Shyvana’s visual and gameplay update went live in League of Legends patch 26.6 on March 18, 2026. It refreshed her model, effects, voice-over and skins as well as her abilities. Riot’s public milestones stretch back to a 2021 VGU poll, but “five years of waiting” describes the span of public discussion—not a verified five-year development schedule.
When did Shyvana’s rework come out?
Riot announced the update in its patch 26.6 notes on March 17, 2026, and it went live the following day, March 18. Riot’s 2026 patch schedule listed March 18 as the planned date and cautioned that scheduled dates can change.
Why is it described as five years of waiting?
The public trail begins with Riot’s January 2021 VGU poll, which included Shyvana. Riot described its goal as making her a warrior who transforms into a fire-breathing dragon, with a more formidable dragon form that felt distinct from her human form. That establishes an early public milestone, not the start date or total duration of development.
In February 2022, Riot said Skarner had won the poll and called Shyvana a strong possible candidate for a future update, but did not promise she would be next. In January 2024, Riot said it was aiming to release Shyvana’s VGU in 2025; the update ultimately arrived in March 2026. These dated announcements explain the long wait players saw without implying Riot had committed to a five-year schedule.

What changed in Shyvana’s rework?
The VGU updated Shyvana’s model, visual effects, voice-over and skins alongside her gameplay kit. Her revised abilities keep the human-to-dragon transformation central, while adding distinct effects and stronger ability upgrades in dragon form.
Passive — Scalemail
Takedowns on champions, large minions and monsters grant permanent armor and magic resistance stacks. Riot’s March 17 notes specified one stack for large monsters and siege minions, and three for champions and epic monsters.

How did Shyvana mains influence the update?
Riot said it brought Shyvana mains to its Los Angeles office to give feedback on gameplay, art and other parts of the update. According to Riot’s developer-update transcript, players wanted to keep Q’s attack reset and double hit—features that helped build Fury and clear wards. The redesigned Q retains an attack reset, and its recasts speed up with attacks; Riot also added area damage to support healthy clears.
Riot also described making basic attacks in dragon form look more draconic and scaling the size of the form and its abilities with ultimate rank. Its March 2026 pre-release explanation says the team worked with Shyvana mains to preserve what they liked while improving areas where they wanted changes.

Did Shyvana’s abilities change after release?
Yes. Riot’s March 17 release notes warned that ability numbers were still being tuned on the Public Beta Environment and might differ at launch. A March 20 mid-patch update adjusted passive resistances per stack, Q cooldown reduction and passive damage, W’s dragon-form healing, E damage and slow, and R fear duration. Treat numbers in the original notes as dated values, not a guarantee of the current balance state; later patches may have changed them again.
Is League Classic Shyvana the same rework?
No. Riot’s September 9, 2026 patch 26.18 notes include Shyvana in League Classic and describe a historical kit from 2011–2013. That is a separate historical version, not the 2026 VGU.
