Reports published October 5–6, 2026 say Sony is developing a live-action Ghostbusters film under the reported title Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street, with Josh Miller reportedly attached as writer. Sony has not confirmed the project in the sources reviewed. The title suggests a holiday connection, but a Christmas setting or story has not been established.
Is a new Ghostbusters movie coming out?
Entertainment reports attribute the development news to Daniel Richtman. That makes the film a reported project, not an announced Sony release: the reviewed sources contain no confirmation from Sony. The reported title and writer credit should be treated with the same caution.

What has been reported about the film?
- Project: A live-action Ghostbusters film is reportedly in development.
- Title: Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street is the reported title, not a confirmed final title.
- Writer: Josh Miller is named in entertainment coverage as the reported writer; Sony has not confirmed the credit in the sources reviewed.
Is Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street a Christmas movie?
That is not known. “34th Street” evokes the holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, and the title has prompted speculation about a Christmas angle. But the reports do not establish a holiday setting, Christmas genre, or plot. The title alone is not confirmation.
What has not been announced?
The reviewed reports do not establish a cast, director, release date, production schedule, or plot. Until Sony or the filmmakers provide details, those elements—and whether the reported title will stick—remain unknown.

Where the franchise stands
Sony’s official Ghostbusters site lists Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire as a 2024 release and provides current home-video options. Sony also lists a five-film collection on Blu-ray and DVD covering the released films through Frozen Empire. That collection is a way to catch up on the existing films; it does not include the reported project.
