logsession.dll is an Adobe application library, not a Windows system file. When Windows says logsession.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Adobe program that is displaying the error rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is associated with Adobe software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Acrobat, Elements, Creative Cloud Desktop, and other Adobe applications. The filename alone cannot identify the exact product. The affected executable, installation folder, and the program you were trying to open provide that answer.

Fix 1: Identify the Adobe application that owns the file
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
Before changing Windows files, identify which Adobe application is failing.
Check the erroring program
Look at the window behind the DLL message. If you launched Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Elements, or Creative Cloud Desktop, start with that application.

Also note whether the message names another file. For example, an error mentioning VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or a graphics-driver file may not be caused by logsession.dll alone. The named dependency should determine the next repair step.
Find the Adobe installation folder
Use one of these methods:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Processes or Details.
- If an Adobe process is visible, right-click it.
- Select Open file location.
If the program will not stay open:
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for the Adobe application.
- Right-click it and choose Open file location.
- Right-click the shortcut shown in File Explorer and choose Properties.
- Read the path in Target or select Open File Location if available.
Adobe applications normally keep their private DLLs inside their own installation directories or Adobe-managed folders. An Adobe Elements report, for instance, lists the file under an Elements installation folder. Adobe crash reports also show LogSession.dll loaded as an Adobe module.
Do not treat a copy found in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as proof that Windows owns the file. LogSession.dll is not normally a global Windows component.

Check whether more than one Adobe version is installed
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10. Search for Adobe products and note whether several releases of the same application are present.
Older and newer Adobe installations can have different private libraries. Repair the copy belonging to the program named in the error, not an unrelated Adobe product.
Fix 2: Repair the affected Adobe application
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
Repairing the owning application is the safest first fix because the Adobe installer can restore the matching file, version, permissions, and architecture together.
Repair Acrobat
If Acrobat opens far enough to display its menus:
- Open Acrobat.
- Select Menu.
- Choose Help.
- Select Repair installation.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Acrobat again.
Some older Acrobat releases expose repair through Control Panel:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select Adobe Acrobat.
- Choose Change.
- Select Repair when offered.
- Restart Windows after the process finishes.
If Acrobat will not open and no repair option is available, continue to the Creative Cloud or complete-reinstall steps below.
Repair Creative Cloud Desktop

- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- When the Adobe uninstaller opens, choose Repair if it is available.
- Restart Windows.
- Try launching Creative Cloud Desktop and then the affected Adobe application.
Do not select full removal until you have tried repair, unless Creative Cloud is already unusable or its installation is clearly damaged.
Repair Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, or Elements
For applications managed through Creative Cloud:
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select All apps.
- Find the affected Adobe product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install any available update.
- If the product still fails, use the same menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the product from Creative Cloud.
If Creative Cloud itself cannot start, repair or reinstall Creative Cloud first. Reinstalling an individual application through a damaged Creative Cloud installation may not correct the underlying problem.

The repair succeeded if:
- The Adobe application opens without the
logsession.dllmessage. - The same project or document type opens normally.
- The error does not return after a restart.
- The file is present in the Adobe application’s own installation directory.
If the file is present but the error remains, do not copy it to another folder. The problem may involve a dependent DLL, a mismatched Adobe build, access permissions, corruption, or an invalid application manifest.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
A sudden disappearance after an Adobe update can result from antivirus quarantine. Check this before downloading or copying anything.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving Adobe files or
LogSession.dll. - Expand an entry to inspect its path and details.
Only consider restoring the file when all of these conditions are true:
- The original path belongs to a legitimate Adobe installation.
- The item was not downloaded from a DLL website or an unknown source.
- The file is identified as part of the Adobe installation.
- A current security scan does not flag the Adobe installation as compromised.
If the item came from an unknown program, a temporary folder, or a suspicious path, leave it quarantined and run a full scan instead.

