Here’s the character concept, setting connection, and play style each one suggests, based on the publisher’s overview—not a ranking of their power.
What the book adds
The eight options appear under Chapter 1, Character Options, in the Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn contents. Wizards of the Coast’s overview describes their themes and selected signature features; it is not a substitute for the full subclass rules, so exact mechanics and feature wording should be checked in the book.
The overview presents these subclasses as distinct character fantasies: moonlit fey tradition, divine scholarship, knightly leadership, elemental power, frozen-wild survival, service to the Dead Three, spellfire, and sword-and-spell wizardry. The descriptions below explain those concepts without claiming that one option is stronger or better balanced than another.
Bard: College of the Moon
Rooted in the Moonshae Isles’ druidic traditions and fey songs, the College of the Moon is for a bard whose performance draws on moonlight and nature. The official subclass overview emphasizes battlefield repositioning and stronger healing, along with a Moonbeam feature that can harm enemies while restoring nearby allies. Its advertised role blends support with magical offense.
Cleric: Knowledge Domain
Knowledge Domain suits a cleric devoted to discovery, learning, and the preservation or creation of knowledge. The overview associates it with gods including Oghma, Gond, and Deneir, and describes scholarly and tool expertise, insight and foresight magic, telepathy, resistance to certain Intelligence effects, and divine foreknowledge. It points toward a character who supports the party through information and anticipation as well as divine magic.

Fighter: Banneret
The Banneret is a knightly leader associated with Cormyr’s Purple Dragons and the Silver Marches. Its described features connect martial presence to diplomacy and languages, helping allies recover through Second Wind, and rallying companions to move or attack. It is the most overtly team-leading concept among the fighter options described in the overview.
Paladin: Oath of the Noble Genies
This oath draws on the elemental nobility of dao, djinn, efreet, and marids, with Calimshan as a prominent setting connection. The overview highlights elemental smites, an unarmored feature, elemental resistance for nearby allies, and retaliatory elemental effects. The concept combines elemental offense with protection for companions; the book supplies the actual rules for how those features work.
Ranger: Winter Walker
Associated with Icewind Dale, the Winter Walker is a cold-weather survivalist who pursues prey through harsh conditions. Its overview describes attacks that can cut through cold resistance, resilience while hunting a target, support for allies, a freezing counterattack, and a later snowy, partly incorporeal form. The theme is a persistent hunter who brings the dangers of the frozen wilderness into combat.

Rogue: Scion of the Three
The Scion of the Three is tied to the Dead Three: Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul. The overview describes teleporting to a recently wounded foe, a patron-based resistance and magical gift, fear effects, and attacks empowered by the trio’s dark influence. It suggests a rogue who turns pursuit and intimidation into expressions of a grim divine connection.
Sorcerer: Spellfire Sorcery
Spellfire Sorcery makes a sorcerer’s power a manifestation of the Weave itself. The overview describes radiant or fire damage, protective flames, healing potential, and the ability to absorb magic from spells thwarted by Counterspell. At higher levels, the sorcerer can take on a flying spellfire form. Its concept brings offense and protection together through volatile, visibly magical power.
Rank #3
- Fizban's Treasury of Dragons is a comprehensive guide to the dragons of the worlds of D&D.
- It introduces the gem dragons—a family of five dragon kinds—as well as a variety of other Dragons and dragon-related monsters, character options, and inspirations.
- Hardcover
Wizard: Bladesinger
Bladesinger combines swordplay and spellcraft, with Myth Drannor as its setting association. The overview highlights speed and poise during Bladesong, using elegant weapons as spell conduits, Extra Attack, defensive use of spell slots, and pairing powerful spells with a decisive strike. It is for a wizard whose combat style moves between weapon attacks and magic rather than relying on spellcasting alone.

Playtest drafts are not the final book
The official January 28, 2025 Unearthed Arcana video description identified the material as experimental draft content and said, “They aren’t officially part of the game.” It names draft versions of Knowledge Domain, Purple Dragon Knight, and Bladesinger as revised options, alongside draft versions of College of the Moon, Oath of the Noble Genies, Winter Walker, Scion of the Three, and Spellfire Sorcery. The published book’s contents use Banneret as the fighter subclass name. A playtest draft is useful context, but it should not be treated as proof that a feature’s final wording or function remained unchanged.
