If your phone will not connect to Just Dance, first check which controller mode and game edition you are using. The handheld controller app and Camera Controller Mode work differently, and an app intended for one game edition may not support another. Then reopen the app and game, check camera permission if you use camera tracking, install available updates, and verify the local Wi-Fi connection if your edition uses phone-to-console pairing.
First identify your game edition and controller mode
Ubisoft’s October 2025 Just Dance 2026 Edition patch notes refer to the mobile companion as Just Dance Controller. The name alone does not establish compatibility with every release. For example, Apple’s listing for the separate Just Dance 2016–22 Controller app says it requires a console copy of Just Dance 2016 through 2022.
Handheld phone controller
In handheld mode, the phone is used as a controller. Follow the pairing method shown by your game, and make sure the app is intended for that edition rather than assuming a current app works with an older release.
Camera Controller Mode
Camera Controller Mode uses the phone camera to track full-body movement; you do not hold the phone while dancing. Ubisoft’s October 8, 2025 announcement describes it as solo-only and says all Just Dance 2025 and 2026 choreographies are compatible, with additional compatible songs available through Just Dance+.

Try these connection checks in order
- Restart the pairing attempt. Close and reopen the controller app, return to the game’s controller-pairing screen, and try the method displayed there again. There is no established universal pairing sequence for every current edition, so use the on-screen instructions for your game.
- Allow camera access if you are using Camera Controller Mode. Check your phone’s app permissions and allow camera access for Just Dance Controller, then retry calibration. Ubisoft’s 2025 patch notes documented a case where denying camera permission could leave the app stuck on camera calibration; that specific historical bug does not establish the cause of every current problem.
- Install available game and app updates. Ubisoft’s 2025 notes say Camera Controller Mode left beta for regular use in Just Dance 2026 Edition. The notes also record a fix for a pause-menu screen that could appear after reconnecting during camera-controller scoring. Update both components and retry; the documented fix does not mean every disconnection has the same cause.
- Check the edition’s internet requirements. Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2024 connectivity FAQ says PS5 and Xbox Series X|S require internet to set up the game and use its dedicated controller app. Its Switch guidance distinguishes online group and full-catalogue features from downloaded-song offline play. Those details are specific to Just Dance 2024; check guidance for your own edition before applying them to another release.
- Put the phone and console on the same Wi-Fi network as a basic diagnostic. An older Just Dance 2020 connectivity guide says the app communicates with the console over Wi-Fi and advises connecting both to the same network. This is a reasonable local-network check, not a confirmed requirement or guaranteed fix for every current edition and platform.
If pairing still fails
If the app and game are updated, relevant permissions are allowed, and the local-network check has not helped, record the details before contacting Ubisoft support for your specific edition. Include:
- Console and Just Dance edition
- Phone model and operating-system version
- Controller app version
- The exact error text, if any
- Whether QR pairing, manual code entry, or both fail
- Whether you are using handheld control or Camera Controller Mode
Current official guidance establishing the meaning of QR or code errors, exact menus across platforms, router settings, or a complete repair procedure was not available in the cited materials. Avoid changing router settings or treating a particular error as having a known cause without edition-specific guidance.
