A HotHardware report published October 6, 2023, said an FCC listing identified a Valve device as “Steam Deck (Model: 1030).” That is evidence the report interpreted as a possible hardware revision—not confirmation that Valve announced a new Steam Deck, set a release date, or finalized specifications. The same report raised a possible concern about the wireless-module supplier, but did not establish a vulnerability in the device.
Does the FCC listing confirm Valve is making a new Steam Deck?
Not on its own. HotHardware’s October 6, 2023 report described a South Korean radio certification in early September for an unidentified product numbered 1030, then said an FCC listing identified a “Valve Steam Deck (Model: 1030).” The report treated that listing as a sign Valve was working on a revised Steam Deck. It is a plausible interpretation of the reported model identification, not a Valve announcement or proof of a consumer launch.
The report also compared the filing timeline with the original Steam Deck’s path from filing to shipping. That comparison was speculation about possible timing; it did not establish a release schedule. No confirmed launch date or final specifications follow from the report.
Does the FCC filing confirm Wi-Fi 6E or 6 GHz support?
No. HotHardware attributed the Wi-Fi 6E and 6 GHz claim to XR influencer Brad “SadlyIsBradley” Lynch, while noting that the FCC listing, as the article read it, did not appear to show 6 GHz operation. The 6E claim therefore remained unconfirmed in that report.

- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
The original FCC documents have not been independently reviewed here, so the exact radio bands and authorization details are unresolved. The listing description reported by HotHardware should not be treated as a complete specification sheet.
What was the reported Quectel security concern?
HotHardware said Valve appeared to be working with Quectel for the wireless module. The report raised concern by referring to prior reporting that Quectel worked directly with the Chinese Communist Party, particularly in cellular IoT, and suggested that possible future government action could create a problem for Valve.

That was a hypothetical concern, not a finding that this Steam Deck was compromised. The report did not identify a device-specific vulnerability or establish that sanctions or other government action had occurred. Its security framing should be understood as an attributed risk scenario, not proof that Model 1030 was unsafe.

- Model identification: HotHardware said an FCC listing identified a Valve Steam Deck Model 1030.
- Refresh status: The listing was interpreted as evidence of a possible revision, not confirmation of a launched or officially announced product.
- Wireless features: Wi-Fi 6E/6 GHz was a leaker’s claim that the report said the listing did not appear to confirm.
- Security: The Quectel concern was a hypothetical risk raised by the report; no Steam Deck-specific vulnerability was established.
These points reflect Nathan Ord’s HotHardware report, published October 6, 2023: “FCC Listing Hints A Steam Deck Refresh Is Inbound But With Possible Security Concerns.” It is a secondary technology-news account, not a current Valve announcement.