After a legitimate restoration, repair or update the Adobe application. Restoration alone may put back a damaged or incompatible file without repairing the rest of the installation.
Fix 4: Reinstall the Adobe application completely
Time needed: 20 to 45 minutes
Use a complete reinstall when repair fails, the Adobe installation was interrupted, or multiple Adobe files are missing.
Reinstall a Creative Cloud application
- Open Creative Cloud Desktop, if it works.
- Select All apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Keep or remove preferences according to whether you need the existing settings.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the application from the official Adobe-managed installer.
If Creative Cloud Desktop cannot be repaired normally, use Adobe’s official removal process or Cleaner Tool process, then reinstall Creative Cloud and the required applications. Remove only the Adobe components you intend to rebuild, and back up presets, plug-ins, templates, catalogs, and project files first.

Do not use a copy of LogSession.dll from another computer as a substitute. The replacement may belong to another Acrobat release or another Adobe product.
How to tell whether a reinstall worked
Launch the Adobe application before restoring optional plug-ins or custom extensions. If it opens cleanly, add those items back gradually. A third-party plug-in may be the component that triggers the loading failure even when LogSession.dll itself is correct.
If the error returns immediately after a clean reinstall, record the full path shown in the message and check whether the application is installed on a local drive.
Adobe documents installation and launch problems involving restricted permissions, conflicting user profiles, and unsupported network or mapped-drive locations. Move or reinstall the application to a local system drive rather than repeatedly copying DLLs between folders.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
LogSession.dll has appeared in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. The correct architecture is determined by the Adobe application, not simply by whether Windows is 64-bit.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11A 32-bit Adobe application can require a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit Adobe application requires the matching 64-bit build. A file from another Adobe product or release may also export different functions.
Public file catalogs list versions including:
| Architecture | Version | Approximate size |
|---|---|---|
| 32-bit | 7.4.1.80 | 2.04 MB |
| 32-bit | 2.1.2.1756 | 0.29 MB |
| 64-bit | 2.1.2.1736 | 0.36 MB |
| 32-bit | 2.1.2.1652 | 0.48 MB |
| 32-bit | 2.1.2.1640 | 0.31 MB |
| 64-bit | 8.1.0.40 | 1.8 MB |
| 32-bit | 7.4.1.122 | 2.07 MB |
These records can help identify a file, but they are not an official Adobe compatibility table or release history. Do not select a file because it is newer or larger.
To check an application’s architecture:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click the column headings.
- Choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform if your Windows version provides that column.
- Start the Adobe application and inspect its process.
The reliable correction for an architecture mismatch is to reinstall the Adobe application. Do not place a 32-bit file in System32, a 64-bit file in SysWOW64, or either file beside an unrelated executable.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes, plus restart time
LogSession.dll is an Adobe library, so System File Checker will not normally restore it. Run Windows repair commands when several unrelated programs fail, Windows reports system corruption, updates are broken, or the Adobe installer cannot operate correctly.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall the Adobe application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. The commands repair Windows components and protected system files; they do not replace a private Adobe DLL with an Adobe-specific version.
Repeating these commands without checking the Adobe installation will not solve a missing application file. Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of checking system problems by scanning for issues and showing what needs attention, but its repair function requires the full version. Reinstalling the Adobe application remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that application.
Fix 7: Check the Windows user account and installation path
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
Permissions or profile damage can prevent an otherwise valid Adobe file from loading.
Test with a new local account
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Other users on Windows 11, or Family & other users on Windows 10.
- Select Add account.
- Choose the option to add a user without using an existing online account if necessary.
- Create a temporary local account.
- Sign out of your normal account.
- Sign in to the temporary account.
- Launch the Adobe application.
If the application works only in the new account, the original profile, permissions, preferences, or plug-ins may be damaged. Repair the original Adobe installation and rebuild its user settings rather than copying DLLs into profile folders.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsConfirm a local installation
Avoid installing the application on a mapped drive, removable drive, or network share while troubleshooting. Reinstall it to the local Windows system drive using the Adobe installer. Access interruptions and policy restrictions can produce errors that look like missing DLL problems.
Fix 8: Update a driver only when the error names a driver dependency
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
Graphics drivers can affect Adobe launch and rendering, but they are not the first explanation for a missing LogSession.dll. Update a driver only when the error names a graphics or other driver file, Adobe reports a graphics initialization failure, or the application crashes after launch rather than reporting this DLL as missing.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Adobe application.
For another named device, expand its category and repeat the same process. If Windows cannot find a suitable driver, use the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel rather than a random driver site.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan instead of making you hunt through Device Manager and guess which of many drivers is stale; the full version performs the driver installation. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Adobe when logsession.dll belongs to the Adobe application.

