An account ban, by contrast, applies to a particular account. Riot says another account used on a hardware-banned computer may also receive a time-based ban, and reinstalling the game or deleting an account does not remove the device restriction.
What a VALORANT hardware ban restricts
Riot describes an HWID ban as a device-level restriction tied to a computer’s physical components. It blocks access to Riot games and platforms from that device, rather than sanctioning only one login. Riot’s Community Pact puts the distinction plainly: an HWID ban blocks “your actual device, not just your account—so even new accounts can’t log in from that hardware.” Riot Support’s HWID ban explanation and the Riot Games Community Pact describe the policy; neither specifies the exact hardware identifiers used.
Hardware ban vs. account ban
| Question | HWID ban | Account ban |
|---|---|---|
| What is restricted? | Riot game access from the affected computer. | The sanctioned account. Riot defines a permanent account suspension as permanently preventing that account from playing. |
| Can another account play on the computer? | No. Riot says accounts used on the hardware-banned device will be restricted from Riot products there; the account may also receive a time-based ban. | The sanction described applies to the banned account, not by itself to every account on the computer. |
| Does reinstalling the game remove it? | No. Reinstalling the game or deleting the responsible account does not remove the HWID restriction. | Reinstalling does not change which account Riot sanctioned; Riot’s cited policy does not describe it as a way to reverse an account suspension. |
| What review route does Riot describe? | Submit a Player Support request for re-evaluation. Riot may lift or extend the HWID ban; lifting is not guaranteed. | The HWID article’s review process concerns HWID bans; it does not establish a separate review outcome for account-only sanctions. |
Riot’s policy descriptions distinguish the two sanctions by scope, not by how long every case lasts. The reviewed HWID article does not state a standard numeric duration. Check the notice on your case or ask Riot Player Support for case-specific information.
Can another account play on an HWID-banned PC?
Riot advises against logging into any account on a computer suspected of having an HWID ban. Its stated rationale is that the system may treat use of another account as an attempt to circumvent the original ban, leading to a set-period ban on that account as well as device-level restriction from Riot products.

Does reinstalling VALORANT remove an HWID ban?
No. Riot Support states: “Reinstalling a game or deleting the responsible account won’t remove an HWID ban.” Reinstalling is not an appeal and does not clear the restriction.
What can lead to a hardware ban?
Riot says HWID bans generally follow patterns including extreme chat aggression or intentional feeding across many permanently banned accounts, a verifiable threat of harm against players or Rioters, or detection of third-party scripting or cheating tools. Separately, Riot says using unauthorized hardware or software—such as auto-clickers or aimbots—that gives an unfair in-game advantage can result in a permanent account ban. These policies do not mean every account ban also includes an HWID ban. See Riot’s cheating policy.

If Riot lifts the HWID ban, note that accounts banned before the review remain banned until their own HWID-ban period ends.
What VAN 152 means
Riot’s HWID article associates an active hardware ban with error code VAN 152. That code is a clue to check the ban notice and Riot Support guidance, not a basis for assuming every Vanguard error or device restriction is an HWID ban.
