acdorderres.dll is an Autodesk resource DLL used by AutoCAD-based products, not a Windows system file. If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the affected Autodesk product instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
acdorderres.dll is identified as Draw Order Resource DLL and belongs to the DORDERRES Resource DLL component developed by Autodesk. Its role is associated with AutoCAD draw-order functionality, including operations handled by AutoCAD’s draw-order tools.

The file has appeared in inventories for older AutoCAD releases and Autodesk language packs. That does not mean every AutoCAD version installs it, or that one copy works with every Autodesk product. Separate AutoCAD releases and language packs can use separate program directories and matching resource files.
The file normally belongs inside the Autodesk installation directory. It may also appear beneath a language directory such as en-US or es-ES. It should not normally be placed in:

The filename alone does not reliably tell you whether a particular copy is 32-bit or 64-bit. Public file listings disagree about its architecture, so use the copy supplied with the exact Autodesk product rather than trusting a download page’s version, size, checksum, or bitness.
What the error usually means
The exact wording varies by Windows version and by the Autodesk executable that attempted to load the file. Reported variants include:
- “The program can’t start because acdorderres.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because acdorderres.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading acdorderres.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load acdorderres.dll.”
These are reported error variants, not a single officially catalogued Autodesk message. In practice, the problem usually means that an Autodesk installation is incomplete, damaged, using the wrong language resources, or unable to load a dependency.

| Symptom | Likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| The error began after installing AutoCAD | Incomplete installation | Update, then repair or reinstall AutoCAD |
| The error appeared after an update | Damaged or interrupted update | Restart, check Autodesk updates, then reinstall if needed |
| Only a language-specific installation fails | Missing or mismatched language pack | Reinstall the matching language pack |
| The file exists but Windows still says “module not found” | A dependency cannot load | Repair the Autodesk installation and inspect installation logs |
| Antivirus recently quarantined the file | Security software intervention | Review quarantine, then reinstall from Autodesk if uncertain |
| Several Windows programs also fail | Broader Windows corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Only one Windows account is affected | Profile-specific Autodesk settings | Test a new profile or reset Autodesk user settings |
| The problem remains after multiple repairs | Failed uninstall or residual files | Back up settings and perform a clean Autodesk uninstall |
First, identify the affected Autodesk installation
Before changing files, determine which program is producing the error.
- Close AutoCAD and every other Autodesk application.
- Write down the exact application name shown in the error or shortcut.
- Right-click the application shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, note the Target path.
- Check whether the target points to AutoCAD, an AutoCAD-based application, or a language-specific installation.
- Open File Explorer and inspect the application’s installation directory.
- Search that directory for
acdorderres.dll.
If the file exists in the correct Autodesk directory, do not copy another file over it. The error may mean that Windows cannot load a dependency required by that resource module. If the file is absent, continue with the repair path below.
Avoid moving the file into the application directory from another Autodesk release. Multiple installed versions may have different resource layouts, and a file from one release or language pack may not match the executable loading it.
Fix 1: Update Autodesk, then use Repair or Reinstall
This is the safest and most likely solution because the file belongs to the Autodesk application.

Install available updates
- Save your drawings and close AutoCAD.
- Open the Start menu.
- Select Autodesk > Autodesk Access.
- Sign in if prompted.
- Install available updates for the affected Autodesk product.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch AutoCAD again.
If Autodesk Access does not list the affected product, use your Autodesk Account and open All Products and Services to locate the matching product installer. Do not choose a different language or a different major release merely because it is available.

Repair AutoCAD 2021 and earlier
For AutoCAD releases using the older installer workflow:
- Press
Windowsand type Control Panel. - Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs and then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected AutoCAD installation.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Repair when the Autodesk maintenance window appears.
- Follow the prompts to restore missing or damaged files.
- Restart Windows.
- Test AutoCAD.
Repair should preserve the existing installation while restoring product files. If Repair completes but the error remains, repeat the process and select Reinstall instead. Reinstall replaces the product files more thoroughly and can fix damage that Repair does not correct.
Reinstall AutoCAD 2022 and later
Newer Autodesk installation workflows may not provide the old Repair option. In that case:

Windows + I. - Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps or Apps & features, depending on your Windows version.
- Find the affected Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the Autodesk removal prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in to Autodesk Account and open All Products and Services, or use Autodesk Access.
- Download the installer for the exact product and language.
- Run the installer and complete setup.
- Restart Windows once more.
- Launch the application and test the operation that previously failed.
If the product does not uninstall normally, do not start deleting random Autodesk folders. Back up customizations, templates, profiles, and workspace settings first, then use Autodesk’s clean-uninstall procedure before installing again.
Fix 2: Check the language pack and installation path
A language pack can contain resource files that are separate from the main program files. If the error began after changing the AutoCAD language, installing a language pack, or repairing only the main product, the matching resource component may be incomplete.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for the Autodesk product and its language pack.
- Confirm that the language you launch matches the language pack installed.
- If the language pack is listed, uninstall it.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the same language pack from the Autodesk installer for the matching product release.
- Launch AutoCAD using the intended language shortcut.
Do not copy acdorderres.dll from an en-US directory into an es-ES directory, or the reverse. A resource DLL can contain language-specific resources, and the file may also be tied to a particular product release.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine an application file after an update or installation change. This is only one possible cause, so do not assume the file was removed by antivirus without checking its history.

