Yes, you can move Pokémon from Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen into a newer compatible game—but not directly. The documented route is a chain of handoffs: GBA cartridge → a compatible Generation IV game’s Pal Park → Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 → Poké Transporter → Pokémon Bank → Pokémon HOME → an eligible newer game. Each handoff has different hardware, software, account, and compatibility requirements, and two of the moves are irreversible.
The complete transfer route at a glance
Your GBA cartridge is never read directly by Pokémon Bank, Pokémon HOME, or a current Nintendo Switch game. It must first be moved through older Pokémon games.

| 1. GBA to Generation IV | Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen; a Generation IV game; a Nintendo DS-family system with a GBA Game Pak slot | Use Pal Park to migrate selected Pokémon | In the Pokémon Platinum instructions, you need the National Pokédex; up to six Pokémon per GBA Game Pak can be migrated every 24 hours |
| 2. Generation IV to Generation V | A compatible Generation V game: Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 | Use the Generation V Poké Transfer facility | The exact unlock and menu wording can vary by version; check that game’s manual |
| 3. Generation V to Bank | Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank on a compatible Nintendo 3DS-family system | Poké Transporter sends supported Pokémon into Bank | A GBA cartridge cannot be selected as a Transporter source |
| 4. Bank to HOME | Pokémon HOME Premium; the correct Nintendo Account and, when applicable, Nintendo Network ID | Move boxes from Bank into HOME | The transfer is one-way; Pokémon cannot return to Bank |
| 5. HOME to a newer game | A game shown as eligible for that individual Pokémon | Move the Pokémon from HOME into the selected title | Not every Pokémon can travel to every connected game |
The Pokémon Bank service page currently states that Bank service and Bank-to-HOME transfers end on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Because that is a time-sensitive service notice, check the official Pokémon Bank page again before starting and finish the Bank-to-HOME step before the displayed cutoff.

Original games and compatible titles
- One of the five GBA games covered by the documented Pal Park procedure: Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, Pokémon Emerald, Pokémon FireRed, or Pokémon LeafGreen.
- A compatible Generation IV Pokémon game. The Pokémon Platinum Version manual specifically documents migration from all five of those GBA titles into Pokémon Platinum.
- Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black Version 2, or Pokémon White Version 2 for the Generation IV-to-V handoff and as the source for Poké Transporter.
Hardware
- A Nintendo DS-family system with a physical GBA Game Pak slot for the Pal Park step. The system must hold the Generation IV DS card and the GBA cartridge at the same time. A Nintendo DS Lite is an example of hardware with the required slot, but confirm the slot on the exact unit you own or buy.
- A compatible Nintendo 3DS-family system with Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter already accessible and installed for the documented service steps. Compatibility pages describe what the services support; they do not guarantee that every account can newly download the applications today. Verify your system and account status before buying other hardware.
- A device running Pokémon HOME. The Bank-to-HOME handoff can be initiated through HOME, with different instructions depending on whether you have access to a 3DS.
Accounts and subscription
- A paid Pokémon HOME Premium Plan is required to move Pokémon from Bank to HOME.
- If you use the no-3DS method, link the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank to the Nintendo Account used with HOME.
- A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required for the described Bank-to-HOME function, according to Pokémon Support.
Irreversible moves: decide what to send first
Do not treat this as a reversible backup process. When you confirm a Pal Park migration, the selected Pokémon disappear from the original GBA Game Pak and cannot be returned to it. Pokémon Support also states that Pokémon moved from Bank to HOME cannot be moved back to Bank. The final HOME-to-game move is governed by each Pokémon’s game compatibility, so check the destination before committing earlier handoffs.
#1 Best Overall
- The DS Lite system is a region free device, it can plays all Nintendo DS Lite games and Gameboy Advance Games
Make a written list of the Pokémon you intend to move, their current game, and your intended final title. Keep the original cartridges and saves safe until you have confirmed that the Pokémon reached the expected service or game.
