w32n50.dll is a 32-bit third-party networking DLL from PCAUSA Rawether for Windows, not a normal Windows component. When it is missing or will not load, the safest fix is usually to repair or remove the old wireless-adapter utility that needs it, rather than downloading the DLL by itself.
What this file actually does
The file’s internal description is “WinDis 32 API & Platform Compatibility DLL.” It was produced by Printing Communications Assoc., Inc. as part of PCAUSA Rawether for Windows, an older NDIS networking framework.

Rawether was used by wireless-adapter configuration programs, WLAN monitoring tools and network-control utilities. Historical driver packages for wireless hardware included W32N50.dll alongside a network driver and monitoring software. The exact parent program cannot be identified from the filename alone.

A dialog may show errors such as:
- “The application failed to start because w32n50.dll was not found.”
- “The program can’t start because w32n50.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading w32n50.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because w32n50.dll was not found.”
- “w32n50.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point … was not found in the dynamic link library w32n50.dll.”
The identified file is 32-bit. That matters even on 64-bit Windows: a 32-bit application needs a compatible 32-bit copy in the location expected by its installer. Copying an unrelated file into System32 or SysWOW64 is not a safe substitute for reinstalling the parent program.

w32n50.dll is not supplied as a normal Windows component by Windows Update, Visual C++, DirectX or .NET. It should be treated as an application dependency belonging to a legacy wireless or network utility.
Causes and symptoms
| Symptom or recent change | Most likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| The error names an old WLAN monitor or adapter tool | Incomplete or damaged utility installation | Repair or reinstall the complete OEM package |
| The adapter utility was recently removed | A startup entry or scheduled component remains | Uninstall the remaining program or disable its startup item |
| The file disappeared after antivirus activity | Quarantine or a detection involving the old file | Check Protection history and verify the original path |
| The problem began after replacing an adapter | The old utility is still loading, or the new adapter uses different software | Remove the old utility and install software for the new model |
| The program reports a bad image or entry-point error | Wrong version, damaged file or incompatible old component | Reinstall the exact utility package |
| Windows itself has several corrupted files | Broader Windows component damage | Run DISM and SFC after addressing the parent application |
| The installer or driver cannot work on the current system | Legacy NDIS incompatibility | Use a supported driver, replace the utility or remove the obsolete hardware |
Fix 1: Identify the program that needs w32n50.dll
Do this before replacing anything. The executable named in the error is often more useful than the DLL filename.
Check the error dialog
Look for wording such as:
WlanMonitor.exeMonitorBK.exe- A vendor-specific wireless executable
- An application path under a hardware manufacturer’s folder
Write down the executable name and its full path if the dialog provides one. If the dialog only says that Windows cannot start a program, continue with the checks below.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on some Windows 10 builds.
- Search for terms such as WLAN, Wireless, Wi-Fi, Network Monitor, Adapter Utility, or the adapter manufacturer’s name.
- Select the application’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
For an older desktop program:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the wireless or network utility.
- Choose Repair or Change if the installer provides that option.
A successful repair should allow the named utility to open without the DLL message. If the repair option is unavailable or fails, use the complete driver and utility package in the next section.
Check the startup entry
A removed utility can leave a startup command that continues trying to launch its executable.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a wireless monitor, adapter utility or unknown entry matching the executable named in the error.
- Right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup item stops the repeated error but does not repair the software. If the utility is no longer needed, uninstall it from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
You can also inspect the startup folder:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
shell:startup. - Press Enter.
- Remove only a shortcut that clearly belongs to the obsolete wireless utility.
Do not delete a DLL while the associated program remains installed. That can turn an intermittent startup problem into a consistently broken installation.

Find the adapter model
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Record the exact wireless adapter name.
- Also check Other devices for an unknown network controller.
- Right-click the adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Select Hardware Ids from the Property list.
- Record the first hardware ID if the model is unclear.
Use that information on the PC or adapter manufacturer’s official support page. Prefer the complete driver and utility package supplied for the model. Avoid a generic DLL archive or a driver package intended for a different adapter.
Remove the damaged legacy package
If the manufacturer provides an uninstall utility, use it first:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the old wireless monitor or adapter utility.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
If the package is listed in Control Panel:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the relevant utility.
- Choose Uninstall or Change.
- Restart the computer.
Do not select Delete the driver software for this device in Device Manager unless you have the correct replacement package ready or the manufacturer specifically instructs you to do so.

