aipostman.dll is an Adobe application file, most commonly associated with Adobe Illustrator, and its absence usually means the Adobe installation is damaged, incomplete, or blocked. Do not download the DLL from a random website or copy it into System32; repair or reinstall the Adobe application that owns it.
What this file actually does
aipostman.dll is a private Adobe DLL used by Illustrator and potentially other Adobe Creative Cloud applications that share Illustrator components. Public Adobe crash reports show it loaded from an Adobe application directory beside other Illustrator modules.

It is not a Windows component, Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, or normal System32 or SysWOW64 library. Windows normally searches an application’s own directory before system folders, so a correctly installed copy should remain with the Adobe program that needs it.

Causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| “AIPostman.dll is missing” when Illustrator starts | Damaged or incomplete Adobe installation | Update or reinstall Illustrator through Creative Cloud |
| Illustrator crashes during startup | Incompatible plug-in, preferences, or an update conflict | Remove third-party plug-ins and reset preferences |
BrushManagerUI.aip is mentioned |
Stale or incompatible Illustrator plug-in | Back up and remove the plug-in, then repair Illustrator |
| The error began after an update or rollback | Mixed files from different Adobe builds | Perform a clean reinstall |
| Defender shows the file in Protection history | Quarantine or deletion by security software | Verify the Adobe path, then restore only if safe |
The message names VCRUNTIME or MSVCP |
Missing Visual C++ dependency, not necessarily AIPostman | Install the correct official Visual C++ Redistributable |
| The file is outside an Adobe folder | Suspicious or unrelated copy | Scan it and do not restore or register it |
| Windows reports several system files are damaged | Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
The exact wording varies by Windows version and Adobe build. Common variants include “AIPostman.dll was not found,” “The program can’t start because AIPostman.dll is missing,” and “code execution cannot continue.”
Fix aipostman.dll errors in order
1. Update Illustrator through Creative Cloud
An update may replace a damaged module or bring the application and its plug-ins back to compatible versions.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps.
- Open All Apps.
- Find Illustrator.
- Select Update if an update is available.
- Restart Windows after the update finishes.
- Launch Illustrator again.
If Illustrator opens, the problem was likely an incomplete or inconsistent installation. If the same error remains, continue with preference and plug-in checks rather than downloading the DLL separately.
2. Reset Illustrator preferences
Corrupted preferences can cause Illustrator to fail before its interface appears.
If Illustrator opens:
- Select Edit.
- Choose Preferences.
- Select General.
- Choose Reset Preferences.
- Restart Illustrator.
If it will not open, hold Alt+Ctrl+Shift while launching Illustrator. Confirm the preference reset if Illustrator displays a prompt.
A reset removes customized settings, so record important workspace, keyboard shortcut, and plug-in preferences first. If Illustrator launches normally afterward, restore custom settings gradually. If it still crashes, continue with plug-in cleanup.
3. Remove incompatible third-party plug-ins
Adobe Community reports have connected AIPostman.dll startup failures with BrushManagerUI.aip and update-related plug-in problems.

- Close Illustrator and Creative Cloud.
- Open the Illustrator installation folder shown in Creative Cloud or in the shortcut’s Properties.
- Locate the Plug-ins folder.
- Create a temporary folder elsewhere, such as
Illustrator Plug-ins Backup. - Move third-party plug-ins into that backup folder.
- Leave Adobe’s own files in place.
- Start Illustrator.
If Illustrator now opens, return plug-ins one at a time and restart after each addition. The plug-in that brings the error back is incompatible with the installed Illustrator build. Obtain an updated version from its original developer or leave it removed.
If the file is still missing after third-party plug-ins are removed, the application installation itself needs repair.
4. Uninstall and reinstall Illustrator from Creative Cloud
This is the most reliable fix for a missing or corrupted Adobe-private DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps and then All Apps.
- Find Illustrator.
- Select the three-dot More actions menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Select Install beside Illustrator.
- Launch Illustrator after installation completes.
Back up custom plug-ins, actions, brushes, presets, and workspaces before uninstalling. If Creative Cloud offers an option to retain preferences, retaining them may preserve settings, but clearing corrupted preferences is preferable when the failure began after a crash or update.
A successful reinstall should place the DLL inside the Adobe application directory and allow Illustrator to start without a missing-file message. If the installer fails, leaves old files behind, or the error returns immediately, use the Cleaner Tool.
5. Use Adobe’s Cleaner Tool for a failed clean reinstall
A normal uninstall can leave application files, plug-ins, or installation metadata that interfere with the next installation.
Use this procedure when reinstalling Illustrator normally did not help:
- Back up Adobe projects, presets, and custom plug-ins.
- Uninstall Illustrator from Creative Cloud.
- Download Adobe’s official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool from Adobe Support.
- Close Creative Cloud and other Adobe applications.
- Run the Cleaner Tool as an administrator.
- Select the affected Creative Cloud or Illustrator installation.
- Follow the cleanup prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Install or repair the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Install Illustrator again.
- Test Illustrator before restoring third-party plug-ins.
The Cleaner Tool removes Adobe installation remnants. It does not repair a random copy of aipostman.dll, and it should not be used casually without backing up settings and confirming that Adobe applications can be reinstalled afterward.

6. Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a file after an update, even when the file was previously present.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
AIPostman.dllor an Adobe installation folder. - Expand the event and inspect the full path and detection name.
Only consider restoring the file if it is located inside the genuine Adobe installation directory, the Adobe installation is current, and a scan shows the system is clean. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined threat can cause it to be detected again.
If the event identifies the file as malicious, or the path is outside Adobe’s folder, do not restore it. Run a full scan and reinstall Illustrator from Creative Cloud instead. A clean reinstall is safer than trusting a quarantined binary.
7. Distinguish AIPostman from Visual C++ errors
Read the complete error message. If it names only AIPostman.dll, reinstalling Illustrator is the appropriate response. If it names files such as VCRUNTIME140.dll, MSVCP140.dll, or another Visual C++ component, the problem may be a missing runtime dependency.
Install the supported Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft, matching the package required by the affected Adobe build. A 64-bit Windows installation does not prove that every Adobe module is 64-bit, so match the runtime to the application rather than choosing based only on Windows.
Installing Visual C++ will not recreate a missing Adobe-private DLL. If both types of errors appear, repair the runtime and reinstall Illustrator.
8. Repair Windows components
Windows repair commands can fix damaged Windows servicing files, but they do not normally replace AIPostman.dll.

- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Illustrator.
DISM should run before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test again. If it cannot repair some files, install pending Windows updates and repeat the repair once. If the commands complete successfully but Illustrator still reports AIPostman.dll, return to the Adobe reinstall path.

Running these commands manually can be slow and makes it difficult to identify which repair changed the system. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it found; its repair functions require the full version, and reinstalling Illustrator remains the definitive fix for this Adobe-specific DLL.
9. Check graphics drivers only when Illustrator points to graphics problems
A graphics driver is not a normal cause of a missing AIPostman.dll, but an outdated or incompatible driver can cause Illustrator startup crashes, Safe Mode launches, or GPU-related failures alongside the DLL message.
To update manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
For the most reliable driver, use the graphics processor manufacturer’s official support page and match the package to your Windows architecture. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and identify the relevant update; its driver installation requires the full version, and a driver update will not replace a missing Adobe DLL.
10. Consider System Restore after a recent system change
If Illustrator worked until a driver, Windows update, or application change, System Restore may reverse that change without removing personal documents.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure began.
- Review affected applications and drivers.
- Confirm the restore.
- Restart Windows and test Illustrator.
System Restore is not a replacement for reinstalling Adobe. Use it when the timing clearly points to a recent system change and other repairs have not resolved the startup failure.

Random DLL download pages can provide the wrong build, wrong architecture, modified files, or a file with missing dependencies. Copying one into System32 or SysWOW64 also places an application-private component where it does not belong.
Windows searches the application directory before system directories in normal DLL loading scenarios. The correct copy should therefore be installed beside the Adobe executable by Creative Cloud.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not use regsvr32 for this problem. That command is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that AIPostman.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component. Registering it is unlikely to repair Illustrator and can produce a second, misleading error.
32-bit and 64-bit considerations
Do not assume that every Adobe DLL is 64-bit merely because Windows is 64-bit. The correct architecture belongs to the exact Illustrator or Adobe build installed on the computer.
Do not replace a file based on a reported size or version from a third-party inventory. Those values are not universal Adobe package guarantees. Let Creative Cloud install the matching file and dependencies.
Best Value
If the error appears in an Adobe application other than Illustrator, identify that application first. Shared Adobe components can appear in more than one Creative Cloud product, and repairing the wrong application may not replace the file that is actually being loaded.
