The latest broad general-Multiplayer tier list located for this article was updated September 24, 2026. It puts the VMP, Swordfish A1 and EGRT-17 among its top picks. The rankings are from CODMunity, not Treyarch, and the available tier summary does not establish that one weapon will outperform every alternative in every situation. Why Ranked Play has a different answer
Ranked Play uses a restricted 4v4 weapon pool, so its tier order answers a narrower question than a general-Multiplayer list. CODMunity’s page updated October 1 places the M15 Mod 0 and MPC-25 in its Absolute Meta tier, while placing the VMP in A Tier. What Treyarch has said about Season 06 weapon balance
Treyarch’s official Season 06 patch notes, dated September 30, 2026, do not announce a broad Multiplayer weapon rebalance. They say the VMP and selected attachments were unrestricted in Ranked Play on September 24, and the September 30 Multiplayer notes list Ranked attachment restrictions and stability fixes. The Season 06 overview states: “Weapon tuning will be coming a short time after the launch of Season 06, to allow time for the team to observe where the newest weapons land in the meta.” The notes do not specify when that tuning will arrive or what changes it will include. Season 06 launched September 17 and introduced the VMP and TR51 Para as Battle Pass weapons. Treyarch describes the TR51 Para as a high-damage semi-auto assault rifle that can be configured for full auto, with accuracy and bullet velocity intended to support defensive or aggressive play. Those are official role descriptions, not comparative measurements proving its current tier placement.
How to use a tier list without picking the wrong gun
- Start with your mode. Use the general list for ordinary Multiplayer and the separate Ranked list for restricted 4v4 play; do not transfer the rankings across modes.
- Match the role before comparing names. If you want mobility and flanking, start with the VMP’s SMG role. If you want a precision-burst option, consider the Swordfish A1; for an assault rifle, the broad list points to the EGRT-17. Ranked has its own M15 Mod 0 and MPC-25 placements.
- Check the date and source. The broad list cited here was updated September 24, while the Ranked list was updated October 1. Both are third-party snapshots, and Treyarch has said Season 06 weapon tuning is planned.
- Read the method, not only the tier label. Tier lists and optimizers rank weapons using different criteria. For example, Loadout Lab’s September 7 Season 05 Reloaded optimizer specifies an all-round gunfight objective and names X9 Maverick, RK-9, M10 Breacher, MK.78, M8A1, Shadow SK and Coda 9 as class leaders. Its stated goal and earlier date make it useful context, not a replacement for the later September 24 broad snapshot. See Loadout Lab’s weapon rankings.
- Use the list as a starting point. The sources cited here do not establish a universal best weapon for every map, input device, skill level or playstyle. Check the current patch notes and try the weapon in your own matches before settling on a build.
Official weapon descriptions versus tier placement
Official descriptions help identify intended traits, but they are not fresh head-to-head performance tests. Treyarch characterizes the VMP as a full-auto SMG with fast handling and fire rate, reliable damage and accuracy, and light range falloff. The launch guide, published November 7, 2025, describes the M15 Mod 0 as a well-rounded full-auto rifle and the AK-27 as a high-damage rifle with low vertical but high horizontal recoil and slower handling. The launch guide lists 30 armaments across the game’s modes: 23 primary weapons, five secondary weapons and two melee weapons. It covers classes including assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, LMGs, marksman rifles and sniper rifles, as well as unlock levels and Gunsmith attachment types. Its roster information is useful for orientation, but its November 2025 descriptions predate Season 06.
