aegise5.dll is a legacy third-party networking file, not a normal Windows component. It belongs to the AEGIS Client API from Meetinghouse Data Communications and provides part of an IEEE 802.1X authentication client.
The safest fix is to identify the old wireless utility or adapter package that installed it, then repair or reinstall that complete package. Do not download a random copy of aegise5.dll and place it in System32.

What is aegise5.dll?
The file is identified as IEEE 802.1X Protocol. IEEE 802.1X allows a wired or wireless network client, called a supplicant, to authenticate against a network before access is granted.
aegise5.dll was used by older wireless-card utilities and network clients, including packages associated with:

Error messages caused by aegise5.dll
You may see one of these reported variants:
- “The program can’t start because aegise5.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting aegise5.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading aegise5.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because aegise5.dll was not found.”
- “aegise5.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording matters less than the program named in the message. That program is usually the best clue to the missing parent package.

Windows can show that message when a dependency required by the DLL is missing, damaged or incompatible.
Fix 1: Identify the program that owns the file
Before reinstalling anything, find out which application is trying to load aegise5.dll.
Check the erroring executable
Look at the title bar or body of the error dialog. Record the name of the application that failed. A wireless monitor, connection manager or vendor utility is more relevant than a modern game or ordinary Windows process.
If the error appears during startup, the parent may be an old network service or startup utility rather than a program you opened manually.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the DLL location
If the message displays a path, record it. You can also search for the file:
- Press Windows key + E.
- Select This PC.
- In the search box, type
aegise5.dll. - Wait for the search to finish.
- Right-click a result and select Open file location.
- Right-click the file, select Properties, then open Details.
The Details tab may show the description, product name or company name. Do not assume that a file under C:WindowsSystem32 is a Microsoft file. An old installer may have copied a third-party component there.
A file beside a vendor utility’s executable is a strong clue. A file found only in a leftover directory can instead indicate that the original application was partly removed.

Search installed programs
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for
AEGIS,Meetinghouse,ASUS,Linksys,RalinkorCisco. - Open the three-dot menu beside a likely program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Look for Repair or Reset.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Apps & features.
- Search for the same vendor and product names.
- Select the suspected wireless utility.
- Choose Modify, Repair or Uninstall, depending on what Windows provides.
You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Older installers often expose Change or Repair there even when the modern Settings page does not.

Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the original wireless package
This is the most likely solution because the DLL belongs to a complete 802.1X client, not to a standalone Windows runtime.
If a Repair option exists
Use Repair, Modify or Change from Installed apps or Programs and Features. Follow the installer prompts, restart Windows, and launch the program that previously failed.
A successful repair should do more than recreate one file. It should restore the DLL’s companion files, configuration, services and registry settings expected by the wireless utility.
If repair is unavailable
Uninstall the old utility first:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate the ASUS, Linksys, Ralink, AEGIS, Meetinghouse or related wireless program.
- Select the menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart the computer when prompted.
- Install the correct driver and utility package for the exact wireless adapter model.
If the uninstall leaves a startup error, restart once more before installing anything. A stale service or startup entry may continue trying to launch the removed application until Windows has fully reloaded.
Find the exact adapter model
Do not select a driver merely because the brand name looks familiar.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Record the full name and model of the wireless adapter.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Select Hardware Ids from the Property menu.
- Record the values shown under Value.
Use the exact model and Windows version when obtaining the driver or utility from the computer manufacturer, adapter manufacturer or original installation media. Some older packages contain both the driver and the AEGIS-based wireless monitor, while others contain only the driver.
For an old Linksys, ASUS or Ralink adapter, the correct package may be available only through the original support material, an included disc or a verified archived OEM package. Avoid mixing a driver from one hardware revision with a utility from another.
When to remove the old utility instead
You do not need to restore AEGIS software if:
- The old adapter has been replaced.
- You use Windows’ built-in Wi-Fi configuration successfully.
- The program is only appearing as a leftover startup item.
- The utility is incompatible with the current Windows installation.
- Another wireless client is already managing the connection.
In that situation, uninstall the obsolete utility and keep the supported adapter driver. Running multiple old wireless monitors or supplicants can cause conflicts because each may try to manage the same connection.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined the DLL. This is especially possible after restoring an old system image or reinstalling legacy software.

- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry containing
aegise5.dllor the parent wireless utility.
Do not restore the file automatically. Restore it only if all of the following are true:
- It came from a verified original installer or trusted OEM recovery source.
- The detection is demonstrably a false positive.
- The parent package is still required.
- You are prepared to reinstall the complete package if the file is removed again.
If the file came from an unknown download, delete it and reinstall the wireless package from a trusted original source instead. Restoring a quarantined file can cause Microsoft Defender to inspect it again.
If the parent software is no longer needed, uninstalling it is safer than adding an exception for an obsolete network client.