Step 1: migrate from the GBA cartridge to Pal Park
The following procedure is the one documented in the Pokémon Platinum Version instruction manual. Other Generation IV games may use different labels or restrictions, so consult the manual for the exact title you are using.
- Complete the National Pokédex requirement. The Platinum manual requires obtaining the National Pokédex before migration is available.
- Power off and insert both games. Put the Generation IV game card in the Nintendo DS card slot and the GBA Game Pak in the system’s GBA slot.
- Start the Generation IV game. On the start menu, choose “Migrate From”.
- Select the eligible Pokémon. Choose up to six Pokémon from the GBA save for that migration period, then review the selection carefully.
- Confirm only when ready. The migration removes the selected Pokémon from the original GBA Game Pak. It is not a copy operation and cannot be undone on the GBA game.
- Restart and enter Pal Park. After restarting the Generation IV game, go to Pal Park and catch the migrated Pokémon there. Catching them completes their appearance in the Generation IV game.
Platinum’s limits and exclusions
- The Platinum manual allows a maximum of six Pokémon per GBA Game Pak in a 24-hour period. This figure belongs specifically to the Platinum instructions; do not assume it applies identically to every Generation IV title.
- Pokémon holding Mail cannot migrate under the Platinum procedure.
- Pokémon that know a hidden move cannot migrate under that procedure. Remove the disqualifying move or item in the GBA game before selecting the Pokémon.
- Because the GBA Pokémon leave their original save, resolve any team, item, or move-set decisions before confirmation.
Step 2: move from Generation IV into Black, White, Black 2, or White 2
Once the Pokémon are in the Generation IV game, continue through the Generation V in-game transfer facility. This is a game-to-game transfer, not a Bank operation.
- Use a compatible Generation V title: Black, White, Black Version 2, or White Version 2.
- Advance far enough in that game to unlock its Generation IV transfer feature and satisfy its National Pokédex requirement.
- Open the game’s Poké Transfer facility and connect the Generation IV title as instructed by the version-specific manual.
- Select the Pokémon to send, complete the transfer challenge or confirmation shown by the game, and verify that the Pokémon now appear in the Generation V save.
A scan of the official Pokémon Black manual identifies the Poké Transfer Lab on Route 15 and a National Pokédex requirement. Because menu wording and unlock details can differ between Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, use the manual for your exact version rather than assuming the Black instructions apply unchanged.
Step 3: send Generation V Pokémon through Poké Transporter to Bank
Nintendo’s compatibility list names Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black Version 2, and Pokémon White Version 2 as Poké Transporter source games. The GBA cartridge itself is not a Transporter source; it must already have passed through Pal Park and a Generation IV game, then into one of those Generation V titles.
- Confirm that the Pokémon you want to send are in one of the four supported Generation V games.
- Open Poké Transporter on the compatible 3DS-family system and select the supported Generation V game when prompted.
- Choose the Pokémon or boxes that Transporter permits, then send them to Pokémon Bank.
- Open Pokémon Bank and verify that the transferred Pokémon are present before proceeding.
Nintendo’s compatibility information also lists Bank support for Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Pokémon Ultra Moon, as well as Pokémon HOME. That list describes supported software, not guaranteed present-day download access. If Bank or Transporter is not already available on your system, check your account and console status before relying on this route.
Rank #3
- DS Lite doesn't just play DS games – it also features an additional port for Game Boy Advance Game Paks
- Get up to 19 hours continuous gameplay on one charge
- Ready to take on the world? With Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you can connect wirelessly, chat with friends while you play and compete with Nintendo DS owners across the globe. All you need to play is a Nintendo DS and a Wi-Fi-ready game
- Twin ultra bright LCD screens that combine crisp, punchy colors, along with touch-screen technology on the lower screen
- Powerful dual processors bring 3D graphics to life with lightning-fast rendering
Step 4: move from Bank to Pokémon HOME
Pokémon Support requires a paid HOME Premium Plan for this handoff. There are two documented ways to start it.
