Start with the upcoming game that you can actually play on your platform, can afford or access, and are most excited about—then check that its release timing and your available time line up. Keep a short queue of alternatives, but treat dates, platforms, and subscription availability as details to verify again near launch.

Build a shortlist you can actually play

Release calendars are useful for finding candidates, but a game belongs in your queue only if it works for your setup. Check the individual listing for the platform you plan to use: a title may release on different platforms at different times, or may not be announced for your platform at all.

Separate confirmed dates from broader release windows and titles with no announced date. Put uncertain releases on a watch list rather than letting them disrupt a near-term plan. Editorial schedules can help you discover games and see what is undated; confirm an important date on the game’s current storefront or publisher listing.

Steam’s Upcoming Releases page is a live storefront list, and its entries can include demos as well as full games. For example, on October 5, 2026, it showed entries dated October 4 and October 5. Treat a calendar entry as a lead to check, not a guarantee about the version or platform you want.

#1 Best Overall
GameStop Physical Gift Card
  • Redeemable at US GameStop, EB Games, Babbage's, Electronic Boutique, EBX, Planet X, and Software Etc. stores. Also redeemable online at and GameStop.com and EBGames.com.
  • Over 6,100 stores located throughout the United States.
  • GameStop. Power to the Players.
  • Redemption: Instore and Online
  • No returns and no refunds on gift cards.

For broader discovery, GamesRadar’s release calendar organizes known games by date and platform and separates games without known dates. Game Informer’s 2026 schedule says it is updated as dates, delays, and reveals change, and places games in a month only once a date is confirmed. Even regularly updated calendars can become stale, so revisit the relevant listing before launch.

Rank the games by your own priorities

Once the shortlist is feasible, choose by personal fit rather than hype, wishlists, or a presumed universal ranking. Compare candidates on the factors that matter to you:

Rank #2
Xbox Physical Gift Card
  • XBOX GIFT CARD: Buy full digital game downloads, game add-ons, in-game currency, memberships, devices, apps, movies, TV shows, and more.
  • DIGITAL GAMES: Choose from hundreds of games, from AAA to indie options. Start playing the moment your most anticipated game is available when you pre-order and pre-download it.
  • GAME AD-ONS: Extend the experience of your favorite games with add-ons and in-game currency.
  • MOVIES & TV SHOWS: Rent or buy new and popular movies and TV shows from a massive library.
  • PERFECT GIFT: Great as a gift for a friend or yourself. Xbox Gift Cards are easy to use, never expire, and give the freedom to pick the gift they want. Enjoy more ways to play without a credit card attached to your Microsoft account.
  • Excitement and genre: Which one are you genuinely looking forward to playing? A popular release is not automatically your best first pick.
  • Time: Does the kind of commitment you expect from the game fit the time you have? Decide whether you want a brief diversion or a longer-running activity. There is no universal playtime score or ranking formula established for this choice; use your own schedule.
  • People: If the appeal depends on playing with friends, check whether they expect to be available and whether everyone can play on supported platforms.
  • Cost and access: Compare the full purchase price with any subscription access that is explicitly confirmed for the game and platform you want.

Steam’s Personalized Calendar can help surface candidates that match your playing habits. Valve says its recommendations focus on games you play frequently and spend most of your playtime in. The calendar also includes games on your wishlist whether or not the system recommends them: “The calendar view also includes any game that you have already added to your wishlist, regardless of whether the system recommends it; you’ve already expressed interest in that game, and you likely want to know when it is coming out.” See Steam’s Personalized Calendar explanation. A wishlist records your interest; it does not certify that a game is good or that you should play it first.

Check subscription claims before counting on them

A subscription offer can change which option is easiest to try, but do not infer access from a service name or a console launch alone. A third-party Game Pass calendar cautions that a console launch does not establish that a PC build is included, and that cloud support should not be assumed from plan membership. Before relying on a subscription, check the official service and game listing for all of the following:

Make a queue, not a prediction

Pick one first choice and a small number of backups. Keep other candidates on a wishlist or release calendar, then revisit the queue when dates, platform details, reviews, subscription terms, or your available time change. This approach avoids treating an uncertain date as a commitment and leaves room for your priorities to shift.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
  • Redemption: Online
