accuimr5.dll is a legacy third-party imaging DLL from AccuSoft Image Format Library/Windows NT, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows reports that accuimr5.dll is missing, the safest fix is to identify the old application that needs it and repair or reinstall that application.
Do not begin by downloading the DLL and placing it in System32 or SysWOW64. That can install the wrong build, introduce malware, or leave the application’s other missing files unrepaired.

What accuimr5.dll belongs to
The file is described as the AccuSoft Image Format Library/Windows NT DLL, developed by AccuSoft Corporation. It was used by older Windows programs that needed to read or process image formats.
The filename alone cannot identify the exact application on your computer. Public software inventories have associated AccuSoft imaging components with older products including Golden Software Grapher 5 and Quartz PCI, and with software used for some Roland engraving equipment. Those examples do not prove that one of those programs is installed on your PC.

Reported metadata describes accuimr5.dll as a Win32, or 32-bit, DLL. That information comes from third-party file records rather than a current vendor file list. A 32-bit application can require a 32-bit DLL even when it runs on 64-bit Windows.
This is not a Windows component. It should normally be beside the application that uses it, rather than in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Fix 1: Identify the application and repair it
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
This is the most likely solution because the file ships with a specific application. Repairing that application’s complete installation restores the correct DLL, companion files, configuration, and application-specific search paths.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse the error window
Read the title bar and the text around the error. Look for:
- The program name
- An executable name ending in
.exe - A folder path
- A shortcut name
- A publisher name
If the message appears immediately after opening a shortcut, right-click that shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target. The executable path usually identifies the dependent application.
If the error appears when opening a document, image, engineering file, or game, note which program was supposed to open it.
Search installed applications
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for the program named in the error or shortcut.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If there is no Repair button:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall/Change, depending on what the installer provides.
- Select the repair option and complete the wizard.
A successful repair should let the original program start without the accuimr5.dll message. It may also recreate the DLL in the application’s own folder.

If repair fails, uninstall the application and reinstall it from one of these sources:
- The application’s original installer
- The original installation media
- A trusted installer retained by your organization
- The application’s official vendor download or launcher
Before uninstalling, back up application data, templates, license files, and user-created documents. Some old programs store data in their installation directory, so do not delete that folder until you have checked its contents.
During setup, install the program to its intended location. Do not copy only accuimr5.dll from another computer. The DLL may need a matching set of AccuSoft files, configuration files, licensing components, or a particular application build.
If the program is distributed through a game launcher, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair function before trying external fixes.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the DLL
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Security software may remove an old DLL if it is damaged, unsigned, unusual, or detected by a rule. A quarantine event is especially likely if the error began after a scan or Windows security update.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries.
- Open any entry that mentions the affected application or
accuimr5.dll. - Check the detected file path and detection details.
Do not restore the file merely because its name matches the error. First verify that:
- The path belongs to the known application.
- The application came from a trustworthy original source.
- The detection is not associated with a modified or unofficial installer.
If the application and installer are trustworthy, use Actions and then Restore only when Windows Security offers that option. Reinstalling the complete application from clean original media is usually safer than restoring a file from an uncertain location.
After restoring or reinstalling, open the program again. If Windows Security quarantines the file again, do not repeatedly restore it. Run a full scan and obtain a fresh installer from the original software vendor.
Fix 3: Check the application folder and its architecture
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This fix helps distinguish a missing file from a broken application path.
- Right-click the application’s shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, copy or note the path shown in Target.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the folder containing the executable.
- Check whether
accuimr5.dllis present beside the executable or in a documented application subfolder.
If the DLL is present but the program still reports that it cannot be loaded, the problem may be a missing dependency rather than an absent accuimr5.dll.
The message “The specified module could not be found” is ambiguous. It can mean either:

Consider 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
The reported file is a Win32 DLL. That normally means it is intended for a 32-bit application. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit programs are commonly installed under:
C:Program Files (x86)
A 32-bit application should use the dependency supplied with its own installer. Do not replace it with a 64-bit file, and do not assume that C:WindowsSysWOW64 is a general-purpose location for manually copied DLLs.
If the old installer itself will not run, right-click the installer, select Properties, open the Compatibility tab, select Run this program in compatibility mode for, choose an appropriate older Windows version, and select Apply. You can also select Run this program as an administrator when the installer requires elevated access.
Compatibility mode does not repair a missing DLL by itself. It only helps the old installer or application run under newer Windows behavior.

