What Soul Binding does
Soul Binding modifies the stats attached to an equipment item. The system is separate from the labels that describe whether a claimed item can be shared between characters. In practical terms, Soul Binding lets you improve existing bound-stat values, replace one stat, reroll all listed stats, and—when the item and account meet the requirements—unlock an additional effect.

The official announcements establish the broad system behavior, but they do not publish a complete item-by-item cost chart or every sub-effect rule. Treat the exact numbers below as version-sensitive guidance rather than a permanent global price list.
Official rules that are currently established
Transfer carries Soul Binding effects
NCSOFT’s January 21, 2026 Season 2 announcement says equipment transfer moves an item’s breakthrough stage, enhancement stage, and Soul Binding effects to another item. NCSOFT limits each piece to a maximum of six transfers. The announcement does not explain every Soul Binding sub-effect, so the transfer confirmation window remains the authority for the specific item you are moving.

Additional effects require a fully bound item
NCSOFT’s February 11, 2026 announcement says an equipment item must reach 100% Soul Binding before players can apply additional Soul Binding effects. That operation consumes two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items. “100%” is a requirement for this announced additional-effect action; it should not be read as an official statement that every other Soul Binding operation has the same threshold.
Power stones have an item-specific use case
NCSOFT’s May 27, 2026 announcement names Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound) as a material that enables Soul Binding for Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. The announcement does not provide a complete mapping of which stone each equipment family uses. Read the item tooltip rather than assuming that Revelation and Power are interchangeable.
Costs and operations at a glance
The following figures are from the independent Aion 2 mechanics guide by Xtropolis, not from the NCSOFT announcements. The guide’s wording and item database examples indicate that costs can vary by item and step. Confirm the current in-game price, required material, and eligibility before clicking the action.

An item database example shows step-one pricing of 30,000 Kinah and 10 Soul Codex, with costs rising by step. That example is not a universal schedule. It demonstrates why multiplying a single displayed price by the number of slots can produce the wrong total.

How each Soul Binding operation works
Bind: increase an existing stat’s value
- Open the equipment’s Soul Binding tab and select an item that already has a bindable stat.
- Check the displayed Kinah and Soul Codex requirement for the current step; do not rely on the guide’s 30,000-Kinah example if your client shows a different amount.
- Confirm the action. The Xtropolis guide describes the action as succeeding while the amount of the stat increase is random.
- Compare the resulting value with the previous value and decide whether to continue, Sync, or Reset.
No official announcement reviewed for this article gives a universal limit on the number of Bind actions or a published success-rate table. A per-item or regional cap should therefore be treated as unconfirmed unless your client displays one.
Sync: replace one stat
- Choose Sync in the Soul Binding tab and identify the single stat you want to replace.
- Provide the Sync Stone or same-grade gear specified by the item and your client.
- Review the preview of the replacement stat and its cost before confirming.
- Keep a screenshot or note of the old stat if the item is valuable; Sync changes only the selected stat, but the result may still be worse for your build.
The guide describes the material options but does not establish one universal Sync Stone grade or a complete list of compatible gear. Item tooltips take precedence.
Reset: reroll every listed stat
- Select Reset and inspect the list of stats that will be affected.
- Verify that the item requests Soul Codex: Reset and that you have enough of it.
- Confirm only if you are prepared to lose all current Soul Binding stat lines, including lines that were expensive to improve.
- Recheck the new result before spending further materials on Bind or Sync.
The evidence does not establish a universal Reset limit, guaranteed stat range, or success-rate statistic. Do not assume that a Reset preserves one favored line.

Unlocking an extra slot
Xtropolis says every base slot must be maxed before the extra slot becomes available. Its listed example is 1,000,000 Kinah plus two Philosopher’s Stones. This is separate from NCSOFT’s officially announced additional-effect action, which specifically names 100% Soul Binding and two Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation items. Because the guide does not identify a single stone type for every item, inspect the current item requirement before buying or farming materials.