Using a 3DS to enter a Moving Key
- On the 3DS, open Pokémon Bank and select the boxes you want to move.
- On the device running Pokémon HOME, choose the option to begin a move from Pokémon Bank.
- HOME displays a temporary Moving Key.
- Enter that key in Pokémon Bank before it expires. Pokémon Support says the key is valid for three minutes.
- Wait for the transfer to complete, then check HOME’s boxes.
Keep both devices ready before generating the key. If it expires, start the process again and use the newly displayed key.
Starting the move without a 3DS
- Link the Nintendo Network ID used with Pokémon Bank to the Nintendo Account used with Pokémon HOME.
- In HOME, initiate the Bank transfer using the account-linked option.
- Follow HOME’s confirmation screens to authorize the move.
Pokémon Support says this no-3DS option moves all Pokémon in Bank at once. It is therefore especially important to clear out anything you do not want in HOME before confirming. The Bank-to-HOME transfer cannot be reversed, and the Pokémon cannot be sent back to a 3DS game through Bank.

Step 5: check whether HOME can send each Pokémon to the new release
Arrival in HOME does not make a Pokémon usable in every newer title. Compatibility is checked per Pokémon and per destination game.
- In the Pokémon HOME mobile app, open the Pokémon and inspect “Games it can travel to.”
- Alternatively, use the connected-games view in HOME on Nintendo Switch.
- Identify the exact newer game you want to use and confirm that it is shown as available.
- If a game is grayed out, do not promise that the Pokémon can enter it. Leave the Pokémon in HOME or choose an eligible connected title.
Check this before planning a competitive team, story playthrough, or trade around a particular game. A species may be present in HOME while still being unavailable in the specific release you selected.

Troubleshooting by symptom
“Migrate From” is missing
- Confirm that the Generation IV game is in the DS card slot and the GBA Game Pak is in the GBA slot.
- Check that the system actually has a GBA Game Pak slot.
- Verify that the National Pokédex requirement has been met.
- Consult the manual for the exact Generation IV title; the documented menu wording is from Pokémon Platinum.
A selected GBA Pokémon cannot migrate
- Remove Mail from the Pokémon.
- Replace any hidden move that the Platinum procedure rejects.
- Check that you have not exceeded Platinum’s six-Pokémon, 24-hour allowance.
The Pokémon is not available in Poké Transporter
- Transporter accepts the supported Generation V games, not a GBA cartridge.
- Finish the Generation IV-to-V transfer first and confirm the Pokémon is saved in Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
- Verify that the title is one of the four versions named by Nintendo’s compatibility list.
The Bank-to-HOME transfer will not start
- Confirm that HOME has a paid Premium Plan.
- If using the 3DS method, generate a new Moving Key and enter it within three minutes.
- If using the no-3DS method, check that the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank and the Nintendo Account used with HOME are linked as required.
- Check whether Bank and Transporter are already accessible on your system; compatibility documentation does not guarantee new downloads for every user.
The Pokémon reached HOME but cannot enter the target game
Open “Games it can travel to” in the mobile app or the connected-games view on Switch. A grayed-out destination means that Pokémon cannot be used there. Select another eligible game or keep it in HOME.
Quick Recap
Pre-transfer checklist
- Write down the Pokémon you intend to move and the final game you want to use.
- Confirm the GBA title is Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen.
- Confirm the DS-family system has a GBA Game Pak slot.
- Complete the relevant National Pokédex requirement before attempting Pal Park or Poké Transfer.
- Remove Mail and hidden moves that block the Platinum migration procedure.
- Remember that Pal Park removes Pokémon from the GBA save.
- Confirm the Generation V title is Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
- Verify Bank and Poké Transporter access before relying on the service chain.
- Have HOME Premium and the correct account linkage ready.
- Check destination eligibility in HOME before treating the transfer as complete.
- Plan to finish Bank-to-HOME migration before February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST, and recheck the official service notice first.
