When Alienware Command Center (AWCC) will not open, crashes, or cannot control your lighting, fans, display, keyboard, mouse, or headset, start with a full Windows restart and your model-specific Dell updates. If that does not help, repair AWCC Package Manager, add missing device packages, and only then perform a clean reinstall.
These fixes apply mainly to Windows 11 and model-compatible AWCC packages. Dell’s current AWCC 6.x releases are distributed for specific computers and configurations—not as one universal installer. The AWCC 6.x package identified by Dell during this research is version 6.14.4.0, A00, released May 21, 2026. Check your exact model or Service Tag before downloading it.

Before you troubleshoot AWCC
AWCC is more than one Windows app. Its Package Manager installs separate components for the computer and connected Alienware peripherals. The main window can therefore open normally while lighting controls, thermal profiles, displays, keyboards, mice, or headsets remain unavailable.

Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Dell’s current AWCC 6.x packages list Windows 11 as the supported operating system. If you are using Windows 10—especially after a clean installation—some AWCC packages may need to be installed manually.

1. Restart Windows and install the correct Dell updates
Perform a full restart first. Closing the lid, signing out, or putting the computer to sleep is not the same as restarting Windows. This is especially important if AWCC stopped working after a Windows update, BIOS change, driver update, or hardware connection.
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
- Open Dell Support and enter your computer’s Service Tag, or select Browse all products.
- Open Drivers & Downloads > Find drivers.
- Check Application for AWCC, then install applicable BIOS, chipset, and device updates.
Do not install the newest-looking AWCC package at random. Dell filters packages by system and configuration, so the correct version for your Alienware computer may differ from the version for another model.
2. Repair Alienware Command Center Package Manager
Use Package Manager’s repair function when AWCC opens but features or peripherals are missing. This is different from Windows’ generic app repair because it reinstalls selected AWCC feature packages.

- Choose the AWCC features that need to be reinstalled.
- Select Repair, then Finish.
- Restart if prompted and test AWCC.
If the program opens but a keyboard, mouse, headset, or monitor is absent, use Modify > Add Packages instead. Package Manager scans the computer and connected peripherals, then installs missing device-specific components.

3. Repair or reset the Windows AWCC app
If AWCC fails to launch, closes immediately, or displays a damaged interface, try Windows 11’s app repair options.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Alienware Command Center.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, then test AWCC.
- If it still fails, return to the same screen and select Reset.
Repair attempts to fix the app without removing its data. Reset can remove stored app data, so profiles or preferences may need to be recreated. If AWCC appears only as a traditional desktop program, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, right-click the AWCC entry, and select Repair or Change.
4. Update Microsoft Store and clear its cache
Older AWCC 5.x installations can use Microsoft Store for updates and additional components. Store problems can therefore prevent older installations from updating correctly, although current AWCC 6.x packages are also available through Dell as model-specific executable installers.
To enable Store updates:
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select your profile icon.
- Choose App settings.
- Turn on App updates.
To clear the Store cache:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close and Microsoft Store to open.
- Restart Windows, then install available Store updates.
wsreset.exe resets the Microsoft Store cache. It does not repair every AWCC service or reinstall all missing device packages.

5. Completely remove and reinstall AWCC
Use a clean reinstall when AWCC is corrupted, its service is missing, Package Manager repair fails, or the installer repeatedly rolls back. Sign in with an administrator account first.
- Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall Alienware Command Center.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%appdata%, and delete any Alienware folder if present. - Repeat with
%programdata%. - Check
C:Program FilesAlienwareand delete the Command Center folder only. - On older installations, also check
C:Program Files (x86). - In Documents, delete the AlienFX and Alienware TactX folders if they remain.
- Restart the computer.
- Return to Dell Support, select the exact computer or Service Tag, and download the applicable Alienware Command Center Application under Drivers & Downloads > Application.
- Run the downloaded
.exeand restart after installation.
Do not delete unrelated Dell folders, manually remove registry keys, or alter services unless Dell Support specifically directs you to do so. Uninstalling the visible app alone is not always a complete removal.
6. Connect peripherals before installation and add their packages afterward
AWCC may not install device-specific components when a keyboard, mouse, headset, or monitor is disconnected or inactive during setup.

