If Forza Horizon 6 says “Sign In Required: You may not proceed without being signed in to a profile,” first check that the Microsoft account you intend to use is signed in, restart Windows, install available Windows and Microsoft Store updates, then try the built-in Repair option for the Xbox app or Microsoft Store. These are general Windows troubleshooting steps—not a confirmed fix for this specific Forza error. If Microsoft sign-in succeeds but the game still cannot load your Xbox profile, contact Forza Support with details about your PC and launcher.
What the error means—and what it does not prove
The message means the game cannot proceed with an Xbox profile available. If it is followed by “Please check your network connection to continue,” that wording alone does not establish that your internet connection is the cause.
Microsoft authentication and loading the Xbox profile in the game are separate steps. In a July 23, 2026 Steam Deck OLED report, Microsoft QR-code authentication succeeded, but the game then showed the profile sign-in error. That is a SteamOS/Proton report, not evidence of a Windows-specific cause or fix. Read the Steam Community report.
Try these steps on Windows PC
1. Check the account and launcher
Confirm that the Microsoft account you expect to use with the game is signed in. Note whether you launch Forza Horizon 6 through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store; that information helps distinguish where sign-in may be failing. Avoid switching accounts or unlinking accounts as an initial troubleshooting step: neither is established as a safe or effective remedy for this error.

2. Restart Windows and install updates
- Restart your PC.
- Open Windows Update in Settings and install available updates.
- Open Microsoft Store, go to Library, and install available app updates.

3. Repair the relevant app
If you use the Xbox app or Microsoft Store for the game, try Repair for the relevant app:

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the Xbox app or Microsoft Store, as applicable, then open Advanced options.
- Select Repair if it is available.
Microsoft says app repair options are not available for every app. Its guidance is to “select Repair if it’s available”; this is a general Windows step, not a published fix for the Forza error. Microsoft’s app repair instructions.
4. Consider Reset only if Repair does not help
If Repair is unavailable or unsuccessful, return to the app’s Advanced options and choose Reset if offered. Reset may clear local app data and require you to sign in again. Restart the PC after the reset, then try launching the game. Microsoft notes that availability of these options varies by app. Microsoft’s app repair and reset guidance.

5. Test network filters cautiously
Check that ordinary internet access works. If you use a VPN, proxy, or network filter, briefly test without it only if doing so is safe on your network and appropriate for your region; restore your usual settings afterward. One Linux user reported signing in after disabling a VPN, but that is a single platform-specific anecdote, not evidence that VPNs cause this Windows error or that disabling one will fix it. If the error persists
Contact Forza Support if the steps do not help, or if Microsoft sign-in completes but the Xbox profile still does not appear in the game. Forza’s site identifies Support as the channel for account issues and says it will continue publishing release notes and FAQs.

Include these details so support can understand where the sign-in flow stops:
- Your Windows version and whether you launch through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store.
- The exact error text, including whether “Please check your network connection to continue” appears.
- Whether Microsoft authentication completes before the error appears.
- Whether the same account signs in successfully in the Xbox app.
Windows PC and Steam Deck reports are not interchangeable
An exact-error Steam Community post from May 2026 also describes the message on Steam Deck. In the July 2026 Steam Deck OLED report, reinstalling the game, deleting the Proton prefix, verifying files, changing Proton versions, and signing in again did not resolve that user’s issue. Those details describe one SteamOS/Proton case; they do not establish what fixes the Windows version.

A commenter on the May post linked batch files from an unrelated Microsoft sign-in discussion, and another commenter said trying them did not work. Do not run unverified scripts from forum posts. The available reports do not establish reinstalling the game, deleting credential entries, changing accounts, or altering security settings as Windows fixes for this error.
