iFixit Offers Official Xbox Series X|S Repair Parts—What Owners Need to Know in 2026

iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub offers genuine parts and repair guides for selected Xbox Series S and Series X consoles—but compatibility, skill requirements and total cost vary.

Yes—iFixit offers official Microsoft replacement parts and free repair guides for selected Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X consoles. The program covers components such as power supplies, HDMI ports, fans, motherboards, internal boards, shells, cables and, for some Series S configurations, SSDs. But “official parts” does not mean every repair is easy or every catalog item is a Microsoft-made component. Model, region, storage and console revision must be checked before ordering.

The original partnership announcement was made on December 6, 2024. iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub remains the best starting point for matching a console to its parts and guide.

What iFixit’s Xbox repair partnership includes

The program combines three things:

  1. Replacement parts identified as genuine Microsoft parts where the individual listing uses that wording.
  2. Free, illustrated iFixit repair guides for disassembly, replacement and maintenance.
  3. Tools and repair kits, including iFixit-branded products for opening and servicing consoles.

This is more than a catalog of generic third-party components. However, iFixit does not manufacture every item it sells. A product labeled Genuine Microsoft Part should not be treated the same as an iFixit tool, thermal product or third-party controller component.

The original announcement covered the Xbox Series S and both major Series X configurations: the disc-drive console and the all-digital Series X. Later catalog entries and availability can change, so the current listing—not the 2024 announcement—determines what can actually be bought.

Which Xbox consoles are supported?

iFixit’s repair hub separates the catalog into three product families:

  • Xbox Series S
  • Xbox Series X all-digital edition
  • Xbox Series X disc-drive edition

These are not interchangeable platforms. A Series S power supply, motherboard or shell should not be assumed to fit a Series X, and parts for one Series X revision may not fit another.

Model matching is especially important for the Series S. iFixit listings distinguish 12-digit and 14-digit model or serial-number formats, while motherboard listings may also vary by region and storage configuration. Series X listings include model numbers such as RRT-00010 and RRT-00013; the all-digital Series X catalog identifies Model 1882, while Series S listings include Model 1883.

What parts are available?

Depending on the console and region, the catalog includes:

Catalog counts, prices and stock are volatile. The Series X page inspected for this article showed 25 results, while the Series S catalog contained model-specific parts including power supplies, HDMI ports, motherboards, case pieces, an SSD and heat-sink hardware.

Item Price seen Important qualification
Xbox Toolkit $14.99 iFixit tool kit, not a Microsoft replacement part
Xbox Series X power supply $79.99 For listed Series X models; verify the model number
Xbox Series X HDMI port $14.99 Replacement generally requires soldering
Xbox Series X fan $24.99 Model-specific
Series S 12-digit-model power supply $69.99 Separate from other Series S power-supply listings
Series S 14-digit-model power supply $89.99 Listed as a genuine Microsoft part; limited stock was shown
Series S HDMI port $17.99 Low part cost does not eliminate soldering labor
Series S motherboard $259.99 or more Region, storage and model matching are critical
Series S SSD $99.99 Treat as a repair component unless an upgrade procedure is documented

Check the current Microsoft replacement-parts catalog before relying on any price or availability statement.

What does “official” mean?

The safest wording is “Genuine Microsoft Part” when that exact designation appears on the product page. iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub also describes a mix of official Microsoft parts and iFixit tools in its repair offerings.

That distinction matters. An iFixit screwdriver kit or thermal product may be suitable for the job without being a Microsoft OEM component. Likewise, a controller part or consumable should not automatically be described as an official Microsoft replacement part merely because it appears in the same catalog.

A Microsoft Xbox Series S service guide hosted by iFixit identifies iFixit as a partner source for genuine Microsoft replacement parts. Even so, verify the label on each individual listing.

How to choose the correct part

  1. Identify the console family: Series S or Series X.
  2. For Series X, identify the edition: disc-drive or all-digital.
  3. Record the model number, storage capacity and serial-number format.
  4. Check the market or region, particularly for motherboards.
  5. Open the exact repair guide and compare its parts list with the product listing.
  6. Compare photos, connectors, cable routing and board layout before ordering.
  7. Check stock, return terms and any product warranty before purchasing.

Do not use the phrase “Xbox Series X|S” as a compatibility shortcut. It describes a family of consoles, not one common internal design.