Fix 4: Check whether the file is present but a dependency is missing
Windows can report “specified module could not be found” even when the named DLL exists. The missing item may be a dependency that Windows needs while loading the Autodesk module.
Start with the Autodesk repair or reinstall process rather than trying to identify individual dependency files by downloading them. Also check the following:
- Confirm that the file is inside the correct Autodesk installation directory.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if one is present.
- Compare the location with the path used by the AutoCAD shortcut.
- Review Autodesk installation logs for the failed component.
- Check whether the error affects every Windows account or only one.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; it is not a general-purpose missing-DLL repair command. A resource DLL is normally restored by the application installer, not registered manually.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 5: Test for a damaged Windows user profile
If acdorderres.dll exists in the correct location and AutoCAD works for another account, the installation may be healthy while the original Windows profile has damaged Autodesk settings.
To test this:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a local test account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Launch AutoCAD and test the same operation.
If AutoCAD works in the new profile, reset or rebuild the Autodesk user settings in the original account. Back up custom profiles and customizations first. A working test account is evidence against immediately performing a destructive clean uninstall.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker are secondary checks here. acdorderres.dll is an Autodesk file, not a protected Windows component, so these commands will not normally restore it. They are useful when other Windows applications also fail or when the problem began after broader system corruption.
Run DISM first, then SFC.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test AutoCAD again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses. SFC then checks protected Windows files and replaces corrupted copies when possible. If either command reports that it could not complete, restart Windows and run the failed command again from an elevated Command Prompt. If both complete successfully but AutoCAD still reports the same file, return to Autodesk repair or reinstall.

Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it found; its repair function requires the full version. Fix 7: Consider graphics and other drivers only when symptoms support it
A driver update is not the normal fix for acdorderres.dll. Do not use Device Manager merely because the error names a DLL. Check drivers when AutoCAD also crashes during display operations, Windows recently changed hardware support, or Device Manager shows a warning icon.

- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and status.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If Windows finds nothing, use the computer or graphics hardware manufacturer’s official support channel. Do not replace acdorderres.dll with a graphics DLL, and do not install a driver solely to address a missing Autodesk resource file.
Manually hunting through driver releases can mean guessing which of several components is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates, while installation through the full version is optional; use it only when the symptoms point to a driver problem, because the Autodesk reinstall remains the correct fix for this DLL.

Fix 8: Use System Restore for a recent system change
System Restore can help if AutoCAD worked recently and the error began immediately after a software installation, update, or system change. It does not remove personal documents, but it can remove applications and drivers installed after the selected restore point.
- Press
Windows + R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press
Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the applications and drivers that may be removed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
- Test AutoCAD.
If no suitable restore point exists, use Autodesk’s installer instead. System Restore is not a substitute for restoring a missing product file from the original Autodesk installation.
Why downloading the DLL separately is unsafe
Do not download acdorderres.dll from a random DLL index or copy it into System32. A standalone file may have:
- The wrong AutoCAD release
- The wrong language
- The wrong architecture
- Different dependencies
- No trustworthy provenance
- A modified or malicious payload
Even a genuine file can fail if the application expects a matching set of Autodesk resources. It can also hide the real problem, such as an incomplete installation or a failed language pack.
The safe sources are the affected product’s original Autodesk installer, Autodesk Account, Autodesk Access, trusted original installation media, or a verified backup of that exact installation. Manual copying is appropriate only for an administrator restoring a verified matching file from the same product media or backup.
Should you repair Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Usually not for this specific error. acdorderres.dll is an Autodesk resource DLL, not a Microsoft runtime DLL.
Repair a Microsoft runtime only if the error specifically identifies that runtime, another diagnostic identifies a missing dependency, or the Autodesk installer requires it. Installing unrelated runtime packages and copying their DLLs into the Autodesk directory can create additional version conflicts.

Frequently asked questions
Is acdorderres.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an Autodesk file associated with the DORDERRES Resource DLL component and AutoCAD-based software. It should not normally be stored in the Windows system directories.
Which program installs it?
Evidence places it in AutoCAD-related installations, including older AutoCAD releases and an AutoCAD language-pack inventory. The exact product, language, path, version, size, and architecture depend on the installation.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Do not assume. Public catalogs conflict on its architecture. Match the file to the exact Autodesk executable and installer rather than relying on a download listing.
Can I copy it from another computer?
Only if the other computer has the identical Autodesk product release, language, architecture, and installation state, and you can verify the file’s origin. Reinstalling from Autodesk is safer and usually more complete.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
No. A resource DLL is normally restored by the Autodesk installer. regsvr32 is not a general missing-DLL repair tool.
Will Microsoft Visual C++ fix the error?
Not directly. This is an Autodesk resource file. Repair the Autodesk installation first, and investigate Microsoft runtimes only if a separate dependency error identifies one.
What information should I provide Autodesk support?
Record the exact Autodesk product and release, Windows version, complete error text, application path, whether acdorderres.dll exists, its location, whether antivirus quarantined it, and whether the failure affects every Windows account. This information helps distinguish a missing file from a dependency or profile problem.
What is the correct final fix?
Restore the file through the matching Autodesk installer. Update first, use Repair where the older installer provides it, and uninstall and reinstall when the newer installer does not support Repair. Avoid unrelated DLL downloads and do not replace one AutoCAD version’s resource file with another’s.
