This is an Autodesk application DLL, not a Windows system file. It is associated with ReCap and Autodesk’s Reality Solutions components and may be installed with AutoCAD-based products, Civil 3D, ReCap, ReCap Pro, and other Autodesk applications.
The safest fix is to repair the affected Autodesk installation when that option exists. For Autodesk products using the newer installer, uninstall the affected product, restart Windows, download it again from Autodesk Account or Autodesk Access, and reinstall the correct version. Do not download this DLL separately or copy it into System32.

Why this DLL error happens
Autodesk identifies AdskRealityStudioFeatureExtraction.dll as a known failing module when AutoCAD-based software will not launch. The usual cause is a missing or corrupted installation file.
The problem often begins after:
- An incomplete Autodesk installation
- A failed or partial update
- A damaged installer cache
- Antivirus quarantine
- Disk cleanup or migration to another Windows installation
- A missing Microsoft runtime dependency
- Conflicting remnants from an older Autodesk release
The DLL is commonly found in an Autodesk application folder. A current ReCap package inventory shows an example under:
C:Program FilesAutodeskAutodesk ReCap
That is not a universal path. The correct location depends on the Autodesk product and release installed on your computer.
Public inventories identify copies as 64-bit, but the Autodesk installer determines which files belong with your installation. Do not replace the file with a copy from a different release or architecture.
Fix 1: Reinstall the affected Autodesk product
This is the primary fix for the error.
First identify which application is failing. If the dialog names acad.exe, the owner is usually AutoCAD or an AutoCAD-based vertical such as Civil 3D. If it names ReCap, repair or reinstall ReCap or ReCap Pro.
Autodesk 2022 and newer
For products using the newer installer, Autodesk says the older Repair or Reinstall maintenance option is generally unavailable.
- Close AutoCAD, ReCap, and every other Autodesk application.
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Search for the affected Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in to Autodesk Account or open Autodesk Access.
- Download the exact product and release you are licensed to use.
- Run the installer and complete setup.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the Autodesk application.
A successful reinstall restores the DLL to the product’s own installation directory. The application should open without the missing-file dialog.
Back up custom templates, profiles, tool palettes, scripts, and other important settings before removing the product. A clean uninstall can remove product configuration and customizations.
Autodesk 2021 and earlier
Older products may expose a repair option through Control Panel.
- Press Windows+R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Autodesk product.
- Click Uninstall/Change.
- Choose Repair or Repair or Reinstall, if offered.
- Complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Try the application again.
If repair is not available or the error remains, uninstall the product and install a fresh copy from Autodesk’s official account or desktop installer. Do not reuse a damaged installer package if the original setup failed.
If normal uninstall does not solve it
Use Autodesk’s clean-uninstall procedure for the affected product and release. This may remove shared components and leftover installation data. Before a full cleanup, back up important Autodesk data and create a Windows restore point.
After cleanup:
- Restart Windows.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Download a fresh Autodesk installer.
- Install the product as an administrator.
- Apply the product updates.
- Test the application before restoring customizations.
If several Autodesk products share components, follow the product-specific cleanup instructions rather than deleting random Autodesk folders manually.
Fix 2: Reinstall ReCap and apply its updates
ReCap and ReCap Pro use Autodesk Reality Solutions components, so ReCap may be the application that owns or supplies the missing file even when the launch failure is noticed from another Autodesk product.
- Open Autodesk Account or Autodesk Access.
- Find ReCap or ReCap Pro in your products.
- Download the current installer intended for your licensed product.
- Install it over the existing installation, or uninstall the damaged copy first.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Autodesk Access.
- Install available ReCap updates in sequence.
Autodesk states that ReCap updates cannot be skipped. If an old installer is missing intermediate updates, obtain the current installation package and apply updates in the order offered by Autodesk Access.

After installation, check whether the DLL now exists in the ReCap or related Autodesk product directory. The exact folder varies by release, so do not treat one path as a required universal location.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine an Autodesk DLL after an update or installation. Restore it only when you can verify that the file came from the Autodesk installation and is in the expected application directory.

- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving the Autodesk installation folder.
- Expand a detection to inspect its path and action.
- If the file is clearly an Autodesk component and the detection is a false positive, follow your security software’s restore and allow-list process.
- Update the security definitions.
- Repair or reinstall the Autodesk product afterward.
Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains how quarantined items are handled. Do not allow a file merely because its name matches the missing DLL. If the location, signature, or origin is unclear, leave it quarantined and reinstall Autodesk from its official installer.
Fix 4: Check whether another dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may have found adskrealitystudiofeatureextraction.dll but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Check the exact error text first. If it names a Microsoft runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll, install or repair the official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Open Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Download
vc_redist.x64.exefor a 64-bit Autodesk installation. - Run the installer.
- Choose Repair, if offered, or complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Autodesk again.
The vc_redist.x86.exe package is for 32-bit applications. Installing Visual C++ does not restore a missing Autodesk DLL, so repair or reinstall Autodesk as well.

Fix 5: Update Windows and inspect drivers
Install Windows updates before trying deeper repairs.
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Check for updates again until none remain.
- Launch the Autodesk application.
You can also inspect graphics and other relevant drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not install a driver from an unknown download page. Use Windows Update or the graphics manufacturer’s official support channel, and use the driver matching your Windows architecture.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
These commands repair protected Windows components. They generally cannot recreate a missing Autodesk application DLL, but they are useful when Windows itself is damaged or several applications are failing.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Autodesk again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test the application. If it reports that it could not fix some files, run Windows Update and repeat the DISM and SFC sequence. If only Autodesk fails, return to the Autodesk reinstall procedure instead of repeatedly running system repair.

Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver, update, or software change and a restore point predates the failure.
- Press Windows+R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the DLL error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
Microsoft explains that System Restore reverts system files, registry settings, and installed programs without normally affecting personal files. It may not restore a damaged Autodesk installation, so reinstall Autodesk if the error survives the rollback.

Why copying the DLL or using regsvr32 is usually wrong
Do not copy adskrealitystudiofeatureextraction.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. A mismatched build can cause loader failures, crashes, or new dependency errors. A file obtained from an unknown source may also be modified or malicious.
Do not run:
regsvr32 AdskRealityStudioFeatureExtraction.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. This Autodesk runtime/library DLL is not documented as requiring COM registration. Registration will normally not repair a missing or damaged application installation.
The safe source is Autodesk Account or Autodesk Access for the affected product. For Microsoft runtime and Windows repairs, use Microsoft’s official download and support pages.
If reinstalling still fails
Check these details before contacting Autodesk support:
- Record the exact executable named in the error.
- Copy the full path shown in the message.
- Confirm whether the file is absent from the application directory or present but failing to load.
- Open Event Viewer.
- Select Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Review Autodesk installer logs for failed components.
- Confirm sufficient disk space.
- Check that your user account can access the Autodesk installation folder.
- Review antivirus history again.
- Install using an administrator account.
- Test with a new local administrator profile.
If the failure persists across a fresh installation, a restricted or corrupted Windows profile, permissions problem, incompatible release, or missing dependency may be involved. Do not mix a DLL from another Autodesk product or release. Provide Autodesk support with the product name, release, Windows version, exact error, installer log, and Event Viewer entry.

Is adskrealitystudiofeatureextraction.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to Autodesk software and should not normally be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Which Autodesk products may use it?
It may be present with AutoCAD-based products, Civil 3D, ReCap, ReCap Pro, and other Autodesk applications that incorporate Reality Solutions components. The application that installed the file is the correct owner to repair.
Should I download the DLL separately?
