What is Ajarakan weak to?
Water is the only element listed as a weakness in the Ver. 1.042 Ajarakan database, verified September 6, 2026. Its one-star rating indicates a limited elemental advantage, not a reason to choose an unfamiliar weapon over one you can use effectively. Fire, Thunder, Ice, and Dragon are not marked as weaknesses in that entry. MHWILDSBUILD.com’s Ajarakan database lists the following hitzone values:

These are game hitzone values, not percentages of health removed. The database’s separate softer-parts summary gives the front legs a 48% raw value and the tail tip 45%; those summary figures are distinct from the attack-type values in the table. The back and rear legs are poorer raw targets than the front legs and tail tip in the listed table.
Where do you find Ajarakan?
Ajarakan is listed in the Oilwell Basin and Ruins of Wyveria. In the Oilwell Basin, environmental objects such as pipes can also matter during the encounter. Heat from Ajarakan can drain hunter health nearby; Cool Drinks or Chillmantle Bugs are listed as ways to counter that heat. The database entry supplies the locales and heat-counter details.

How to deal with Ajarakan’s heated carapace
Ajarakan heats its carapace through friction. When the shell is molten, ordinary arrows and ammunition can melt on impact rather than penetrate normally. Ranged hunters can strike the shell with Watermoss to cool it, or use heat-resistant equipment. Cooling the carapace is a separate concern from choosing Water as an element: one addresses the shell’s state, the other the monster’s listed elemental weakness. The shell and heat guidance is described in the database.
How to handle Ajarakan’s attacks
Ajarakan is aggressive and combines charges, slams, tail attacks, and explosive boulders. The following move guidance comes from Icy Veins’ Ajarakan guide, last updated May 12, 2025.
Charges and forward slams
Do not stay committed to an attack when Ajarakan begins a charge. The guide calls out a shoulder-slam charge and a forward-slam charge. Respond with the dodge, guard, counter, or offset suited to your weapon, then attack during the recovery rather than trying to trade hits through the move.
Explosive boulders
Ajarakan throws two explosive boulders in succession. The throws can be dodged, and moving toward the monster during the sequence can create a brief opening to attack its face. Close the distance only with enough time and space to react to its next action.

Tail attacks
Tail thrusts and slams punish hunters who linger behind Ajarakan. Favor its front legs when position allows; if you are using a weapon that can sever the tail, the guide says cutting it early can reduce its reach.
Enraged attacks
In its enraged state, Ajarakan adds fire and molten attacks, including a straight-line molten wave and a large explosion. Avoid or counter the attack pattern, then use the recovery to resume attacking rather than committing during the windup.

- Reach and positioning: Choose a weapon with which you can reliably hit the front legs or tail tip; the head is also a useful slash and blunt target.
- Defense and timing: Consider whether your weapon lets you comfortably dodge, guard, counter, or offset Ajarakan’s charge patterns.
- Ranged shell plan: If you use arrows or ordinary ammunition, be prepared to cool the molten shell with Watermoss or use heat-resistant equipment.