Fix 4: Install a runtime only when the application requires it
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable as the first response to this error. There is no reliable evidence that this particular DLL requires one specific Visual C++ package.
If the original application’s documentation or installer identifies a Microsoft runtime prerequisite, install the package it specifies. For a 32-bit application, the x86 runtime may be required even on 64-bit Windows. Do not infer the required runtime from the DLL filename alone.
After installing the documented prerequisite:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the original application.
- If the same error remains, repair or reinstall the application.
- If the message changes to a different missing component, record that component and follow the application’s documentation.
Do not install unrelated DirectX, .NET, driver, or runtime packages simply because a DLL error appears.
Fix 5: Enable an old Windows feature only if the program documents it
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Some legacy applications require an optional Windows component, but accuimr5.dll itself does not prove that any particular feature is needed.
To review optional Windows features:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the list.
- Enable a feature only if the application’s installer or documentation specifically requires it.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Test the application.
Do not enable random features to resolve this DLL message. If the old program requires .NET Framework 3.5, for example, the application documentation or installer should identify that requirement.
Very old software may use installation technology that cannot run natively on 64-bit Windows. In that case, compatibility mode may not be enough. A properly licensed virtual machine with an older supported Windows environment can be more reliable than modifying the current system.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
Because accuimr5.dll is a third-party application DLL, Windows component repair normally will not restore it. Use these commands when other Windows files are also failing, Windows features are damaged, or several unrelated applications have begun showing system errors.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the original application.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns accuimr5.dll.
Recommended Free Tools
If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft documents using a matching repair source with /Source and /LimitAccess. Use a repair source that matches the installed Windows edition and build rather than guessing at a path.
Repeating SFC without checking what changed usually does not help. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds, while the repair action requires the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for this app-specific DLL.
Fix 7: Update the application and, only when relevant, its drivers
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
An application update may replace an incompatible legacy component, but update the application only through its official installer, vendor, or launcher.
Drivers are not the usual cause of accuimr5.dll errors. Consider them only when the program communicates with specialized hardware, such as a scanner, capture device, printer, engraving machine, or controller, and the failure began after a hardware or Windows change.

- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if an update is installed.
- Test the original application.
If the failure began immediately after a driver update, open the same Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver if available.
Do not replace a working hardware driver with an unrelated package just to address this DLL. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify versions, while installation through the full version is optional; for this error, repairing the original application still comes first.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent system change
Time needed: 20–60 minutes
Use System Restore when the application worked recently and the error started after a driver installation, Windows change, application update, or other system modification.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not register or download accuimr5.dll blindly
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that accuimr5.dll is an ActiveX or COM server that needs registration.
Do not run this as a generic fix:
regsvr32 accuimr5.dll
For a normal runtime or image-processing DLL, registration does not recreate missing companion files or repair the application’s search path. It may simply produce another error.
Avoid random DLL download websites as well. A downloaded copy may be:
- The wrong version
- The wrong architecture
- Missing its own dependencies
- Modified or malicious
- Incompatible with the application’s other files
Never place an unverified copy in System32, SysWOW64, or a program folder. The safe source is the original application’s installer, official update channel, original media, or trusted vendor support.
Common error messages and what they mean
| Message | Likely meaning | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| “accuimr5.dll was not found” | The application cannot find the DLL in its expected search path | Repair or reinstall the application |
| “The file accuimr5.dll is missing or corrupted” | The file is absent, damaged, or rejected | Check quarantine, then reinstall the application |
| “A required component is missing: accuimr5.dll” | The application installation is incomplete | Use the application’s repair or reinstall option |
| “Error loading accuimr5.dll. The specified module could not be found” | The DLL or one of its dependencies may be missing | Reinstall the complete application |
| “The program can’t start because accuimr5.dll is missing” | Windows failed during application startup | Identify the executable and repair its installation |
| “accuimr5.dll could not be located” | The application cannot resolve the DLL’s path | Check whether the program was moved or copied |
| “accuimr5.dll Access Violation” | The program or a component encountered an invalid memory access | Reinstall the matching application build and check compatibility |
These message variants are commonly reported by third-party file databases. They are not proof that Microsoft or Accusoft uses one official wording.
Causes near the end: why this started happening
The most common causes are:
- The old application’s installation was incomplete.
- Someone moved or copied the program folder without its companion files.
- Antivirus software quarantined the DLL.
- A backup restored the executable but not all supporting files.
- Disk cleanup removed an old application component.
- A failed application update left mixed versions behind.
- A 32-bit application was given an incompatible dependency.
- The application depends on another missing module.
- A Windows, driver, or hardware change disrupted an old program.
- The disk or system has corruption affecting multiple files.
The timing is useful. If the error appeared after reinstalling the application, repeat the installation from clean original media. If it appeared after an upgrade, try compatibility settings and check for a newer application build. If it appeared after antivirus activity, inspect Protection History. If several unrelated files are disappearing, run a full security scan and check disk health.
If reinstalling does not work
Work through this escalation list:
- Confirm the exact executable that produces the error.
- Check the executable’s folder for
accuimr5.dll. - Check Windows Security Protection History.
- Confirm that the installer matches the application’s architecture.
- Install the application’s documented prerequisites.
- Test the program with compatibility settings.
- Run DISM and SFC if Windows itself shows other failures.
- Check Event Viewer for application error details.
- Contact the original software vendor or the organization that supplied the program.
- Contact Accusoft only for legacy-library guidance when the original application vendor cannot help.
If the original vendor is unavailable and the application is essential, use a supported compatibility environment or virtual machine under the software’s license. Keep old software isolated from current work where practical, and do not weaken Windows security merely to make an untrusted DLL load.

Is accuimr5.dll a Microsoft file?
No. It is associated with AccuSoft Image Format Library/Windows NT and should be treated as an application dependency, not a Windows system file.
Which application installed it?
The filename alone cannot determine that. Use the error window, shortcut target, application folder, recent uninstall history, and antivirus quarantine path to identify the dependent program.
Is accuimr5.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public file metadata reports it as a Win32, or 32-bit, DLL. Treat that as reported legacy metadata rather than a current vendor-verified build detail. The application’s matching installer is the correct source.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. Copying it into a Windows folder can create conflicts and does not restore the application’s other files or dependencies.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I run regsvr32?
Usually no. There is no verified evidence that this DLL requires COM registration. Use regsvr32 only when the original application vendor explicitly instructs you to do so.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix the error?
Only if the application’s documentation identifies it as a prerequisite. There is no reliable evidence that one particular Visual C++ package is required by accuimr5.dll itself.
Can SFC restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while accuimr5.dll is an application DLL. Repair or reinstall the owning application first.
What if the DLL exists but Windows still says it is missing?
The loader may be unable to find one of accuimr5.dll‘s dependencies. Reinstall the complete application and its documented prerequisites instead of replacing only the visible DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIs the file malware?
The filename alone cannot establish that. Check its directory, the parent application, digital-signature information where available, and antivirus findings. A legitimate old DLL can exist outside Windows folders, while an altered copy can be unsafe anywhere.
What is the correct fix in most cases?
Identify the old program that raised the error and repair or reinstall that program from its original, trusted source. That restores the compatible DLL and the rest of the dependency chain together.
