Use flight to move actively through the air; use gliding when you have height and want to descend more slowly. Both use a shared flight meter and cooldown, so plan a safe landing before the meter runs out.
Flight and gliding do different jobs
Flight: active aerial movement
NCSOFT Taiwan’s official guide describes flight as an aerial movement mode. Its default control listing uses V to start or end flight; normal ground movement controls apply, and Shift accelerates. The guide also says you can attack and gather while flying, making flight the practical choice when you need to steer toward a target or perform an activity in the air. NCSOFT Taiwan’s flight and gliding guide was updated November 18, 2025, and cautions that some details may differ from the game.
Gliding: controlled descent
The same guide characterizes gliding as a slow descent. Holding forward (W in its default control description) increases speed, while Shift temporarily boosts it. That makes gliding useful when you are already airborne and want to manage your descent; the guide does not establish gliding as a way to climb.
Which mode should you use?

This is a functional choice, not a measured performance ranking. The official guide does not establish a reliable numeric distance, speed, or resource-efficiency advantage for one mode over the other.

Manage the shared flight meter
Flight and gliding share a cooldown and meter, and both consume that resource. Switching between modes is described as immediate, but it does not reset or bypass the shared limit. If the meter empties, your character can fall, so begin looking for a landing before depletion rather than trying to stretch either mode to its limit.
Check controls and timing in your client
The default controls listed in NCSOFT Taiwan’s guide are V for flight, W to move forward while gliding, and Shift for acceleration or a temporary glide boost. These are guide-listed defaults, not a guarantee that every client or configuration uses the same bindings. Check the current in-game controls if an input does not behave as described.

An unofficial Aion2 Codex playtest account, updated September 29, 2026, reports short flight durations and stamina drain, but labels those details as community observations rather than official settings. Its reported times should not be treated as universal values. A secondary AllThingsHow guide, updated September 19, 2026, also discusses PC controls and endurance recovery, but it is not an official control listing.
