Do You Need to Buy an Xbox Play Anywhere Game Twice?

No. One qualifying digital purchase lets you play an Xbox Play Anywhere game on a compatible Xbox console, Windows 10/11 PC, or supported gaming handheld at no additional cost. The game must be marked as Play Anywhere, and you must sign in with the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns it.

When does one purchase cover Xbox and PC?

Xbox’s Play Anywhere FAQ says an eligible digital game bought through the Xbox Store or Windows Store can be played on supported Xbox consoles, Windows 10/11 PCs, and supported gaming handhelds without buying it again. The designation applies to participating games, not every game sold for Xbox.

#	Preview	Product	Price
1 $100 XBOX Gift Card [Digital Code]	$100.00	Buy on Amazon
2 $10 XBOX Gift Card [Digital Code]	$10.00	Buy on Amazon
3 $50 XBOX Gift Card [Digital Code]	$50.00	Buy on Amazon
4 $25 XBOX Gift Card [Digital Code]	$25.00	Buy on Amazon
5 Xbox Physical Gift Card	$25.00	Buy on Amazon

Before purchasing, look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the game’s store listing or check Xbox’s participating-games list. The list can change, so verify the specific title before you buy. Store availability and terms may vary by region; the cited FAQ is Xbox’s US page.

What counts as a qualifying purchase?

The entitlement is digital-only. Xbox lists purchases through the Xbox Store or Windows Store, as well as digital codes from participating retailers. A physical disc does not qualify for Play Anywhere access on PC.

Having a Play Anywhere game available through a subscription is not necessarily the same as owning it. Xbox’s FAQ does not explain how catalog access works or what happens when a subscription game leaves the catalog, so check the applicable subscription terms rather than assuming that access creates a permanent purchase entitlement.

How do you find the game on another device?

1. Sign in on the new device with the Microsoft/Xbox account associated with the digital purchase.
2. On Xbox, look under Ready to Install. On a Windows PC, look in My Library.
3. Install the game on a supported device. Xbox’s FAQ specifies Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update or later and the latest console update.

Can you play on Xbox and PC at the same time?

Play Anywhere lets you move between supported devices without buying another copy, but it does not grant simultaneous use of the same game on multiple devices with one account. Xbox says the same game can be signed into on one Xbox console, one Windows 10/11 PC, or one supported handheld at a time, and not simultaneously across those devices.

Do saves and add-ons carry over?

Xbox says game saves, add-ons, and achievements travel with you across supported devices for Play Anywhere titles. Eligible DLC for an owned Play Anywhere game can also be used on those devices, and achievements belong to one shared set.