AW2725QF monitor detection issue
Dell documents a specific problem with the Alienware AW2725QF monitor and AWCC versions 6.2.7.0 or earlier: the system may fail to upgrade AWCC while the monitor is connected, leaving the display absent from AlienFX. Update AWCC from the computer’s Dell Support page rather than replacing the monitor.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. Install AWCC from a clean boot
Third-party startup programs and services can block AWCC installation. Dell lists security software, Corsair iCUE, other applications using shared Windows/UWP files, external or secondary drives, outdated BIOS versions, and non-administrator accounts as possible causes of installation failures.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
msconfig, and select OK. - Open the Services tab.
- Select Hide all Microsoft services, then select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable enabled third-party startup items.
- Close Task Manager, select OK, and restart.
- Repair or install AWCC from the Dell installer.
- After testing, open
msconfigagain and select Normal startup.
Temporarily disabling antivirus software can help identify an installation conflict, but do this only for a test with an installer downloaded from Dell. Re-enable protection afterward.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor installation error 1603, close Microsoft Store, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge, Calculator, Microsoft Tips, and other UWP apps before retrying; they may hold shared files required by the installer.

8. Follow the fix for the exact installer error
Package DCS Error
Dell documented a Package DCS Error for AWCC 6.3 when Dell Core Services Installer could not close Dell.Core.Services.Client.exe and related processes.
- Select OK when the error appears.
- Allow installation to continue.
- If you selected Cancel and installation stopped, rerun the Dell update package.
- On the maintenance screen, select Add Packages.
The original issue was documented for AWCC 6.3, and later releases were intended to address it, so use the current model-specific Dell package rather than deliberately installing an old 6.3 release.
Package AWCCSmartInstaller Error
This error indicates that the installer could not read a plugin file. Select OK to cancel, then run the installer again. Dell also documented a device-detection problem in AWCC 6.3.7.0 related to the AWCCSmartInstaller migration; the resolution was to update to AWCC 6.4 or later.
Error applying transforms
If the installer shows an error such as Error applying transforms followed by a path ending in .MST, use Dell’s troubleshooting sequence:
- Perform a clean boot.
- Update the BIOS from Dell Support.
- Remove and reinstall AWCC.
- Try a new administrator account.
- Temporarily disable conflicting security software.
- Close or remove potentially conflicting tools such as iCUE.
- Disconnect external or secondary drives.
- Restart and run the correct Dell installer again.
Do not download an unrelated transform file or edit the registry as a first-line fix. Dell’s documented procedure does not require either action.
What not to assume about AWCC
- It is not updated only through Microsoft Store: Dell also distributes full AWCC installers through the computer’s Support page.
- The newest version is not universal: AWCC packages are model- and configuration-specific.
- A missing device is not proof of hardware failure: package installation and detection problems are documented causes.
- AWCCService does not need a universal startup-type change: Dell’s current repair and reinstall instructions do not tell every user to change it from delayed start to automatic.
- A Windows 10 reset may not restore every component: manual installation and package addition may be required.
Which fix should you try first?
| Symptom | Best starting point |
|---|---|
| AWCC stopped after an update or hardware change | Restart Windows, then install Windows, BIOS, and Dell updates. |
| AWCC opens but a device is missing | Run Package Manager repair or Add Packages with the device connected. |
| AWCC crashes or will not launch | Use Windows app Repair, then Reset if necessary. |
| Installation rolls back or the service is missing | Perform the complete removal and reinstall. |
| Installation shows 1603, DCS, SmartInstaller, or transform errors | Use the matching error-specific procedure and a clean boot where applicable. |
If all eight methods fail, record your Alienware model, Windows version, AWCC version, exact error text, and whether Windows detects the affected peripheral. That information will make Dell Support troubleshooting substantially more precise.