How difficult are the repairs?

More approachable jobs

Cleaning, shell replacement, some fan replacements, certain cable swaps and selected board replacements are the more realistic DIY jobs—provided the guide matches the console and the owner is comfortable working inside electronics.

The Xbox Toolkit includes Torx bits, a screwdriver and accessories intended for opening Xbox consoles and controllers. It is useful for many mechanical repairs, but it is not a complete solution for every job.

Repairs requiring greater skill

HDMI-port replacement is a board-level soldering job. The part may cost only $14.99 or $17.99, but the total repair can include soldering equipment, microscope or magnification, consumables and professional labor. A damaged board can make the repair more expensive than the original fault.

Motherboard replacement is also not a routine plug-in upgrade. Series S motherboard listings inspected ranged from $259.99 to more than $327, with region, storage and serial-format distinctions. A motherboard swap may involve system configuration, storage, device identity or software-provisioning considerations. Do not assume it will preserve every original function without checking the relevant guide.

Power-supply work deserves extra caution because the console contains high-voltage components. Unplugging the console is essential, but it does not make careless handling safe. Follow the service guide exactly and avoid working on an energized device.

Read the guide before opening the console

iFixit’s guides are free and illustrated, but difficulty varies substantially. For example, the Series S motherboard guide inspected for this article was rated moderate and estimated at one to two hours; it was updated July 29, 2026. Use the guide for the exact repair rather than relying on a generic teardown.

Before beginning:

  • Complete ordinary troubleshooting and install available console updates.
  • Confirm that the symptom points to hardware rather than software.
  • Check Microsoft warranty and service status.
  • Read the entire guide and parts list before buying anything.
  • Unplug the console and disconnect accessories.
  • Use a clean, well-lit, antistatic workspace.
  • Photograph cable routing and connector orientation during disassembly.
  • Keep screws organized by location.
  • Do not reuse damaged thermal material.
  • Test the console before fully closing it, if the guide allows.

The Series S guide distinguishes thermal putty or another high-viscosity compound for larger gaps from standard thermal paste used for the APU. Substituting the wrong material can create thermal problems even when the replacement part itself is correct.

DIY, Microsoft service or a repair shop?

DIY is sensible when:

  • The fault has been diagnosed with reasonable confidence.
  • The part is clearly compatible and in stock.
  • The console is otherwise healthy.
  • The repair is mechanical rather than board-level.
  • You already have the required tools and workspace.
  • The complete DIY cost is meaningfully below service or replacement.

Use a professional repair shop when:

  • The HDMI port is damaged.
  • There is liquid damage, corrosion or a burned component.
  • Motherboard failure is suspected.
  • You lack soldering or electronics experience.
  • The part is expensive or difficult to return.
  • You cannot confidently identify the fault.

Microsoft service may be preferable when:

  • The console is still under warranty.
  • The problem may be software-related.
  • You want official service accountability.
  • The repair involves serialized or region-specific hardware.
  • You do not want to risk additional damage.

Check the Xbox Support portal before opening the console. Warranty consequences depend on jurisdiction, damage, tampering and the applicable terms; opening a console does not justify a blanket claim that every warranty is automatically void.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Ordering a Series S component for a Series X.
  • Confusing disc-drive Series X parts with all-digital Series X parts.
  • Ignoring region, storage or serial-format differences on motherboard listings.
  • Assuming every catalog item is a Microsoft OEM component.
  • Treating a part-only price as the total repair cost.
  • Attempting HDMI repair without suitable soldering equipment and experience.
  • Reusing damaged thermal putty or paste.
  • Losing or mixing screws.
  • Pinching cables during reassembly.
  • Failing to test the console before final closure.
  • Assuming an SSD listing automatically represents a plug-and-play storage upgrade.

Bottom line

iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub makes Xbox Series X|S repair more practical by combining genuine Microsoft replacement parts, model-specific documentation and accessible tools. It is particularly useful for owners replacing a fan, power supply, shell component or cable, or for professional technicians sourcing the correct part.

It is not automatically the cheapest or safest answer for every failure. HDMI and motherboard work can require specialist skills, and a several-hundred-dollar motherboard may make Microsoft service, a repair shop or a replacement console more attractive. Confirm the exact model, read the matching guide, calculate the complete repair cost and treat every price and stock status as changeable.