Can Soul Binding be transferred to new gear?
Yes, within the official transfer system. NCSOFT says transfer moves breakthrough, enhancement, and Soul Binding effects from one equipment piece to another, and each piece has a six-transfer maximum.
The detailed treatment of individual Soul Binding lines is less certain. The Xtropolis guide says base Soul Binding stats transfer at their bound values, while the extra stat unlocked with Philosopher’s Stones does not transfer. NCSOFT’s announcement does not state that exception. Before confirming, read the live transfer preview line by line; if the preview omits an extra effect, assume it will remain behind rather than relying on a general description of transfer.
Transfer eligibility and cost can also depend on the donor and recipient items. The item database that documents step-based costs explicitly cautions that behavior beyond donor eligibility and costs is unverified. Do not infer that every weapon, armor piece, or accessory can receive every Soul Binding effect.

Which Philosopher’s Stone does an item need?
There is no complete stone-to-item chart established by the announcements cited here. Two requirements are specifically documented:
- Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation: two are required for the officially announced additional-effect operation once the item reaches 100% Soul Binding.
- Philosopher’s Stone: Power (Bound): NCSOFT identifies this material for Soul Binding on Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear in its May 27, 2026 update.
The guide’s extra-slot example says “two Philosopher’s Stones” without establishing that the stones are always Revelation or Power. Treat the item tooltip as the final authority for stone name, bound status, quantity, and whether the operation is available in your regional patch.
What “character bound,” “class bound,” and “server bound” mean
NCSOFT’s support FAQ uses these labels for claimed items, including Founder’s Pack items. They describe sharing rules, not the Soul Binding stat process:

These labels should not automatically be treated as synonyms for Soul Binding. An item may have a sharing restriction while also having Soul Binding stats, but the two systems answer different questions: who can receive the claimed item, and what stat operations can be performed on its equipment.
How to decide whether to bind, sync, reset, or transfer
If the item is temporary
Use only low-commitment actions that solve an immediate problem. Avoid spending rare Philosopher’s Stones or paying for an extra slot if you already expect to replace the item. Check whether the item can be transferred before investing; a future transfer can change the value of expensive work.

If the item is your long-term piece
First confirm its eligibility, stone type, and transfer behavior. Then improve acceptable stat lines with Bind, replace one clearly unwanted line with Sync, and reserve Reset for a result you are willing to lose completely. Consider the extra slot only after the base slots are maxed and the item’s future role is clear.
If you plan to move progression soon
Open the transfer interface before using high-value materials. Compare donor and recipient names, inspect every transferred effect, and note anything absent from the preview. The official six-transfer ceiling makes the timing of each move important, even though the announcements do not specify a universal cost formula.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Using a flat price as a total: step-based database examples show that costs can rise. Read the current step rather than budgeting from the first displayed amount.
- Assuming every Philosopher’s Stone works everywhere: Revelation and Power have different documented use cases. Match the exact tooltip.
- Resetting to fix one bad stat: Reset rerolls all listed stats; use Sync when only one line is the problem.
- Assuming the extra stat transfers: the non-transfer rule comes from a third-party guide, not the official announcement. Verify the preview.
- Confusing bound labels with Soul Binding: character, class, and server bound describe sharing after claiming, not stat rerolls or enhancement values.
- Expecting an official universal action cap: no reviewed official source publishes a general Bind, Sync, or Reset limit. Treat any cap shown in a guide as item- or patch-specific until confirmed in game.
A safe pre-confirmation checklist
- Read the item tooltip for the exact Philosopher’s Stone name, quantity, and bound status.
- Record the current Soul Binding stat lines and values.
- Check whether you are using Bind, Sync, Reset, or an extra-slot action; each affects a different scope of the item.
- Open the transfer preview if the equipment may move to another item later.
- Confirm the displayed Kinah and material cost in the active regional client.
- Proceed only after verifying that the result fits the item’s intended lifespan and your remaining materials.
What is still version-sensitive
Official announcements currently establish transfer of Soul Binding effects, the six-transfer maximum, the 100% requirement and two Revelation stones for the announced additional-effect action, and the Power (Bound) use case for Genesis/Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. They do not establish a complete cost table, a universal action cap, a full eligibility list, or the exact treatment of every extra stat during transfer.
For those details, use the live item tooltip, Soul Binding tab, and transfer preview in your region. Third-party guides and databases are useful for understanding the operation names and likely material categories, but their figures can become stale after a patch or differ between regional clients.
