Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To check Steam Deck battery health, switch to Desktop Mode and inspect the KDE battery or power information panel. If it does not show capacity details, use Konsole and UPower to inspect the battery device’s reported full-charge and design-capacity properties. These values estimate battery condition; they do not predict how long a particular game will run.
Check battery capacity in Desktop Mode
-
In Gaming Mode, press the Steam button and choose Power > Switch to Desktop. Valve’s Basic Use & Troubleshooting Guide documents this route.
-
In Desktop Mode, open the battery or power icon in the system tray and look for its detailed energy or battery information view. Steam Deck uses KDE Plasma for its desktop, but panel labels and available details may vary with SteamOS updates.
-
If the panel shows battery capacity or health, note the figure and whether it is expressed as a percentage or in energy units. A reported full-charge capacity compared with the battery’s original or design capacity is more informative about wear than the current charge percentage alone.

Use UPower if the desktop panel lacks detail
UPower exposes properties for power devices, including battery capacity-related information. Open Konsole and use UPower to identify the battery device and inspect its properties; the device path and property names can vary, so do not assume a particular identifier will be the same on every Deck or SteamOS build. UPower describes capacity as a health-related value that declines as a battery ages. See the UPower Device Reference Manual.
For a useful comparison, look for the device’s reported full-charge capacity and its original or design capacity. If both are available in the same units, the full-charge figure relative to the design figure gives an estimate of remaining capacity. It is not a direct test of gameplay runtime or a definitive diagnosis of a fault.

Use the right capacity baseline for your Steam Deck
Valve lists different battery design capacities for the two main models. Its Steam Deck technical specifications give these baselines and broad gameplay ranges:
| Model | Design battery capacity | Valve’s stated gameplay range |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck LCD | 40 Wh | 2–8 hours |
| Steam Deck OLED | 50 Wh | 3–12 hours |
Those runtime ranges are broad product estimates, not promises for every game or a battery-health test. The battery’s reported full-charge value and percentage can vary; compare like units and use the correct LCD or OLED baseline rather than treating the two models as interchangeable.

- Compatible with SteamDeck LCD & OLED Handheld Gaming Console.(Replacement Battery Model: F7A,F7G,F7GM)
- Replacement battery for Steamdeck internal battery, 53Wh large capacity, no need charge frequently or plugging chareging cable or power bank for your old battery.
- This is the upgraded 53Wh battery, offering increased capacity compared to the original 40Wh battery in the LCD console. When compared to the original 50Wh battery in the OLED console, this 53Wh battery delivers at least equivalent battery life, injecting new vitality into your gaming console for a smoother gaming experience.
- Replacement the battery requires the open the console cover, which may affect the warranty after replacing the battery if the machine is still under warranty. Please give due consideration before replacement.
- Note that if the new battery is not recognized on initial installation, reinstall and check that the interface is fully connected. Discharge the new battery to 10-20% (not 0%), then charge and cycle 3-4 times to wake up the new battery
Why a shorter session does not prove battery wear
Gameplay time depends on the workload as well as battery condition. Different games and performance or brightness settings can produce very different drain rates, so a short session by itself cannot establish degradation. If runtime is your concern, compare sessions using the same game, similar brightness and performance settings, and a similar starting and ending charge range.
Also distinguish remaining charge from capacity: charge is how much energy is available now, while capacity reporting estimates how much the battery can hold relative to its original design. Neither number alone tells you exactly how long your current game session will last.

Understand a reading below 100% while charging
A reading below full while the Deck remains connected to power is not automatically evidence of a problem. Valve says that after the device has been on the charger for a long time, it may slowly discharge and report less than 100% to support long-term battery health. See Valve’s Power and charging guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Decide whether to monitor, seek support, or consider repair
There is no universal replacement percentage established by the cited Valve or UPower material. Treat a single estimate as one data point rather than a pass/fail threshold. Consider the full-charge-capacity estimate against the correct model baseline, runtime under comparable workloads, and whether the reading stays low across ordinary use and charging. If capacity appears persistently reduced or the Deck has a charging or power problem, contact Valve Support before opening the device.

Valve’s support guidance discourages opening or modifying the Deck because damage caused by doing so will not be covered by the product warranty. For an LCD repair specifically, iFixit lists a genuine 40 Wh / 5200 mAh replacement battery for supported LCD variants; that figure describes the replacement part, not a measured health result for existing Decks. Confirm exact model and revision compatibility and current local availability. The iFixit Steam Deck Battery Replacement guide describes the repair as difficult and warns of puncture and heat risks from the strongly adhered lithium-polymer battery. Its procedure advises discharging below 5% and using battery storage mode; this is not a casual or risk-free repair. The cited listing does not establish an OLED replacement option.
Battery storage mode is not a health test
For longer-term storage, Valve documents entering BIOS with Volume+ and Power, then choosing Setup Utility > Power > Battery storage mode. LED confirmation differs between LCD and OLED models. This storage setting is intended for storage, not for diagnosing battery health.
