Activision said it had permanently banned more than 50,000 Call of Duty: Warzone accounts worldwide by the end of March 2020. That was the initial figure, not the latest total: an official update published April 14 said the number had passed 70,000 by April 13. Both are company-reported totals, not independently verified counts of unique people who cheated.
What did Activision announce about Warzone bans?
In an anti-cheat statement posted March 31, 2020, Infinity Ward said enforcement had resulted in more than 50,000 permanent bans worldwide since Warzone launched. Contemporary reports published April 1 covered the announcement, including Game Developer and Neowin.
The headline number referred to accounts or bans, not a confirmed tally of individual people. The available statements do not establish what share of Warzone players cheated, how many unique individuals were involved, or how many bans were later appealed or reversed.
How did the reported total change?
| Date | Reported figure | What it refers to |
|---|---|---|
| By the end of March 2020; reported April 1 | More than 50,000 permanent bans worldwide | Activision’s initial public total since Warzone launched, as covered contemporaneously by Game Developer and Neowin. |
| As of April 13, 2020; official post updated April 14 | More than 70,000 permabans worldwide | Activision’s later update in its official Warzone security and enforcement post. |
| July 16–19, 2021 | More than 50,000 accounts across two ban waves in one week | A separate later event, reported by GameSpot following Raven Software’s announcement. |
Warzone launched on March 11, 2020, according to Neowin’s launch coverage. Activision’s April 14 update is the reason the original 50,000 figure should be described as an early snapshot rather than the publisher’s newest 2020 count.

What did Activision say it was doing about cheating?
Activision described an ongoing enforcement process, not a single sweep. Its April post said security teams monitored game data around the clock to investigate possible infractions and reviewed cheats and hacks, including aimbots and wallhacks. It also said the team analyzed in-game reports, filtered them using key data, and issued bans after investigations were complete. These are the publisher’s descriptions of its process; the statements do not independently establish how effective each measure was.
Activision’s Call of Duty Staff post said, “We take all forms of cheating very seriously, maintaining a level and fair playing field for everyone is among our highest priorities.” It also acknowledged, “We recognize that there’s no single solution for combating cheaters, it’s a constant enforcement every day, 24/7.” The publisher framed anti-cheat work as continuous because it said cheats and enforcement needs persist over time.

Why the July 2021 figure is easy to confuse with the 2020 announcement
In July 2021, Raven Software announced two Warzone ban waves totaling more than 50,000 accounts in one week, as GameSpot reported on July 19. The similar number does not describe the March 2020 announcement: it is a distinct event more than a year later, with its own two-wave timeframe.
