Grow a Garden does not give every crop just one plant type. Its plant types work as overlapping tags, so one crop can belong to several categories at once. For example, Pineapple is indexed as Fruit, Prickly, Stalky, Summer, Sweet, and Tropical.
The current plant-type index reviewed for this guide contains 26 categories and 502 total category assignments. That number is not the number of unique plants: overlapping tags mean the same crop may be counted several times. Other databases list 401 or 463 crop records because they use different rules for limited crops, event variants, and database entries.

Total: 502 category assignments across 26 plant-type pages. Because a crop can appear in multiple rows, adding these categories does not give a unique-crop total.
The largest plant-type categories
The biggest categories in the reviewed index are:
- Leafy: 55 entries
- Stalky: 49 entries
- Sweet: 47 entries
- Flower: 43 entries
- Fruit: 38 entries
- Summer: 30 entries
These larger groups are especially useful when an event or NPC asks for a broad plant type. The smaller categories can be more difficult to complete because they contain fewer entries and may include seasonal, limited, or unusual crops.
Examples from the plant-type lists
Apple
The Apple category includes Apple, Evo Apple, Green Apple, Maple Apple, Pineapple, Poison Apple, and Sugar Apple. The inclusion of Pineapple and Sugar Apple shows why category names should be treated as game tags rather than strict botanical classifications.

Why plant types matter
Plant-type tags are most useful when the game asks you to grow, harvest, collect, or submit a particular kind of crop. A request may come from an event, NPC, pet objective, collection task, or another feature that checks the crop’s tag rather than its everyday name.
Overlapping tags can help you complete these objectives efficiently. For example, Pineapple appears in the Fruit, Prickly, Stalky, Summer, Sweet, and Tropical groupings. A single crop may therefore be relevant to several different category-based goals, provided it is currently obtainable and the objective accepts that exact crop.
Other useful overlap examples include crops that appear in both the Vegetable and Flower categories, or in both Summer and Fruit. The category label alone does not tell you whether the crop is available in the seed shop, comes from an event, or is restricted to a limited pool.

How to use the list for an event or NPC request
- Identify the exact requested type. “Fruit,” “Sweet,” “Summer,” and “Tropical” are separate tags even when many of their crops overlap.
- Open the matching category list. Use the category page or a current crop database to find candidate crops.
- Check availability before spending resources. A crop may be obtainable, limited, event-only, or retained in a database for collection purposes even though it cannot currently be acquired.
- Choose the easiest valid crop. Prefer a crop you already own or can obtain reliably rather than an expensive or event-exclusive option.
- Confirm the objective’s wording. Some requests may require planting, harvesting, submitting, or owning the crop. Those actions are not necessarily interchangeable.
- Recheck after an update. New events can add categories or crops, and older crops can move between obtainable and limited pools.
Are all 502 entries currently obtainable?
No. The 502 figure describes the assignments shown by the plant-type index, not a live inventory of crops that every player can obtain today. A separate crop catalog reviewed for this guide distinguishes obtainable entries from limited entries and also includes event pools such as Easter 2026, Bizzy Bee 2026, and Campfire Update content.

For a current objective, use the plant-type list to identify possible matches, then check a crop-by-crop database for availability, seed price, rarity, harvest mode, event status, and other details. Those facts can change independently of the category name.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why different websites show 401, 463, or 502 plants
These numbers should not be treated as interchangeable:
- 502: the reviewed plant-type index’s total category assignments across 26 overlapping categories.
- 463: a separate catalog labeled “All 463 Crops,” using its own crop-record rules.
- 401: another database’s total plant pages; that same catalog separately reports obtainable and limited entries.
The most likely reasons for the difference are whether a source counts category memberships or unique crop records, how it handles event and limited variants, and how complete its database is at the time of publication. No single official canonical total was established by the sources reviewed for this guide.
For that reason, the safest answer is: Grow a Garden currently has 26 indexed plant types, with 502 tagged entries in the reviewed category index. That is a category-assignment count, not a permanent total of unique plants in the game.

Are these official biological classifications?
No. The labels are useful in-game groupings inferred from category names and their listed memberships. They should not be read as formal botanical definitions. A crop can be tagged as Flower, Fruit, Stalky, or Sweet because of its design, theme, event, or game mechanics rather than because it fits a real-world scientific classification.
The category and crop lists come from independent fan databases. Roblox’s official game page establishes Grow a Garden’s identity and its basic farming loop—buying seeds, planting, waiting for growth, harvesting, selling crops for Sheckles, and improving results with upgrades, pets, weather, and mutations—but it does not establish a permanent official plant-type index in the research reviewed here.
Collection and merchandise for Grow a Garden fans
If you are collecting the game’s crops and characters outside Roblox, licensed physical products are a separate purchase from in-game seeds and cannot be assumed to unlock a particular plant type. A Grow a Garden plush may be a suitable gift or display item for players and collectors; documented products include PhatMojo licensed plush products in different sizes, with Roblox digital-item codes included according to the retailer listings reviewed. Check the current listing for size, stock, regional availability, and the exact code terms before buying.
Recommended Free Tools
A Grow a Garden mini bundle is another topic-specific option for a collector who prefers a physical playset. The documented bundle includes physical crops, a pet, a planting plot, and a Roblox DLC code. The code should not be advertised as granting a particular plant type unless the current product listing explicitly identifies that reward.
