Warhammer 40,000 Battlefields: Armageddon pre-painted terrain solves the least enjoyable part of starting a new table: getting a complete-looking battlefield ready. The box contains 28 ready-coloured terrain pieces, terrain footprints and folding, double-sided game boards. If your priority is playing quickly rather than painting scenery, that convenience can justify its premium price. If you already own terrain or enjoy the hobby work, the fixed factory finish is a much harder sell.
What Battlefields: Armageddon includes
Games Workshop describes Battlefields: Armageddon as a ready-painted terrain set. Each box contains 28 pieces divided among ruins, galvanic relays, capacitors and other Armageddon-themed elements, plus terrain-area footprints and folding, double-sided game boards. The stated goal is a complete Strike Force-sized battlefield rather than a small starter scatter-terrain pack.

The key convenience is that the colour is applied before the box reaches you. Games Workshop’s own description is: “It’s as easy as clipping them off the sprue, putting them together, then playing on a fully coloured, immersive battlefield.” You still have assembly to do, but the usual priming, basecoating and repeated terrain-painting sessions are not part of the setup path.

A table you can use immediately
Painting enough scenery for a full 40K table is a multi-session project, especially when you want ruins, blocking terrain and repeated visual elements to look consistent. Armageddon moves that work to the factory. For a new player, a club host or anyone who wants a game this weekend, removing the painting queue is the product’s strongest value.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A coherent battlefield without design work
The included footprints and boards reduce the number of decisions you must make before the first deployment: where terrain goes, how much table space it occupies and how to create a unified Armageddon atmosphere. That matters more than it sounds when you are building a collection from unrelated kits.
Repeatable setup
A defined set of footprints also makes it easier to recreate a layout after storage. You are not relying on memory to rebuild a table from dozens of individually painted pieces, although the fixed contents provide less variation than a large modular collection.

How much does it cost?
The official announcement does not state a price. Contemporary launch reporting puts the expected cost firmly in premium-terrain territory, and the figures are not interchangeable currencies or confirmed regional retail prices.
| Option | Reported price | What that figure represents | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battlefields: Armageddon | €320 | Wargames Fans’ report of the announced price for the ready-painted box | Higher upfront cost, but the terrain is coloured and the boards and footprints are included |
| Two unpainted Battlezone sets | €278 total | Two sets at €139 each, before primer, paint and hobby time, using Wargames Fans’ comparison | Lower purchase price, but you supply the finish and the labour |
| Battlefields: Armageddon launch estimate | Above $340 / £210 | Kai’s Castle estimate based on the cost of two Combat Patrol boxes | Estimate only; check the local launch price |
Using the €320 and €278 figures, the reported ready-painted premium is €42 before you account for paint, tools or your time. That is not a universal value calculation: regional pricing, availability and your existing hobby supplies can change the result substantially. Treat the dollar and pound numbers as launch estimates, not currency conversions or a current price guarantee.

Is there enough terrain for a 2,000-point game?
Games Workshop positions the contents as a full Strike Force battlefield. Kai’s Castle describes the box as covering a full Incursion-size, 2,000-point game. Those labels are not presented consistently in the available announcements, so do not treat the wording as a promise that every mission pack or table standard will use the same terrain density. The reliable takeaway is that the box is intended to provide a complete official battlefield layout, including boards and footprints, rather than only a handful of buildings.
Before buying for a league or event, compare the included footprint plan with that event’s current terrain rules. A box can supply a playable table while still requiring adjustments for a specific tournament layout, mission pack or house rule.

Where the premium is worth paying
- Time-poor players: You can move from clipping and assembly to a coloured table without scheduling a painting project.
- New hosts: The boards, footprints and themed pieces remove much of the planning burden involved in building a first battlefield.
- Players who want a unified look: The Armageddon theme is consistent out of the box.
- Groups that value repeatability: A defined set is easier to store and reconstruct than a loose assortment of scenery.
Who should skip it?
- Terrain painters: Unpainted kits offer control over colours, weathering and narrative details that a factory scheme cannot.
- Existing terrain owners: If your club or collection already fills a table, another large fixed set may add little practical value.
- Players needing cross-game flexibility: The Armageddon theme and official layout are more specialised than a neutral modular system.
- Highly customised tables: Mixing factory-coloured scenery with hand-painted barricades and accessories may require careful colour and atmosphere matching.
What is still unknown about the factory finish?
Contemporary coverage had not handled the kits, so several quality questions remain open rather than settled facts. Inspect the pieces for visible mould lines, sprue-attachment marks, manufacturing lines, paint cleanliness and consistency when you can see a physical set. It is also not established how naturally the finish blends with a collection that has been painted by hand.
Those uncertainties do not erase the convenience argument, but they do make this a different purchase from selecting unpainted terrain for a custom project. You are paying for speed and consistency, while accepting less control over the final surface.

How it compares with modular alternatives
Wargamer describes Snot Goblin Gaming’s FutureProof Terrain as modular components that clip together like Lego. It is offered in painted and unpainted versions, with reported strengths in storage, sturdy freestanding scenery and use across multiple systems. Its reported drawbacks are a less exact match to current 40K maps and uncertainty around campaign fulfilment. Wargamer reported a full-table pledge at $288 with a basic paint upgrade or $219 unpainted; those were time-sensitive Kickstarter terms, not a standing retail price.
| Priority | Battlefields: Armageddon | Modular FutureProof terrain |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest route to a coloured 40K table | Strong fit: ready-painted pieces, boards and footprints | Depends on version and whether you choose painted components |
| Layout specificity | Designed around the official Armageddon battlefield presentation | More flexible, but not as exact a match for current 40K maps |
| Storage and recombination | One defined collection with limited variation | Modular system is designed to recombine and store efficiently |
| Cross-game use | Primarily a 40K-themed solution | Reported as suitable for multiple systems |
| Painting control | Fixed factory scheme | Painted and unpainted options reported |
Archon Studio is another established maker of pre-painted dungeon tiles, but a current 40K-compatible product should be verified before treating it as a direct substitute.
My buying verdict
I’m convinced Battlefields: Armageddon is essential for a specific kind of 40K player: someone who wants a convincing full table now and sees painting terrain as a barrier rather than the main hobby. The 28-piece package, boards and footprints turn a normally long preparation project into an assembly task, and that is a meaningful benefit every time you host a game.
Recommended Free Tools
It is not an automatic must-buy. The premium over unpainted terrain is real, the exact local price still needs checking, and the factory finish may not suit a heavily customised collection. Buy it for saved time, coherent presentation and dependable setup—not because it offers the cheapest plastic or the greatest possible visual freedom.
