Palworld is a survival-crafting game built around gathering resources, crafting, exploring, fighting, and working alongside Pals. Your early progress gets easier when your workers match the stations you build and have food and rest. This route is a practical starting point, not a required quest order.
What to do first in Palworld
For a fresh world, establish basic survival and crafting before roaming far. A 2026 starter route recommends a workbench, campfire, simple tools, and a safe initial area. Treat these as sensible priorities rather than an official checklist: your exact needs depend on your world and settings. Palworld Guide’s 2026 beginner route also cautions that hotfixes may change mechanics.
- Set up basic crafting. Make the tools and stations needed to gather and process early resources.
- Secure food and a safe place to work. A dependable supply matters for you and for the Pals you put to work.
- Unlock and make Pal Spheres. They are the tool used to capture Pals; check the current in-game recipe and prompts as you progress.
- Catch with a purpose. Build a small group that can help you in combat and cover jobs your first base needs.
- Place a Palbox and build around available workers. Start compactly, then add stations as you recruit Pals suited to operate them.
- Explore farther as your supplies and base become dependable. There is no single required route through combat, building, and exploration.
How to catch your first useful Pals
Pal Spheres are used to capture Pals. A beginner guide updated September 5, 2026, and identified as verified for v1.0.3, recommends weakening a target without knocking it out, then throwing a sphere. It also recommends approaching from behind for a back-attack bonus. These are guide recommendations, not a guarantee: capture chances can vary, and balance or recipes may change. Follow the current in-game prompts and sphere descriptions. HowToPlayHub’s Palworld beginner guide
Do not catch only for your active combat group. Early base work can call for Pals with Kindling, Watering, Planting, Handiwork, Lumbering, Mining, or Transporting suitability. Before building around a particular worker, inspect its in-game Work Suitability and see which jobs it can actually perform.

Capture experience is also affected by world or server rules. Pocketpair’s configuration reference documents a PalCaptureRate setting, so a sphere’s displayed odds should not be treated as universal across every world. Pocketpair’s Palworld Server Guide
Build a first base that fits your Pals
The Palbox defines your base area. Build a compact layout that supports the workers and resources you actually have, rather than filling the site with stations before you can operate them. Work Suitability determines which stations a Pal can use; a mismatch may leave it without a useful task. The September 2026 guide gives Kindling for furnaces and Watering for the Crusher as examples. HowToPlayHub’s guide
- Check a Pal’s suitability before placing a station that depends on it.
- Build the station that matches the worker: for example, a furnace needs a Pal suited to Kindling.
- Leave clear routes between work areas so workers can reach their tasks.
- Add stations as your workforce and resource needs grow, rather than overbuilding at the start.
Keep workers fed and rested
Station selection is only part of base management. Pocketpair says each Pal has its own work style and that players are responsible for its well-being; proper food and rest support morale and efficient work. Pocketpair’s Palworld game page

- Build your own zoo with over 500 different animals at your disposal, then splice together over 300,000 different animal combinations
- Keep your animals and your itors happy, with hundreds of buildings, foliage, path and enclosure decorations
- Hire the perfect employees to deal with a variety of life events
- Control everything that happens in your park, from what your animals eat to what eats your animals…
- Decide whether you want to run your Zoo above board... or break the law and pocket the extra cash
Make food production part of the base plan and keep a reserve available. If production slows, check both whether workers have appropriate jobs and whether their basic care needs are being met.
Choose your pace, settings, and play mode
Palworld supports different ways to play, and no one approach is universally best. The Steam listing describes fighting, farming, building, and working alongside Pals, as well as single-player and online co-op. Its listing says online co-op supports up to four players and dedicated servers up to 32; these are store-listing details that may change. Palworld on Steam
World and server settings can change the feel and risk of a new game. Pocketpair documents options affecting capture rate, hunger depletion, death penalty, and fast travel, among others. If advice about difficulty or pacing seems unlike your experience, check the settings for your world before assuming the mechanic is identical. Pocketpair’s server settings reference

A useful general progression is to establish survival basics and food/resource production, catch workers that suit your base, then widen exploration and combat as your setup becomes more reliable. It is a flexible route, not a mandatory sequence.
What to expect as you progress
Captured Pals can support combat and exploration as well as automate production at your base. That connection is central to the game’s loop: gather and craft, catch creatures, use them as allies or workers, and expand what you can do. Pocketpair describes Pal Spheres as tools for capturing weakened creatures and base Pals as workers that automate production. Pocketpair’s Palworld page
Exact sphere recipes, capture balance, level caps, and work-role details are patch-sensitive. The practical advice above draws on a guide marked verified for v1.0.3, but the game’s current prompts and settings should take precedence if they differ. For platform context, PlayStation lists Palworld for PS5, while Steam describes it as an open-world survival and crafting game. PlayStation’s Palworld page · Steam listing
