The safest repair is to identify that application, then repair or reinstall its complete CryptoSys PKI package instead of downloading a standalone DLL.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing Windows, note:
- Which program shows the error? Check the window title, shortcut, Start menu entry, or the process named in Task Manager.
- When does it happen? Record whether it appears when launching the program, opening a document, running a macro, or signing into Windows.
- What does the message say? “Not found,” “specified module could not be found,” “incorrect format,” and “not designed to run on Windows” point to different causes.
- Is Windows 64-bit? Open Settings > System > About and check System type.
- Is the application 32-bit or 64-bit? Its bitness must match the CryptoSys build.
- Was the program recently upgraded, uninstalled, copied from another computer, or quarantined by antivirus software?
The filename is officially written as diCrPKI.dll, although Windows commonly displays it as dicrpki.dll. Windows treats those spellings as the same filename.
What dicrpki.dll belongs to
diCrPKI.dll is the core native DLL supplied with CryptoSys PKI Pro or CryptoSys PKI Toolkit, published by D.I. Management Services Pty Limited. It provides public-key cryptography and related PKI functions for applications written with interfaces such as VB, VBA, C, C++, and .NET.
It is not a Windows system file. It is not inherently part of Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a device driver. A program that uses CryptoSys may install the DLL beside its executable or through the CryptoSys installer into the appropriate Windows system directory.

A .NET application may also use diCrSysPKINet.dll, which is a wrapper. That wrapper still needs the native diCrPKI.dll, so a .NET error can mention the native DLL even when the wrapper is present.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the application that needs it
This is the most likely fix for a missing or not-found message.
If the application has a repair option
- Close the affected application.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the program that displays the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Repair is unavailable or does not work, use the application’s own installer or uninstall it and reinstall it from the application’s official publisher.
If CryptoSys was installed separately
Use the official CryptoSys package rather than a DLL archive. The Windows trial package is provided as pki-trial.exe or pki-trial.zip; the ZIP contains install.exe. Existing licensed users should obtain the matching Developer Edition from the CryptoSys licensed-user area.
Run the installer as an administrator:
- Download the package from the official CryptoSys source.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Launch the original application.
The installer requires administrator rights and is preferable to copying files manually because it restores the complete package and its intended search paths.
If the affected program bundled CryptoSys, do not automatically install the newest public trial package. A commercial, work, or government application may require a particular licensed build. In that situation, reinstall the application itself or obtain the exact package from its publisher.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if the application opens without the DLL message and performs the operation that previously failed. If the same message remains, continue with the architecture and path checks below rather than copying another DLL over the existing file.
Fix 2: Match the Win32 and x64 builds
CryptoSys supplies separate Win32 and x64 binaries. A 32-bit application running on 64-bit Windows still needs the Win32 DLL.

On 64-bit Windows, the usual system locations are:
C:WindowsSystem32for 64-bit binariesC:WindowsSysWOW64for 32-bit binaries
Those names are counterintuitive. Do not infer the required file from the folder name alone.
An architecture mismatch can produce an “incorrect format” error, HRESULT 0x8007000B, or a message saying the DLL is not designed to run on Windows.
To check the application:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Start the affected application if it is not already running.
- Look for its executable.
- On some Windows installations, a 32-bit process is marked with a suffix such as (32 bit).
For a .NET project, open the project settings and inspect Platform target. A project set to x86 requires the Win32 build. A project set to x64 requires the x64 build. Any CPU can behave differently depending on the runtime and the Prefer 32-bit setting, so follow the CryptoSys guidance for that application.
Do not place a 32-bit DLL in System32 or a 64-bit DLL in SysWOW64. Reinstall the matching CryptoSys edition through its installer so the correct files are placed together.
Fix 3: Check the DLL path and its dependencies
A file can appear in Explorer and still fail to load. Windows may be finding a different copy, or the named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is missing.
Check these locations:
- The folder containing the application’s executable.
- The correct Windows system directory for the application’s architecture.
- Any application-specific CryptoSys folder documented by the vendor.
- Unexpected locations such as Downloads, temporary folders, or folders left by an old upgrade.
Windows searches several locations, including the application directory and system directories, subject to its loader configuration and security rules. The application directory is particularly important because a bundled program may intentionally use a private copy.
Do not permanently add a random DLL download sites folder to PATH. Do not mix a Trial DLL with Developer Edition files, or files from different CryptoSys releases.
If the .NET error reads:
Unable to load DLL 'diCrPKI.dll':
The specified module could not be found.
the named DLL may be absent, but Windows may also be unable to load a dependency or the wrong architecture. Restore the complete application package first. Developers can then use an appropriate dependency diagnostic process to identify the missing module.

Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or block a file after an update or scan. Do not assume every detection is a false positive.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the relevant detection.
- Check the file path and the application that installed it.
- Do not select Restore or Allow on device unless the file came from a trusted official installer and your security policy permits it.
- If the file was removed, reinstall the application from its official source.
A matching filename does not prove authenticity. Verify the source, path, digital signature, and the version-specific information published by CryptoSys before allowing a quarantined file. Microsoft explains the Protection History workflow and the risks of allowing detected files in its Windows Security guidance.
Fix 5: Reinstall after an upgrade or partial replacement
An entry-point error, invalid-image message, or failure immediately after an upgrade usually indicates that CryptoSys files no longer match.
Repair the entire application rather than replacing only dicrpki.dll:
Recommended Free Tools
- Uninstall the affected application through Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the application’s current supported package.
- If it uses CryptoSys directly, install the matching CryptoSys edition as well.
- Start the application and test the operation that previously failed.
Do not combine diCrPKI.dll from one edition with diCrSysPKINet.dll or application files from another. A valid-looking DLL from a different release can cause entry-point errors or an invalid-image error.
Fix 6: Repair broader Windows component corruption
SFC and DISM are not primary fixes for dicrpki.dll because this is a third-party application DLL, not a protected Windows component. Use them when other Windows components are also malfunctioning or an installer cannot run.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- After DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and retry the application.
Success means DISM or SFC reports that repair completed, and other Windows problems improve. These commands will not normally download CryptoSys PKI or replace its missing DLL.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without identifying what changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows detected problems, while repair actions are performed by the full version; reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when CryptoSys itself is missing.

A device driver is not the normal cause of dicrpki.dll failure. Do not use Device Manager as the first repair.
Check drivers only if the application also crashes with graphics, smart-card, USB, certificate-reader, or other hardware errors:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers, which avoids hunting through many hardware entries; driver installation is performed by the full version. It is not required for a CryptoSys DLL repair, and the application’s own reinstall remains the authoritative fix.
Installing a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is also not a universal solution. Use it only when dependency analysis or the application publisher identifies a missing runtime, and match the package architecture to the application. Obtain it from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable documentation.
Do not use regsvr32 or random DLL downloads
regsvr32 dicrpki.dll is not a valid repair. CryptoSys states that its native DLL is not registered with regsvr32, and the .NET wrapper is referenced by the project rather than registered as a COM component.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration mechanism, typically COM or ActiveX components. It cannot restore a missing dependency, correct a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch, or repair an application search path.

FAQ
Is dicrpki.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a native CryptoSys PKI component supplied by a third-party application or development package.
Should I download the latest CryptoSys trial?
Not automatically. A bundled application may require a specific licensed or older build. Repair that application first, or obtain the exact CryptoSys package from its publisher.
Why does the message say “specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
Windows may be unable to load a dependency, may be finding the wrong copy, or may be loading a DLL with the wrong architecture.
Does a 32-bit program need the 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows?
Yes. Use the Win32 CryptoSys build. The operating system’s 64-bit status does not change the application’s bitness requirement.
Is diCrSysPKINet.dll the same file?
No. It is the .NET wrapper. It still depends on the native diCrPKI.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
