Abelina is a surreal, hand-crafted adventure platformer planned for Windows PC on Steam in Q1 2027. A public demo is planned for November 2026. Developed by Gabe Askew and published by Indieformer, it replaces combat with climbing, jumping, route-finding, exploration, conversations and resource-gathering in a strange afterlife.
Abelina Steam release date and demo
Steam currently lists Abelina as unavailable and targeting Q1 2027, which identifies a release quarter rather than an exact day. The announcement also reports a public demo planned for November 2026. Both dates can change, so the Steam listing is the most direct place to check for updates: Abelina on Steam.

What kind of game is Abelina?
Abelina is an afterlife adventure built around traversal rather than fighting. Steam describes its premise as: “There is no combat, instead you explore a vast world and a mature story about carrying life’s baggage into the afterlife.” Nothing encountered can be fought; progress comes from learning how to move through increasingly demanding terrain.

- Crafted from a unique 40 singles tri-blend fabric, offering a lightweight, ultra-soft feel
- Classic crew neck design with side-seam construction ensures both comfort and a flattering silhouette
- Lighter colors are semi-sheer
Traversal is the central challenge
You climb, jump and select routes through branching landscapes. Paths can dead-end, while sealed passages may have alternate approaches. Terrain becomes more difficult the farther you travel from camp, making route planning and movement control more important than defeating enemies.
Exploration and timed interactions
The developer’s description also includes collecting resources and using timed hits to break open gourds. These interactions add a practical layer to the platforming without turning them into combat. The available SteamDB metadata categorizes the project with adventure, 3D platformer, exploration, atmospheric, dark fantasy, dark humor, mythology and nature tags: SteamDB metadata.

- Dual-Dimensional Gameplay: Control both 3D and 2D versions of yourself simultaneously. Your actions mirror across realities, but the rules don’t.
- Challenging Puzzles: Solve different puzzles that require shifting perspective, timing and logic across two planes of existence.
- Unlock New Tools and Skills: Unlock new abilities as you progress that give you even more ways to solve the puzzles
- Uncover the Story and Secrets: Explore offbeat areas and discover a unique story through environmental storytelling
- Dual Focus: Some objects, enemies, and platforms only exist in one world so stay alert!
Story: Vasily wakes in a primitive afterlife
Vasily has been dead for some time when he wakes in Abelina, a settlement inhabited by other after-lifers. The official description calls the setting “neither heaven nor hell” but “a primitive new world.” Residents tend gardens, carve masks and largely avoid confronting what their world means.
A tragedy drives Vasily toward the wilderness and frontier. Companions who were left behind eventually catch up at campfires, creating a conversational structure in which memory, purpose and unresolved history surface through the people he meets. The story therefore treats death as a continuation of personal burdens rather than a clean reset. The press kit summarizes the setup as: “Abelina is a hand-crafted afterlife adventure. You died, and you woke up in a strange world you’re only beginning to understand.”

A hand-crafted world with unusual wildlife
The visual identity is deliberately surreal and tactile. Lantern-like plants hang overhead, coral pools glow from below and some groves are illuminated by their own flora. The wilderness includes rabbit-cats, pale apes called komin, airplane-sized moths with star-like wings, phosphorescent goats and giant beetles large enough to ride.
These creatures support the game’s atmospheric and darkly humorous tone rather than an enemy roster. Since combat is absent, wildlife and terrain are part of the world to observe, navigate and understand.

- A single-player Windows PC game distributed through Steam.
- Traversal-focused progression with climbing, jumping, branching routes and increasingly demanding terrain away from camp.
- Exploration, conversations and environmental discovery in place of combat.
- Resource collection and timed interactions such as breaking open gourds.
- A mature story about memory, purpose and carrying unresolved baggage into an afterlife.
The project should be approached as a movement-and-discovery adventure, not an action game with non-lethal options. Its quarter-only release target, unannounced price and planned demo mean that some launch details remain open.
