For the closest match to Gears of War: E-Day, play Gears 5: it keeps you in the same series and its cover-shooter tradition. If you want a change of pace, The Division 2 offers tactical cover in a larger open world, Outriders adds co-op and powers, and Vanquish swaps cover tactics for high-speed action.
Timing matters: Xbox lists E-Day for standard release on October 6, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning October 1. As of October 4, Premium players may already be playing. Xbox also lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Microsoft Store and Steam, with launch availability in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Which game is closest to Gears of War: E-Day?
Gears 5
Gears 5 is the natural first choice if you want familiar movement, weapons, enemies, and cover combat rather than a different genre built around similar mechanics. It is part of the same franchise, and the E-Day team says it has refined the series’ core pillars: “movement, cover, weapons and enemies.” Xbox lists Gears 5 in the Gears series. The Division 2
The Division 2 is a tactical, third-person shooter with cover-based firefights, but its open-world structure makes it a broader alternative rather than a direct replacement for a focused Gears campaign. Pick it if you want to move through a larger world and spend time in an online-facing shooter experience. Xbox describes The Division 2 as a tactical open-world third-person shooter.

Outriders
Outriders combines gunplay with powers, weapons, and gear. Xbox describes it as a one-to-three-player co-op RPG shooter, making it the pick here for a group that wants ability-driven combat rather than a close imitation of Gears. People Can Fly has a development-history connection to the Gears franchise, but that does not mean the two games play identically. Xbox’s description identifies Outriders as a co-op RPG shooter. Want speed more than cover tactics?
Vanquish
Vanquish is the outlier: PlatinumGames calls it an action shooter and emphasizes pushing forward instead of waiting safely behind cover. That makes it a good choice when you want aggressive, fast-paced action—not the closest mechanical match for Gears. Check the current platform and edition before choosing a copy. PlatinumGames describes Vanquish as an action shooter built around forward momentum.
