The cover athlete is Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees outfielder. MLB’s January 27, 2026 announcement opens with the line “All rise for the second time,” which is the franchise’s way of marking that Judge is the only player besides Joe Mauer to appear on more than one cover. Mauer’s covers were for consecutive years, 2010 and 2011. Judge’s first cover was MLB The Show 18.

Judge is identified in the announcement as 2026 WBC captain. The WBC tournament returned to Diamond Dynasty as part of the game’s tie-in with the event, according to both MLB and PlayStation’s announcements.
Release dates and platforms
MLB The Show 26 launched on March 17, 2026. MLB lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch as the platforms. Buyers of the Digital Deluxe Edition had early access starting March 13, four days before the standard release. Both MLB and PlayStation describe this as the pre-release window, and it has now passed.

MLB’s announcement cites the following figures for Judge. They are MLB’s own claims and were not checked against an independent statistics database for this article:
- 53 home runs and a .331 batting average in 2025
- Three-time American League MVP, a title PlayStation’s announcement also gives
- Seven-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger
- 62 home runs, the American League single-season record
