There are 46 Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio: 39 standard Archetypes across three progression tiers and seven Royal Archetypes. To unlock them, progress the associated character’s Follower Bond, master the required earlier Archetypes, and spend MAG through More’s study system. The MAG figures below are guide-reported planning estimates; check the in-game study screen for the current cost and requirements before grinding.
How Archetype unlocks work
Archetypes are the game’s class-like combat system: they provide abilities and let you customize how party members fight. Atlus describes Archetype powers as part of a turn-based combat system blended with real-time action (Atlus).
Most advanced Archetypes require both a Follower Bond rank and ranks in one or more earlier Archetypes. MAG is used to study Archetypes. Costs can vary as Bond progression reduces study prices, so treat the amounts in this checklist as references rather than guaranteed prices. The in-game study screen is the authority for your character’s current requirements and cost. The list below follows the detailed unlock requirements reported by Push Square (Push Square); some guide costs and requirements differ.
Origin Archetypes
These are the starting tier. The first eleven are unlocked by gaining the named character as a Follower; the final three also require mastery in earlier Archetypes.

How to use this checklist efficiently
- Unlock the relevant Follower. The Origin Archetypes tied to each character become available after that character joins your Follower network.
- Check More’s study screen. Review the exact Bond and rank conditions shown for the Archetype you want, then note the displayed MAG price.
- Plan cross-lineage prerequisites. For requirements such as Samurai’s General Rank 10 or Dragoon’s Magic Knight Rank 10, build those ranks alongside the main lineage rather than discovering the detour at the end.
- Recheck costs after Bond progression. Bond milestones can reduce study costs, so the listed guide amount may not match the current price.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