Do not download logsession.dll from a random DLL site
A filename match does not prove that the file is safe, correct, or compatible. A downloaded DLL may contain malware, belong to another Adobe release, use the wrong architecture, or lack dependent files. It can also hide the damaged installation that will fail again during the next update.
Use Adobe’s official installer, Creative Cloud repair process, or the installer supplied by your organization.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
LogSession.dll is not a standard Windows library. Copying it to a system directory can create version conflicts and architecture confusion. It does not repair the Adobe application that requested the file.

Do not run regsvr32
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It does not restore an absent application file or repair an ordinary runtime library.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a general fix:
regsvr32 LogSession.dll
regsvr32 /u LogSession.dll
A registration error from these commands does not prove that Windows is damaged. Reinstall the Adobe product instead.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET at random
Install or repair Microsoft Visual C++ only if the message names a Microsoft runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll, or Adobe’s installer specifically requests it. The same principle applies to DirectX and .NET. There is no reliable evidence that installing them specifically repairs LogSession.dll.
Likely causes, in practical order
| What changed | Likely explanation | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| The error began after an Adobe update | Incomplete or damaged Adobe installation | Repair or reinstall the affected Adobe product |
| The file disappeared suddenly | Antivirus quarantine or cleanup | Check Protection history, then repair Adobe |
| The file exists but will not load | Wrong architecture, corruption, dependency, or permissions | Reinstall the owning product and check the full error |
| Several Adobe releases are installed | The erroring executable is using a different installation | Identify its full path and repair that version |
| Adobe is installed on a mapped drive | Access or policy restriction | Reinstall to a local drive |
| Several unrelated programs fail | Broader Windows or storage corruption | Run DISM, then SFC, and investigate Windows health |
| A game or non-Adobe program requests the file | Bundled Adobe component, damaged software, or suspicious file request | Verify the program’s provenance before restoring anything |
Frequently asked questions
Is logsession.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows component. Its metadata identifies Adobe Systems Incorporated, and Adobe crash and installation reports place it inside Adobe application directories.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Which Adobe product installed it?
The filename alone cannot answer that. Adobe crash reports show it among modules associated with products including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere-related applications, Lightroom, InDesign, and After Effects. Adobe Elements reports also list it. Acrobat and Creative Cloud installations may contain related Adobe components, but use the failing executable and installation path to identify the owner.
Can I download the newest version?
No. There is no verified official Adobe page distributing LogSession.dll as an individual download, and catalog-listed versions are not interchangeable. Reinstall the Adobe application so its installer supplies the required build.
Why does the error remain when the file is present?
The file may be corrupt, the wrong architecture, from another Adobe version, blocked by permissions, or dependent on another missing library. An invalid application manifest or a damaged installation can also produce a misleading filename. Repair the complete Adobe application rather than replacing the visible file.
Should I run System File Checker?
Only when there are broader signs of Windows corruption or the Adobe installer cannot work. SFC is not expected to restore a private Adobe library. Run DISM first, then SFC, and reinstall Adobe afterward if necessary.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is a 64-bit copy correct because I use 64-bit Windows?
Not necessarily. The Adobe application’s architecture determines the required DLL. A 32-bit application may require a 32-bit copy even on 64-bit Windows.
What information should I give support if nothing works?
Record the Adobe product and version, the full path to its executable, the complete error text, whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit, when the problem began, recent updates or migrations, antivirus quarantine history, whether multiple Adobe versions are installed, and whether the application is on a local or mapped drive. Also note whether repair and complete reinstallation changed the message.
