1. Close AutoCAD.
2. Temporarily disable recently installed AutoCAD plug-ins using the plug-in’s own installer or settings.
3. Launch AutoCAD directly from its installed shortcut.
4. Do not open it through a third-party add-on, file manager extension, or custom launcher.
5. Test with a new blank drawing.

If AutoCAD works directly but fails when a plug-in is enabled, update or remove that plug-in and confirm that it supports the installed AutoCAD release. Restore plug-ins one at a time so the failing add-on is identifiable.

If AutoCAD still fails directly, the core installation remains the primary suspect.

Fix 6: Confirm architecture and dependencies

On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit AutoCAD installation still needs compatible 32-bit application files. Installing a 64-bit runtime or copying a 64-bit DLL does not make a 32-bit Autodesk resource DLL valid.

Check Settings → System → About to see whether Windows is 64-bit. This does not by itself identify whether AutoCAD is 32-bit or 64-bit, so use the product documentation, installer, or original deployment records for AutoCAD’s architecture.

Also read the entire error message. If it names another file, that file may be the actual missing dependency. Examples include files beginning with msvcp, vcruntime, or api-ms-win.

Microsoft’s current Visual C++ packages are separate x86 and x64 redistributables. Install a runtime only when the error specifically identifies a Visual C++ dependency and obtain it from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. This will not replace acui18res.dll.

Do not install Windows Features, DirectX components, or .NET Framework packages merely because a generic DLL repair article recommends them. Those components do not recreate an Autodesk resource DLL. Use Turn Windows features on or off only when the full AutoCAD error or Autodesk’s product requirements identify a needed Windows feature.

Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged

Do not run regsvr32 on this resource DLL

regsvr32 is used for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. acui18res.dll is a resource component and is not normally registered this way. Running:

regsvr32 acui18res.dll
