What multiplayer modes are in Gears of War: E-Day?
Xbox describes three distinct options: play through the campaign with others, team up for cooperative wave survival in Horde Siege, or compete in Versus. They serve different purposes, so the right choice depends on whether your group wants the story, PvE teamwork, or competitive matches.

How does campaign co-op work?
The campaign can be played solo, locally with one other player on console, or online with up to four players. These are different limits: split-screen is capped at two and is console-only, while online co-op supports a group of up to four.
Xbox’s store listing says online campaign co-op requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately. Subscription availability and terms can vary by platform and region, so check the current listing for your location.

What is Horde Siege?
Horde Siege is E-Day’s cooperative PvE wave-survival mode. Xbox’s multiplayer overview describes 12 players divided into three squads of four. Rather than simply operating as one 12-player group, the squads carry out individual missions across a shared large stage. Launch descriptions also mention shared objectives, world bosses, classes, rewards, and loadout progression.
Those details describe the announced structure and features—not how difficult the waves are, how progression feels, or whether matchmaking reliably fills squads. Those qualities can only be judged from live play.

Is Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer 4v4?
Versus is the competitive 4v4 option. Xbox and The Coalition describe four Versus modes and six new maps at launch. Movement is being modernized, while cover-based combat remains central to the series’ approach.
The announcement establishes the team size and launch content, not match balance, network quality, or the long-term map and mode schedule.

Which platforms and online requirements apply?
Xbox identifies Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam as platforms for E-Day. Xbox also says Play Anywhere supports shared progression and achievements between Xbox Series X|S and PC. The available official descriptions do not fully specify cross-play rules for every platform and mode.
Xbox says online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, Versus, and other online multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer. The subscription is sold separately; check Xbox’s current product listing for applicable terms in your region.

When can you play?
Premium Edition early access began worldwide on October 1, 2026. Xbox Wire gives October 6, 2026, as the worldwide launch date. These dates distinguish early access for Premium Edition buyers from the general launch. Xbox Wire’s launch update
What has not been established yet?
Official feature announcements do not show how the modes fare in actual play. They do not establish matchmaking wait times, server stability, population, cross-play details for each mode, competitive balance, progression pace, or long-term seasonal plans. Treat those as open questions rather than settled features or drawbacks.