- Close running wireless configuration programs.
- Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the manufacturer’s setup instructions.
- Install the driver and the utility together if both are offered.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the utility named in the original error.
- Test wireless networking and any required monitoring or configuration features.
If the utility now opens and the adapter works, the repair is complete. If Windows can connect normally but the old monitor still fails, the utility may be obsolete even though the driver works. In that situation, uninstall the monitoring program and use Windows network management.
Manually hunting through several manufacturer pages and matching old driver versions can be time-consuming, especially after an adapter replacement. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and identify available driver installs; its full-version repair is optional, and the exact manufacturer package remains the definitive choice for this legacy application.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
An antivirus event does not automatically prove that w32n50.dll is malicious or safe. Evaluate the file using its original installation path, installer and publisher information.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined or blocked items.
- Expand an entry related to the wireless utility or
w32n50.dll. - Note the original file path and detection details.
- Confirm that the path belongs to the expected manufacturer’s installation.
If the file came from a trusted original installer and the path matches the installed application, reinstalling the complete package is safer than restoring a loose file. If you must restore a quarantined item, use Allow on device only after verifying its provenance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMicrosoft warns that a restored file may be detected again. Do not disable antivirus merely to obtain a DLL from an untrusted source. If the file is in an unexpected temporary folder, a user profile directory, or a location unrelated to the wireless utility, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
Fix 4: Remove an obsolete utility instead of restoring it
Modern Windows can manage many wireless connections without the old vendor monitor. If the adapter’s supported driver is installed and Wi-Fi works, the legacy utility may no longer be necessary.

- Restart Windows.
- Open Settings > Network & internet.
- Confirm that Wi-Fi or Ethernet works normally.

Fix 5: Reinstall or update the driver through Device Manager
Device Manager can help determine whether Windows still recognizes the hardware, but it may not restore the legacy monitoring utility.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
If the adapter is malfunctioning:
- Right-click the adapter in Device Manager.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Do not select driver deletion unless the manufacturer’s instructions require it.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the manufacturer’s complete package.
If the adapter is not listed, select View > Show hidden devices. Check Other devices for an unknown network controller. A missing device, warning icon or repeated driver failure points to a hardware or driver problem rather than a missing DLL alone.
Windows Features are not the normal source of w32n50.dll. Do not enable random legacy components in Control Panel > Turn Windows features on or off to manufacture this file. Enable a Windows feature only when a separate application specifically requires that feature and its documentation identifies it.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows has broader problems
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They are not a reliable way to recreate a third-party Rawether DLL.
Use them when you also see damaged Windows features, repeated system-file errors, failed updates or several unrelated built-in programs refusing to run.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and retest. If it reports that it could not repair everything, review the broader Windows symptoms and run the commands again only as Microsoft’s repair guidance recommends. If the DLL error remains but Windows itself is healthy, return to the parent utility and its manufacturer package.

System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after installing a driver, removing software or applying a system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove recently installed drivers and applications. Afterward, reinstall only the correct manufacturer package. Microsoft’s recovery guidance describes when System Restore is appropriate and what it changes.
Why random DLL downloads and regsvr32 are poor fixes
Do not download w32n50.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
That approach can fail because:
- The file may contain malware or tampered code.
- It may be the wrong 32-bit version.
- It may not match the application’s other Rawether components.
- The missing dependency may actually be a different module.
- The parent driver, service and registry configuration remain absent.
- A copy in a system directory can create DLL search-order and version conflicts.
The correct location is determined by the original installer. Historical packages sometimes placed this type of file in an application or Windows directory, but that does not make system-wide copying correct for every release. Microsoft documents the DLL search order and the security risks of unsafe DLL loading.
regsvr32 is also generally not applicable. It is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer or DllInstall, commonly for COM or ActiveX components. There is no reliable indication that this Rawether compatibility DLL is a self-registering component. Running:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →regsvr32 w32n50.dll
will commonly produce an entry-point error and will not install the wireless driver or repair the parent utility.
If the error says “specified module could not be found”
That wording does not always mean that w32n50.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Check the following:
- Confirm the application’s installation folder still exists.
- Reinstall the complete application package.
- Check whether the adapter driver is present in Device Manager.
- Look for a recent antivirus quarantine event.
- Confirm that the program is compatible with the current Windows version.
- Avoid mixing files from different driver packages.
A clean reinstall is more dependable than guessing which dependency is missing.

Final decision tree
- The error names a WLAN monitor or adapter utility, and the hardware is still in use: repair or reinstall the complete manufacturer package.
- The utility was removed, but its startup error remains: uninstall the remaining entry or disable its startup item.
- The adapter works with Windows, but the old utility does not: remove the obsolete utility and keep the supported driver.
- The file was quarantined: verify its original path and installer provenance, then reinstall from trusted manufacturer media.
- Device Manager shows a warning or missing adapter: repair the driver or hardware installation first.
- Several Windows components are also damaged: run DISM followed by SFC.
- The problem started after a recent change: consider System Restore.
- The installer fails on modern Windows: stop copying DLLs and consider a supported driver, replacement hardware or removal of the legacy utility.
