announcement also identified DeNA as its development and operating partner.
That launch date matters: in 2026, Nintendo Today! is no longer a newly released app. It is an established service that remains available where supported.

Yes. Nintendo describes the app as free, and creating a Nintendo Account is also free. The app requires an internet connection, so your mobile provider’s data charges may apply.
Compatibility and requirements
Nintendo’s current US product page lists these minimum requirements:
Rank #3
- Play your way with the Nintendo Switch gaming system. Whether you’re at home or on the go, solo or with friends, the Nintendo Switch system is designed to fit your life. Dock your Nintendo Switch to enjoy HD gaming on your TV. Heading out? Just undock your console and keep playing in handheld mode
- This model includes battery life of approximately 4.5 - 9 hours.
- The battery life will depend on the games you play. For instance, the battery will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (games sold separately)
- Model number HAC 001( 01)
| Device | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | iOS 16.0 or later |
| Android phone or tablet | Android 10.0 or later |
| All supported devices | A compatible smart device, Nintendo Account, and persistent internet connection |
Meeting the operating-system minimum does not guarantee that every phone will be supported. Store availability and device compatibility can vary by country, region, and hardware.
Nintendo Today! is designed for smart devices. It is not a native Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 application, and Nintendo does not present it as a requirement for using either console.
What happens during setup?
The setup process generally follows this path:
- Install and open the official app.
- Sign in with a Nintendo Account.
- Choose Nintendo series or content interests when prompted.
- Review notification and calendar permissions before accepting them.
- Optionally add a Nintendo Today! widget to your device’s home screen.
- Optionally connect the app’s event schedule to your device calendar.
Notifications and calendar access should be treated as optional permissions. Review what your device asks the app to access rather than accepting every prompt automatically.

What Nintendo Today! is not
Nintendo Today! is easy to confuse with Nintendo’s other mobile services, but its purpose is narrower:
- It is not a game or game launcher.
- It is not the Nintendo Switch App for console-related services such as supported voice-chat and game features.
- It is not a replacement for Nintendo Switch Online.
- It is not a complete Nintendo eShop, shopping, or account-management hub.
- It does not guarantee every Nintendo announcement will appear immediately; its feed is personalized and curated.
Nintendo’s separate Nintendo Switch App support page covers the console companion app. Nintendo Today!’s purpose is news, content, and event scheduling, as described in Nintendo’s support overview.

Nintendo Today! is worth trying if you want official Nintendo information gathered in one place. It is particularly useful for players who track game releases and in-game events, want an at-a-glance Nintendo widget, or enjoy themed wallpapers and calendar designs.
Best Value
- One player can use a Joy-Con in each hand
- Two players can each take one
- Multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options (additional Joy-Con sold separately)
- Slip a set of Joy-Con into a Joy-Con grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
It is less useful if you already follow Nintendo closely through its website, email, YouTube, or social channels; do not want another content feed; or expect console management, voice chat, messaging, shopping, or Nintendo Switch Online features.
The app is a convenience, not an essential Nintendo service. You do not need it to play Nintendo games or use a Switch or Switch 2.
If Nintendo Today! does not appear in your app store
A missing listing does not necessarily mean the app has been discontinued. Try these checks:
- Open Nintendo’s official product page and use its store link.
- Search for the exact title, Nintendo Today!, rather than “Nintendo app.”
- Confirm that your phone meets the iOS 16 or Android 10 requirement.
- Check the country or region assigned to your app-store account.
- Update the device, restart it, and refresh the store listing.
- Do not sideload an APK from an unofficial source.
Nintendo’s initial rollout did not cover every market. Although Nintendo planned additional availability in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan later in 2025, current availability should be checked against the relevant store listing. Nintendo also maintains a region-availability support page.
