The kted.dll error usually belongs to KOMPAS or KOMPAS-3D, not Windows. The safest repair is to restore the complete matching KOMPAS installation rather than copying kted.dll into a Windows system folder.

Which fix applies to you
Use this quick decision list before changing anything:
- The error appeared after installing, updating, repairing, or removing KOMPAS: repair or reinstall the same KOMPAS release and its applicable update.
- KOMPAS starts with a procedure-entry-point or compatibility error: the DLL and the KOMPAS executable may come from different releases. Reinstall the complete matching build.
- The file disappeared suddenly: check Windows Security Protection history for quarantine.
- The error says “The specified module could not be found,” but
kted.dllis present: a dependency of the DLL may be missing. - The error appears in an unrelated program: identify that program first. Do not assume the file is a genuine KOMPAS component.
- Several Windows applications are failing: repair Windows components after repairing KOMPAS.
- You found
kted.dllin a temporary, download, or unknown folder: scan it and do not restore or register it manually.
What is kted.dll
kted.dll is a third-party application library associated with KOMPAS and KOMPAS-3D, CAD software developed and distributed by ASCON. Public evidence identifies the file with the x64 KOMPAS application, but its exact internal purpose is not publicly documented.

It is not identified as a Windows system component. Normally, it belongs inside the KOMPAS installation directory, commonly under a path similar to:
C:Program FilesASCONKOMPAS-3D V14BinkTEd.DLL
The release number in that example is only an example of an older installation path. Do not mix files between KOMPAS V14, V18, V23, V24, V25, or other releases.
Current KOMPAS-3D Windows editions are 64-bit and require Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later according to the current requirements documentation. Older installations can have different requirements, so repair the release you actually use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall KOMPAS
This is the primary fix because kted.dll is an application-owned file. A repair restores missing files and can also correct broken registration, installation paths, and neighboring libraries.
Try Windows app repair
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for KOMPAS-3D or KOMPAS.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if that option is available.
- Restart Windows and open KOMPAS.
A successful repair should let the same KOMPAS shortcut start without the kted.dll message. If the error remains, return to the app entry and use Reset only if you have confirmed that it will not remove settings or license data you need.
Use the original installer
If Windows does not offer Repair:
- Close KOMPAS and any related ASCON processes.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select KOMPAS-3D.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall/Change, depending on what the installer provides.
- Complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test KOMPAS again.
If repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall KOMPAS and reinstall it using the original installer or an official ASCON distribution. Use ASCON’s official KOMPAS download page, support distribution archive, or your organization’s legitimate installation media. Afterward, install the service pack or update intended for that exact release.
Do not replace only kted.dll from another KOMPAS version. A historical ASCON support case describes replacing the file in the KOMPAS Bin folder and resolving the issue with an older service-pack update, but that does not make an old service pack correct for every KOMPAS installation.
Confirm the installation folder
To locate copies without moving them:
where /r "C:Program FilesASCON" kted.dll
where /r "C:Program Files (x86)ASCON" kted.dll
If the command finds a file, right-click it and select Properties. Check:
- General: the full location and file size
- Details: available product and version information
- Digital Signatures: whether a signature is present and valid
A file in System32 is not automatically a Windows file. Location, the requesting executable, the KOMPAS release, and the file’s properties all matter.
Fix 2: Match the KOMPAS architecture and release
A 64-bit KOMPAS executable needs the matching 64-bit application files. Installing a different architecture or copying a DLL from another release can produce errors such as:
- “The procedure entry point could not be located”
- “The application was unable to start correctly”
- “The file is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error”
Check the application listed in Settings > Apps > Installed apps and identify the release shown by its installer or shortcut. Also inspect the shortcut:
- Right-click the KOMPAS shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the Target path.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Confirm that the executable and its
Bindirectory belong to the same installation.
Keep the entire Bin directory from one KOMPAS installation set. Do not combine files from separate folders, backup copies, cracked installers, or different service-pack levels.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. Check before reinstalling individual files.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a recent event involving
kted.dllor the KOMPAS installation folder. - Review the detection details and affected path.
Restore the file only if the KOMPAS installer and installation are trusted and the detection has been confirmed as a false positive. Microsoft warns that allowing a detected file can expose the device. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined and reinstall KOMPAS from an official source instead.
After reinstalling, add an exclusion only if your administrator or security vendor has confirmed the installation is safe. Avoid disabling real-time protection just to force a DLL into place.
Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that kted.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of the libraries it requires.
First, repair or reinstall KOMPAS as described above. That restores the complete application file chain and is safer than adding individual runtime files.

If the KOMPAS installer or diagnostic information specifically identifies a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the architecture-matched package from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page. Do not install random runtime DLLs separately.
The same rule applies to .NET. Use Settings > Apps > Optional features > More Windows features to check Windows Features, but do not enable unrelated legacy components simply because a DLL error appeared. Current KOMPAS requirements call for .NET Framework 4.8 or later; use the product’s requirements for your exact release.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix 5: Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands are secondary here because kted.dll is not a protected Windows system file. They can help if other Windows components are also corrupted, but they normally will not restore a missing KOMPAS DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test KOMPAS.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component source, while SFC checks protected Windows files. If both commands report repairs but KOMPAS still shows the same message, return to the KOMPAS repair or reinstall rather than repeatedly running SFC.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can show a scan of Windows issues and automate repair through its full version, but reinstalling KOMPAS remains the definitive fix for a missing application DLL.
Fix 6: Install Windows updates and check drivers only when relevant
Run Windows Update if the error began after a major system change or if other applications are failing:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
There is no file-specific evidence that a graphics driver, DirectX installation, or a particular Windows update normally fixes kted.dll. Do not make driver replacement your first step.
If KOMPAS crashes with display errors as well as the DLL message, inspect drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties and check the Driver tab.
- Use Update Driver or install the correct driver from the graphics hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
Hunting through Device Manager and checking many driver versions manually can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and perform driver installation through its full version, but it is not a substitute for repairing the KOMPAS installation when kted.dll is missing.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
If KOMPAS worked before a software installation, update, or removal, System Restore may reverse the change.
Recommended Free Tools
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the
kted.dllfailure. - Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system settings, installed programs, and system files. It normally does not remove personal documents, but review the affected programs before confirming.
What not to do
Do not download kted.dll from a random DLL website. A manually sourced file may contain malware, belong to a different KOMPAS release, use the wrong architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing. Copying it to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can also cause unrelated applications to load the wrong library.
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. Microsoft documents it for self-registering COM or ActiveX libraries that expose DllRegisterServer. An ordinary KOMPAS runtime DLL may not export that function, producing a “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found” error. Registering it will not recreate a missing dependency.
FAQ
Is kted.dll part of Windows?
No public evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with KOMPAS/KOMPAS-3D from ASCON and should normally remain in the application’s own installation directory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsShould I copy it to System32?
No. Repair or reinstall the matching KOMPAS release instead.
Which program uses kted.dll?
The strongest public identification associates it with KOMPAS, including KOMPAS-3D, from ASCON. If the error appears in another program, inspect that program’s executable path before assuming the file is genuine.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is present?
A dependency required by kted.dll may be missing, or the DLL may not match the executable and neighboring KOMPAS files. A complete application reinstall is safer than adding individual DLLs.
What information should I give ASCON support?
Provide the exact error text, KOMPAS version and architecture, full executable path, Bin folder path, whether security software quarantined anything, and what happened immediately before the error began. Include whether repair, reinstall, and the correct service pack changed the result.
