They count toward the “Riddles of the Ancients” Discovery, can be collected in any order, and are not permanently missable, so you can return to clean up anything you missed. Several are hidden behind story progress, underground routes, puzzles, or the “Secret of Giants” Fieldwork quest.
The numbered route below follows Gameranx’s January 6, 2025 walkthrough; the total and broad area breakdown are also corroborated by IGN’s Vatican locations video. These are fictional in-game collectibles, not real Vatican artifacts.
Where to find the 10 Vatican City Ancient Relics
The relics below are numbered for cross-reference, not because they must be collected in this sequence. Some are straightforward pickups; others require story progression or solving a local puzzle.
1. Apostolic Library underground
After meeting Father Antonio, enter the hidden underground section of the Apostolic Library. On the library’s first floor, use the Giant’s Pendant to open the hidden passage and follow it to the alchemist’s lab. In the southeast room, check the corner of the table for the relic.

2. Tower of Nicholas V crypt
During “The Stolen Cat Mummy,” continue through the Tower of Nicholas V crypt. After taking the Giant’s Parchment from the coffin and seeing the bulldozer fall into the excavation area, regain control and look for a wooden beam. Use the whip to rappel and swing into a small opening in the wall; the relic is inside.
3. Flooded chambers below Relic 2
From the water beneath the second relic, swim east through the chambers. Take the first left, then turn right twice to reach a hole with water running down it. The torch route is easy to lose, so follow these steps:
- Go through the nearby doors to find a second hole.
- Throw a lit torch through that hole.
- Return to the hole with water running down it and slide through.
- Retrieve the torch and burn the wooden door opposite to reach the relic.
4. Necropolis pedestal gate after the chandelier
Continue underground past the chandelier swing, then turn right. Pick up the nearby bust and place it on its pedestal to raise the gate on the left. The relic is behind that gate.
5. Upper room in the mural chamber
In the chamber with the large wall mural and two wooden walkways, use the whip to climb to the second beam rather than continuing from the first. The relic is in the upper room beside a statue.
6. Linked bust puzzle past the crawl hole
Return to the first wooden walkway in the mural room. Follow the hallway past the small crawl hole and enter the second door on the left. Take the bust inside and put it on the pedestal beside the first door you passed after the hole. Enter the opened door, use a two-handed weapon to break the weak wall, and take the other bust from its pedestal. Place that bust on the pedestal in the room you just opened; the nearby gate opens to the relic.
7. “Secret of Giants” Fieldwork reward
This relic is a quest reward, not a room pickup. Photograph all 10 Strange Inscriptions around Vatican City to complete “Secret of Giants.” Return to Father Antonio’s office and put the photos on the board; the relic will be on his desk.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you return for relics you missed?
Yes. Gameranx’s walkthrough says the Vatican City relics can be collected in any order and are not permanently missable. If you advance past one of the underground routes or puzzle rooms without finding its relic, return when you can access the area again and use the numbered locations above to identify what remains.
What to do if the relic counter or map marker looks wrong
Bethesda’s Update 3 notes document fixes for two historical issues: the “Riddles of the Ancients” counter failing to update after the final relic, and some Ancient Relic markers not appearing on Vatican and Sukhothai maps. The notes describe fixes, not ongoing problems. If your count seems stale, confirm the pickup and check the tracked Discovery or relevant local map rather than assuming the relic is still missing based on the counter alone.
