“The program can’t start because acuimgtl.dll is missing from your computer.”
If Windows reports that acuimgtl.dll was not found or could not be loaded, repair the Acoustica application that installed it rather than copying a DLL into System32. Public file records associate it most clearly with Acoustica Mixcraft, although Pianissimo may also install a copy.

Which fix applies to you
Use the first matching description:
- The error names Mixcraft: repair or reinstall that Mixcraft installation from a legitimate Acoustica installer or account.
- The error names Pianissimo: repair Pianissimo instead of substituting a Mixcraft file.
- Windows Security recently detected a threat: inspect Protection History before reinstalling or restoring anything.
- The file exists beside the application, but Windows says “specified module could not be found”: a dependency may be missing.
- The file is in
System32, a temporary folder, or an unrelated program directory: treat it as suspicious and do not register or copy it. - The problem began after an update, cleanup, uninstall, or failed reinstall: perform a clean repair of the affected Acoustica product.
- Only one project triggers the error: test a blank project because an old plug-in or project component may be involved.
- Several unrelated applications also fail: check Windows components, disk health, malware, and system repair.
What acuimgtl.dll is
acuimgtl.dll is an application DLL associated with Acoustica software. It is not a Windows system file, Microsoft runtime, graphics driver, or DirectX component.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Public Mixcraft file records associate it with Mixcraft, including an older Mixcraft 8.1 build. Another software inventory lists it under Pianissimo. That does not prove that every copy belongs to the same product or release.

The file should normally remain in the folder belonging to the Acoustica program that loads it. A Mixcraft installation may keep it beside the main Mixcraft executable, rather than in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The exact internal purpose, official version, hash, and size are not publicly established. Do not use an online file listing as a specification for replacing it.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the Acoustica application
This is the most likely fix because the DLL ships with the application, not with Windows.
Identify the owning program
Read the complete error window and note the executable named in its title or message. You can also inspect the shortcut:
- Right-click the Mixcraft, Pianissimo, or Acoustica shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Check Target and Start in.
- Note the application folder and executable name.
If the error appears while opening a project, start the application without opening that project. A blank project helps separate an application-startup problem from a missing plug-in or project component.
Preserve user data
Before uninstalling, back up Mixcraft projects, custom presets, recordings, templates, and any exported settings. Do not assume that an uninstaller preserves every user-created file.
Reinstall from a legitimate package
Use the original Acoustica installer, your Acoustica account, or Acoustica support to obtain the correct product. Do not replace an older Mixcraft file with one taken from Mixcraft 10, Pianissimo, or another release.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If the product is still listed in Windows:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on some Windows 10 builds.
- Find the affected Acoustica program.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall, if a repair option is not available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the same product using the legitimate installer.
- Launch it before restoring optional plug-ins or old projects.
If Settings does not show the program:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Acoustica application.
- Choose Repair if offered. Otherwise choose Uninstall, restart, and reinstall it.
A successful repair should restore acuimgtl.dll to the application’s own directory and allow the program to start. If reinstalling Mixcraft does not help, confirm that Mixcraft actually produces the error. The file may belong to Pianissimo or another older Acoustica installation.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update or after detecting a modified installation.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent entries for the Acoustica installation folder or
acuimgtl.dll. - Open the detection details.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The detection points to a legitimate Acoustica installation.
- The installation came from Acoustica or your original licensed media.
- You recognize the product and folder.
- A current scan does not identify the installation as malicious.
If those conditions are not met, do not restore the quarantined file. Remove the suspicious copy, run a full scan, and reinstall the application from a trusted Acoustica source. Microsoft documents quarantine restoration and Protection History in Windows Security.
After restoring a known-good file, launch the application. If Windows immediately quarantines it again, stop forcing the restore and contact Acoustica support or investigate the installation for tampering.

