Insider Gaming reports 15 shiny-locked Pokémon in the Mega Dimension DLC, including Heatran, Darkrai, and several Mythical Pokémon. One important exception: the gifted Gimmighoul is reported locked, but wild Gimmighoul in Hyperspace Lumiose can be shiny. The five Legendary Pokémon reported as shiny-huntable are Latios, Latias, Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion. Nintendo has not published an official shiny-lock roster, so treat the list below as guide-reported rather than a Nintendo-confirmed list.
Which Pokémon are shiny-locked in Mega Dimension?
The following 15 entries are reported shiny-locked by Insider Gaming’s guide, which credits Serebii for its list. Nintendo’s update notes cover DLC requirements and fixes but do not enumerate shiny locks.
| Pokémon | Reported encounter | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Heatran | Static encounter | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Darkrai | Static/story encounter | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Kyogre | Static, post-story Legendary mission | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Groudon | Static, post-story Legendary mission | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Rayquaza | Static encounter after Kyogre and Groudon | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Meloetta | Static special Hyperspace encounter | Reported shiny-locked; its appearance in the Hyperspace Pokédex does not make it one of the five huntable Legendaries. |
| Genesect | Side Mission 191 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Magearna | Side Mission 156 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Marshadow | Side Mission 192 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Zeraora | Side mission | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Hoopa | Side Mission 196 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Volcanion | 5-star Hyperspace encounter | Reported shiny-locked by the guide list; the encounter listing alone does not establish shiny eligibility. |
| Meltan | Side Mission 193 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Melmetal | Given during Side Mission 193 | Reported shiny-locked. |
| Gimmighoul | Gift Pokémon | The gift is reported locked; wild Gimmighoul in Hyperspace Lumiose can be shiny. |
Which Legendary Pokémon can you shiny hunt?
After the main DLC story, the five Legendary Pokémon reported as huntable in special Hyperspace zones are Latios, Latias, Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion, according to Insider Gaming’s guide to the hunts. This is a narrower group than every Legendary or Mythical Pokémon that appears in DLC encounter references: Meloetta, for example, appears as a special Hyperspace encounter but is on the reported shiny-lock list.
How Sparkling Power and shiny odds affect these hunts
For eligible encounters, Serebii’s shiny mechanics reference lists base odds of 1 in 4,096, 1 in 1,024.38 with the Shiny Charm, and 1 in 585.37 with both the charm and Level 3 Sparkling Power. These figures do not override a shiny lock.

- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon

- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
- Shiny Charm: Serebii says it is earned by completing Mable’s Pokédex requests through level 50; its listed effective odds are 1 in 1,024.38.
- Donuts: Ansha’s donuts can grant Sparkling Power for a Hyperspace excursion. Serebii reports Level 3 Sparkling Power guarantees a shiny of the matching type as the excursion’s first spawn. The reference says the five named Legendary hunts can be affected by matching-type or all-types power.
- Locks still apply: Sparkling Power can improve odds only for encounters eligible to be shiny; it cannot make a locked Pokémon shiny.
What happens to Hyperspace shinies when you leave?
Serebii reports that up to 10 shiny Pokémon can be stored in place in the city. A shiny found in Hyperspace persists only during that portal excursion; leaving Hyperspace makes it disappear. If you encounter one, plan to secure it before ending the excursion.
When can you start Mega Dimension?
Nintendo says the additional story content became available with version 2.0.0 and requires completing the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A first. See Nintendo’s update notes for the version requirement and progression detail.

- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Nintendo’s version 2.0.1 notes, released January 21, 2026, include a fix for some shinies obtained before the DLC that might not register to the Mega Evolution Pokédex after obtaining the relevant Mega Stones. That is a registration issue, not evidence that those Pokémon were shiny-locked.

Nintendo has not published a definitive list of shiny-locked Mega Dimension Pokémon in the sources available. The 15-entry roster and the Gimmighoul gift-versus-wild distinction come from the cited guide, while Nintendo Life’s Hyperspace Pokédex guide provides encounter and mission context for DLC species. That guide lists 132 entries, but a Pokédex entry or encounter location by itself does not prove that a Pokémon can appear shiny.