Fix 4: Reinstall the driver and utility as one package
A missing aegise5.dll can appear after reinstalling only a network driver while leaving out the vendor’s wireless-management software.
Use this sequence:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the affected adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct driver package for the adapter.
- Install the matching wireless utility only if the hardware or network requires it.
- Restart again.
Windows may reinstall a basic driver automatically after the restart. That can restore network access, but it may not restore an old AEGIS-dependent application.
The indexed aegise5.dll record is 32-bit. A 32-bit application needs the matching 32-bit DLL and compatible companion files, even on 64-bit Windows. Installing a similarly named 64-bit component, or combining files from different releases, can produce errors such as “not designed to run on Windows” or missing-entry-point messages.
When manually checking compatibility, match:
- The application’s architecture
- The DLL’s architecture
- The driver and utility release
- The wireless adapter model
- The Windows version supported by the original package
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through hardware models and guessing which driver is stale; its free scan shows what needs attention, while the repair or driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the original wireless utility remains the definitive fix when that program specifically requires aegise5.dll.

aegise5.dll is not established as a Windows component, so System File Checker will not normally recreate it. Use Windows repair commands when other Windows files are also failing, updates are broken, or the problem began after disk corruption or an incomplete system restore.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files against that repaired store. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but the AEGIS program still fails, return to the original wireless package rather than repeating the commands.
For Microsoft’s documented procedure, see Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.
If you are repeatedly hunting through old packages and running SFC or DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can show a free scan of issues it detects; the repair is completed by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the specific AEGIS-dependent application.
Fix 6: Check for a stale startup entry
If the old wireless utility has already been removed, the error may come from a startup command or service that still points to aegise5.dll.

Check Startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an ASUS, Linksys, Ralink, AEGIS, Meetinghouse or unknown wireless entry.
- Right-click a confirmed leftover entry.
- Select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup entry does not repair the application. It only prevents Windows from launching a removed program.
Check Services carefully
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Look for a service clearly belonging to the removed wireless utility.
- Open Properties and inspect the executable path.
- Do not disable a service unless you have identified it as the obsolete parent program.
If the error disappears after disabling the stale entry, uninstall the associated legacy software properly. Do not replace the missing DLL simply to keep a program running that you no longer use.

- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.

System Restore changes system files, drivers, installed programs and settings, but it does not normally remove personal documents. For more detail, see Microsoft’s System Restore guidance.
If no suitable restore point exists, restore the associated adapter software from a known-good image or reinstall the original package.
What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL from a random website
A downloaded copy may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to a different build or require companion files that are still missing. It can also conceal the real problem, such as a damaged wireless utility, stale startup entry or missing dependency.
There is no verified current official standalone Meetinghouse download for this file. Use original installation media, the computer or adapter manufacturer’s package, or a vendor archive whose provenance you can verify.

Do not copy it blindly into System32
The application may expect the DLL beside its executable or inside a vendor-specific directory. Copying it into System32 may leave the application unable to find it and can mix files from unrelated releases.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair command
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. aegise5.dll is described as an IEEE 802.1X protocol module, not as a COM component shown to require registration.
Running a command such as the following is therefore not a normal fix:

It may produce an entry-point error and will not restore missing dependencies, configuration or the parent application.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDo not install Visual C++, DirectX or .NET first
Those packages are common advice for generic application errors, but there is no evidence that one of them is the source of this particular AEGIS DLL. Start with the wireless utility or adapter package that originally installed it.
What if reinstalling the package does not work?
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the error names the same application after reinstalling.
- Check whether the DLL is present in the package’s expected application directory.
- Confirm that the installed application and DLL have compatible architecture.
- Look for a second copy of the old wireless utility managing the same adapter.
- Check Windows Security Protection history again.
- Run DISM and SFC if other Windows components are also failing.
- Install pending Windows updates and restart.
- If the failure began after a recent change, use System Restore.
- If the hardware and software are obsolete, uninstall the legacy utility and use the adapter’s supported driver with Windows network management.
If the original installer is unavailable and the old application is no longer needed, removing the parent software is usually safer than forcing an unknown DLL into Windows. If the application is required for a particular legacy adapter, recover the complete package from original media, an OEM recovery image or a verifiable vendor archive.
FAQ
Is aegise5.dll part of Windows?
No reliable evidence supports that. It is associated with the third-party Meetinghouse AEGIS Client API and old wireless 802.1X utilities.
Is aegise5.dll a virus?
The filename alone does not prove whether a file is safe. Check its location, digital-signature information, parent application and Windows Security detection. A copy from an unknown DLL site should not be trusted.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will installing Visual C++ fix it?
Not as the default solution. The likely problem is a missing or damaged wireless utility package, not a Microsoft runtime.
Should I register aegise5.dll?
Normally, no. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that support registration entry points. It does not repair an absent parent program or missing dependency.
Why does Windows say the specified module cannot be found when the file exists?
A dependency may be missing, the file may be in the wrong directory, or the application may be loading an incompatible build. Reinstall the complete matching package instead of copying another DLL.
Can I delete the file?
Do not delete it while the parent program is still required. If it belongs to an obsolete utility that has already been uninstalled, remove the parent software and its stale startup entry rather than deleting individual files blindly.
Why does a 32-bit DLL matter on 64-bit Windows?
A 32-bit application generally needs a 32-bit version of its DLL and matching companion files. A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit software, but it cannot make an incompatible DLL build suitable for that application.
What is the safest fix?
Identify the application or adapter that originally installed aegise5.dll, then repair or reinstall that complete OEM wireless package. If the old utility is no longer needed, uninstall it and use a supported driver and Windows’ built-in network client instead.
