What the release years mean for your playthrough
The dates are useful because they settle several common order questions. The first three games arrived in consecutive years, 1987 through 1989. The next numbered release was Larry 5 in 1991, followed by Larry 6 in 1993 and Larry 7 in 1996. That gap is a gap between releases, not evidence that a fourth playable chapter is missing from your collection. If a catalog or fan list displays a “Larry 4” line, read it as the series’ joke reference rather than an installation requirement.
Why you should not insert a fictional Larry 4
The absence of a fourth release is part of the series’ humor. Do not treat “The Case of the Missing Floppies” as a lost game, a downloadable chapter, or a story gap that requires outside material. After Larry 3, go directly to Larry 5. The 1997 Leisure Suit Larry: Collection Series likewise presents games 1–6 while excluding the never-released 4; its package also included The Official Book of Leisure Suit Larry, which is a collectible companion rather than a required continuation.
That collection detail is helpful when comparing old listings: seeing “1–6” on a package does not mean the publisher quietly restored a Larry 4. It reflects the six released games in the first part of the numbered run. How the connected games fit together
Softporn Adventure (1981): an optional precursor
Softporn Adventure predates the named Leisure Suit Larry series and is often discussed as its precursor. It can provide historical context for the premise and design lineage, but it is not the first game carrying the Leisure Suit Larry title and is not required before Land of the Lounge Lizards. The first named Leisure Suit Larry game arrived in 1987. Background listings appear in the PCGamingWiki series index and the MobyGames series listing.
Think of Softporn Adventure as franchise history, not chapter zero in the Laffer storyline. Starting there is reasonable for a preservation-minded player, but skipping it does not remove any necessary setup from the six-game Sierra sequence.
Reloaded (2013): a remake, not Larry 8
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded retells the first game. It is an updated way into the opening premise, not the next numbered sequel and not a replacement number in the 1–7 sequence. If you choose it, proceed to Larry 2 afterward. Playing both Land of the Lounge Lizards and Reloaded is optional; doing so makes sense mainly if you want to compare the original presentation with its remake.

For an order list, count Reloaded as an alternate version of step one. Do not count it as an additional chapter between Larry 7 and a supposed Larry 8. A player who starts with the remake can still follow the same story path by moving to the 1988 second game.

These games center on Larry Lovage, Larry Laffer’s nephew, rather than continuing the original protagonist-led numbered adventures. They share the franchise’s comedy and setting associations, but they should be treated as spin-offs. Do not place either title between Larry 7 and a supposed Larry 8 when you are following Laffer’s story. The name similarity is the main source of confusion: “Larry” does not automatically mean “the next Laffer chapter.” If your goal is the original Sierra continuity, finish Larry 7 first and consider these games separately. Wet Dreams Don’t Dry (2018) and Wet Dreams Dry Twice (2020)
The two Wet Dreams games form a later pair. Start with Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, then play Wet Dreams Dry Twice; contemporary coverage describes the second as following the first. They are later entries associated with Larry, but they do not change the recommended Sierra-era order of 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.
Because these games are a two-title sequence, beginning with Dry Twice reverses their internal order. You do not have to complete Softporn Adventure, Reloaded, or either Lovage spin-off before starting the first Wet Dreams game. Choose Reloaded for a remake entry point
Choose Reloaded if you prefer a remake presentation while beginning with the same opening premise. It still leads naturally into Larry 2, but it is not a new numbered installment. This gives you the intended two-game sequence without requiring every earlier spin-off. It is a sensible choice for readers who want a modern pair rather than a six-game historical marathon.
Availability and delisting caveat
Store listings change by date, region, and storefront, so historical catalogs should not be read as a current purchase guarantee. PC Gamer reported on October 9, 2026 that publisher Assemble Entertainment had announced the two Wet Dreams titles would be removed from Steam on October 23, 2026. The same report said the original Larry games had been removed from sale in 2025. That information is time-sensitive and does not establish availability in every country or on every storefront. See the dated report at PC Gamer before making a platform decision.
The October 23 date is a scheduled Steam removal, not proof that every copy everywhere disappears on that day. Likewise, a title’s presence in a 1997 collection or an older series index does not guarantee that the same package is currently sold. Check the specific storefront, operating-system requirements, region, and edition you intend to use. The available sources do not provide a complete, current platform-by-platform catalog for every game.
