To play it, you need Alan Wake 2 and its Expansion Pass; Remedy recommends finishing the main game first. It is not sold as a standalone DLC, according to Epic Games Support.
What is the Night Springs expansion?
Night Springs is a set of three playable episodes framed as installments of the fictional television series in Alan Wake’s world. Remedy says Alan writes their scripts from visions while trapped in the Dark Place. The episodes are more experimental and lighter in tone than the main game, and their stories provide context around its world without simply continuing Saga’s or Alan’s journeys.

As Lead Writer Clay Murphy put it in an Epic Games Store interview, the expansions let Remedy experiment with stranger sides of the setting and tell stories that provide context without necessarily continuing the protagonists’ journeys.
What happens in each episode?
Each episode follows a Night Springs version of a familiar character. These are stories Alan has shaped from visions, not straightforward continuations of those characters’ original plots.

How to get and unlock Night Springs
You need both Alan Wake 2 and the Expansion Pass. Remedy’s FAQ says, “The episodes are unlocked automatically if you own the Expansion Pass.” Once you have the pass, select episodes from Expansions in the main menu, or find marked televisions during Casey, Room 665, and Zane’s Film.
- Already own the digital Standard Edition: Get the Deluxe Upgrade, where offered for your platform and region. The upgrade includes the Expansion Pass.
- Buying digitally: The digital Deluxe Edition includes the Expansion Pass; check the store listing for your platform and region.
- Want a physical copy: The Alan Wake 2 Physical Deluxe Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series includes the base game and Expansion Pass. Remedy says the game and expansions require an additional download.
Remedy’s FAQ lists the Physical Deluxe Edition’s recommended retail price as $79.99 / €79.99 / £64.99, and the limited Physical Collector’s Edition at $199.99. These are recommended retail prices in the FAQ, not confirmation of current store prices or availability. The Collector’s Edition also includes the Expansion Pass.
Epic Games Support says the Night Springs and The Lake House expansions cannot be purchased individually. If you want only Night Springs, there is no standalone DLC purchase route described by that support page.
Rank #3
Should you finish the main game first?
Yes, if you want the intended context. Remedy recommends completing Alan Wake 2 before starting Night Springs, warning that playing beforehand may leave you without context for what happens at the ending. This is a recommendation, not an unlock requirement: pass owners can select the episodes from the menu.
Are there new trophies or achievements?
Yes. Remedy’s FAQ lists four new trophies or achievements for each of the three episodes, for 12 total.

Does Night Springs continue the main story?
Not as a direct sequel to Saga’s or Alan’s journeys. The episodes explore alternate, stylized versions of familiar characters and add context to the game’s world. Remedy describes paid expansions as supplemental to the complete base-game story, rather than necessary to experience that story’s intended whole.
