How the PSVR2 controllers work with Steam Frame
Reddit user Severe-Status1302 described the project as a custom OpenVR driver. Rather than relying on a separate PC dongle, the controllers connect to Steam Frame over Bluetooth; the headset’s cameras track the infrared lights on the controllers. PC Guide reported on the demonstration on October 2, 2026, and said the modder had made tweaks and fine-tuned the setup. The modder characterized the result as working, but that is a personal report, not a controlled test.

Quest 3 controller support is not ready to treat as a release
The modder has also discussed Quest 3 controller support, but described that work as a “jank setup” involving keeping a Quest 3 active and piping necessary inputs to the Frame. PC Guide reported that the modder hoped to publish the project on GitHub, but the available reports do not establish a public build or installation guide. Treat Quest 3 compatibility as work in progress, not a finished feature.

What this means for official Steam Frame support
Valve’s published materials describe the native Steam Frame controller path. Its Steamworks input documentation explains how developers can bind to Frame controllers as an OpenVR controller type. Valve’s Steam Frame Verified presentation describes standalone VR testing against the Frame controllers, with a 90 FPS target for standalone VR titles.
Those documents do not document PSVR2 Sense or Quest 3 controller compatibility. The existence of a community driver should not be read as a Valve announcement or guarantee that either controller family will keep working across Steam Frame firmware or SteamVR updates.

Should you buy PSVR2 controllers for this?
Search for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers to find the hardware used in the demonstration. PC Guide reports that Sony’s controllers were available in a bundle with a charging station. A charging dock is a practical accessory if you already own the controllers or decide to use them with this setup, but the reports do not establish a tested purchasing recommendation.
There are important unknowns: the cited accounts provide no verified measurements of latency, tracking accuracy, battery life, or long-session reliability. Comfort, grip, haptics, adaptive triggers, software maturity, and installation requirements have not been compared in controlled testing. If you need a dependable setup today, the documented native Frame controller path is the safer choice; if you are comfortable with community software and troubleshooting, the PSVR2 demonstration is promising but may change with updates.