Fix 3: Match the product, release, and architecture
A DLL with the right filename can still be incompatible.
Check whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit:
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl + Shift + Esc. - Start the Acoustica application if possible.
- Open the Details tab.
- Look for the process name. Some Windows versions mark 32-bit processes with
*32. - You can also inspect the application’s installation folder and product documentation.
A 32-bit application needs compatible 32-bit application files. A 64-bit application needs compatible 64-bit files. Current Mixcraft requirements do not prove that every older acuimgtl.dll release had the same architecture.
Do not mix files between:
- Different Mixcraft major versions
- Mixcraft and Pianissimo
- 32-bit and 64-bit installations
- A current installer and an older project environment
If an old Acoustica program no longer works after installing a current release, use the original account or installer route for that older product, or ask Acoustica support for the correct legacy package.
Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is missing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that acuimgtl.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies.
First, check the application directory:
- Right-click the Acoustica shortcut.
- Select Open file location.
- Confirm that
acuimgtl.dllis beside the expected application files. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check its location and any available Digital Signatures tab.
Do not infer legitimacy from the filename alone. A copy outside the Acoustica folder is not automatically safe.
If the file exists and has a valid installation location, reinstall the complete Acoustica application rather than hunting for individual runtime DLLs. Do not install random Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET packages unless the complete error specifically identifies that component.

Fix 5: Update or reinstall relevant drivers
Drivers do not normally provide acuimgtl.dll, so this is not the primary repair. It becomes relevant when the Acoustica program fails during audio-device setup, video handling, plug-in scanning, or project loading, especially if other applications also show audio or graphics errors.
Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click your audio device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
For a display-related failure, expand Display adapters and repeat the process for the graphics device. If the issue began immediately after a driver update, open Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver when available.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou can also uninstall the affected device from Device Manager, restart Windows, and install the current driver supplied by the hardware manufacturer. This still will not recreate an absent Acoustica DLL, so reinstall the Acoustica program if acuimgtl.dll is missing.
Manually hunting through hardware pages and comparing driver packages is tedious, especially when several audio or graphics devices are installed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the Acoustica application remains the definitive fix when its own DLL is missing.

Windows repair commands generally do not recreate third-party Acoustica files. Use them when Windows itself has corrupted files, multiple applications are failing, or reinstalling Acoustica did not resolve broader system problems.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
- Test the Acoustica application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command should be expected to download or reconstruct acuimgtl.dll.
Repeatedly running system repair commands without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow and confusing. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing system issues; its free scan identifies problems, while repairs are performed by the full version. For this file, reinstalling the Acoustica application remains the definitive repair.
Fix 7: Check malware, disk damage, and permissions
If the file disappeared from a legitimate folder, consider what happened immediately beforehand.
- Run Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Scan options → Full scan.
- If the drive has begun reporting errors, back up projects and recordings before deeper repair.
- Use System Restore when the failure began after a known installation or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- If only one Windows account is affected, create a temporary test account and launch the application there.
- Check that the application folder is not redirected to an unavailable drive.
- Confirm that your Windows account can read the installation directory.
Do not add broad antivirus exclusions for a suspicious DLL. If the file appears in a cracked-software directory, temporary folder, or unrelated application folder, delete or quarantine it and obtain a clean Acoustica installer.
Why regsvr32 is usually wrong
Do not run:
regsvr32 acuimgtl.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no public evidence that acuimgtl.dll is a self-registering COM server.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Running the command may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found” and does not repair a missing dependency, wrong architecture, or damaged Acoustica installation. Use it only if Acoustica specifically confirms that the particular file is a registerable component.
Why downloading the DLL separately is unsafe
Do not download acuimgtl.dll from a random DLL website or copy it into System32. That file may be:
- From the wrong Acoustica product
- From the wrong release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Modified or malicious
- Missing other dependencies
The safe source is the official Acoustica installer, your legitimate Acoustica account, or Acoustica support. Restore from quarantine only when the original installation is trusted and the detection has been verified.
