Nintendo announced a US Switch 2 MSRP of $499.99 effective September 1, 2026, while ASUS lists its ROG Xbox Ally X20 at $1,299.99. Those two figures differ by $800 before tax; Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page reviewed here does not state a current US price, so a three-way total cannot be calculated from these sources.
The devices also serve distinct ecosystems. Their published screen and battery specifications help frame the choice, but they do not establish which handheld runs a particular game better or lasts longer in a controlled comparison.

What the $1,729 figure does—and does not—mean
A price gap only makes sense when the compared configurations, region, retailer, tax treatment, bundles, and date are clear. The available official evidence supplies two current US anchors, but not the Steam Deck OLED price needed to verify the title’s three-device calculation.
| Device | Price evidence | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | $499.99 US MSRP | Nintendo announced the MSRP would rise from $449.99 effective September 1, 2026. Nintendo says its listed US prices exclude tax; retailer prices may differ. Nintendo’s price-revision notice |
| Steam Deck OLED | Current US price not stated | Valve’s reviewed OLED product page provides specifications but no current US price. Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page |
| ROG Xbox Ally X20 (2026) RC74XA | $1,299.99 US listed price | ASUS’s US product listing, accessed October 4, 2026. ASUS specifications and listing |
The Switch 2 and X20 figures differ by $800 before tax. That is a two-device comparison, not proof of a $1,729 gap across all three handhelds. The available price evidence does not identify the configurations, retailers, tax, or bundles behind the $1,729 claim.

Game libraries and storefronts are different
These handhelds are not interchangeable windows onto one shared catalogue. Switch 2 is Nintendo’s console platform; Steam Deck OLED is Valve’s SteamOS-based handheld; the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is a Windows 11 Home gaming handheld. The official product pages cited here do not establish a complete compatibility list or an apples-to-apples performance comparison.
Check the specific games you care about before choosing: confirm their platform availability, handheld compatibility, storefront requirements, and whether any online or account features matter to you. A platform label alone does not prove that every game from a related store or service will work in the way you expect.

Screen specifications at a glance
| Device | Published display specification |
|---|---|
| Switch 2 | 7.9-inch LCD, 1920×1080, HDR10, variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Nintendo launch specifications. Nintendo’s launch announcement |
| Steam Deck OLED | 1280×800 HDR OLED. Valve product page. Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page |
| ROG Xbox Ally X20 | 7.4-inch 1920×1080 OLED, 120 Hz. ASUS specification page. ASUS specifications |
These are manufacturer specifications, not the results of a shared brightness, color, or image-quality test. Resolution, panel type, refresh-rate support, and screen size describe different aspects of a display; they do not by themselves settle which looks best in a particular game or lighting condition.
Battery figures are estimates, not a head-to-head test
| Device | Published battery information | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 | Nintendo estimates 2–6.5 hours. | Estimate from Nintendo’s launch specifications; actual life varies with use. Nintendo’s launch announcement |
| Steam Deck OLED | 40 Wh battery; Valve estimates 2–8 hours depending on content. | Valve’s estimate, not a controlled comparison with Nintendo or ASUS. Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page |
| ROG Xbox Ally X20 | 80 Wh battery capacity listed. | The cited ASUS page does not provide a comparable runtime estimate. ASUS specifications |
The published figures use different kinds of information: two vendors give runtime ranges, while ASUS lists capacity without a comparable runtime. They do not support ranking these devices by endurance. Actual play time depends on the game and how the handheld is used.

Quick Recap
Which specifications matter most for your choice?
- Start with the games. Make a short list of titles you actually want, then verify each one on the relevant platform rather than assuming compatibility from the handheld’s brand.
- Decide what the screen figures mean to you. The Switch 2 and X20 list 1920×1080 displays, while Steam Deck OLED lists 1280×800 HDR OLED; the specifications alone do not measure image quality.
- Treat battery claims cautiously. Compare estimates only as the manufacturers state them; none of the figures here comes from a common test.
- Compare complete prices, not headline numbers. Use the same date and region, account for tax and bundles, and match storage configurations. The official evidence here is insufficient to confirm the three-way $1,729 claim.
