The main set uses the code DFT. Aetherdrift Commander cards use DRC, and Special Guests use SPG. Those codes help distinguish cards when browsing listings and deck databases, but they do not by themselves determine whether a card is legal in a format.
Special Guests and alternate-art treatments
Wizards’ Collecting Aetherdrift guide describes several distinct treatments. They do not all come from the same product, and Special Guests are not exclusive to Collector Boosters.

What comes in a first-place Box Topper
A Box Topper pack accompanies each Play Booster box, Collector Booster box, and Finish Line Bundle. Each pack contains two first-place foil cards: one full-art basic land and one rare or mythic rare. The latter can be a Special Guest, borderless card, or extended-art card.
The two Aetherdrift Commander decks
Wizards published the complete Aetherdrift Commander Decklists. Each is a ready-to-play 100-card deck and includes 10 cards new to Magic. Both also include two traditional-foil borderless commanders, ten double-sided tokens, a Collector Booster Sample Pack, a reference card, and a deck box.

| Deck | Color identity | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Living Energy | Green-blue-red | Saheeli, Radiant Creator and Pia Nalaar, Chief Mechanic are featured in the official deck materials. Consult the official list for all 100 cards and the exact card text before choosing it for a particular build. |
| Eternal Might | White-blue-black | The official list gives the full card contents and commanders. Check that list and the gallery to inspect the exact cards and identify its play patterns. |
The decklists are the reliable way to compare individual cards and themes; the available product information does not establish that one deck is stronger than the other. Choose between a complete prebuilt deck and building your own list based on whether you want a ready-to-play package or greater control over card selection.
Play Boosters or Collector Boosters?
Both products can contain DFT and SPG cards, but they serve different goals. Play Boosters are the Aetherdrift Draft and Sealed product; Collector Boosters concentrate more of the premium treatments.

- IT’S ONLY A DEATH RACE IF YOU DIE—Buckle up for a death race across the Multiverse full of high-octane action and adrenaline-fueled Magic gameplay
- STEP INTO THE WINNER’S CIRCLE—Rev up your decks and lead the pack with top-gear cards; Collector Boosters are the ultimate way to add unique and exclusive cards to your collection, with tons of foils, special card treatments, and more inside every pack
- COLLECTOR BOOSTER-EXCLUSIVE TREATMENTS—Collector Boosters are the only place you may find certain coveted card styles, including Collector Booster-exclusive foil treatments, Japan Showcase cards, or the grand prize: a special Serialized card printed with a unique number
- COLLECT ALT-BORDER CARDS—Turbo charge your collection with a grand total of 6 alternate-border cards in every Aetherdrift Collector Booster
- ALL GAS, NO BRAKES—Collect some the hardest-to-find cards and leave your competition in the dust with 5 cards of rarity Rare or higher in every pack
- Choose Play Boosters if you want to play limited formats or open packs with a chance at cards from the main set and non-foil Special Guests. A Play Booster box contains 30 Play Boosters and a first-place Box Topper pack.
- Choose Collector Boosters if your priority is premium variants, including Japan Showcase cards, traditional-foil Special Guests, and the serialized The Aetherspark treatment. They are not a guarantee of a particular card or treatment.
- Choose a Commander deck if you want a complete 100-card deck rather than packs to open or draft.
For a main-set rare/mythic rare slot in a Play Booster, Wizards’ collecting guide lists 60 rares (78%) and 20 mythic rares (13%), with the remaining listed possibilities being borderless rare or mythic rare. Those figures apply to that specified slot, not every slot in the booster, and do not promise any particular card.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Aetherdrift mechanics and format legality
Aetherdrift’s Speed mechanic begins when a player first controls a permanent with “start your engines!” As the January 31, 2025 release notes compiled by Jess Dunks put it: “The first time in a game that you control a permanent with start your engines!, your speed becomes 1.” After a player has speed, the speed trigger can raise it once per turn when one or more opponents lose life during that player’s turn, up to 4. Abilities marked “max speed” apply at that threshold.

Format legality changes over time. The Aetherdrift Release Notes record release-era legality, not a guarantee of what is legal now. Check Wizards’ current format pages before using a card in a sanctioned format.
